Name: Gavrin Renard

Age: 27

Race: Human

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 160lbs

Personality: Gavrin generally likes the sound of his own voice; he is always chatting with people and playfully making fun of his friends. Some people find his antics charming; more taciturn people are often annoyed. Gavrin’s outward persona conceals a darker and more thoughtful inner life. He is fueled by a desire to fix the world and to make sure that others do not suffer as he did, but he is also afraid to let other people know how much he cares. Gavrin’s life is defined by his attempt to balance the angrier, brooding part of himself with the joy and delight he takes in the simple pleasures of the world.

Gavrin can be a bit of a show off, and he delights in impressing people with his performance art. At the same time, he thinks that songs and stories can be a way of communicating deeper truths, even if all the facts within them are not technically accurate. When someone works past his wisecracking persona and becomes a true friend, Gavrin is very loyal and will protect them like family. In the pursuit of protecting those he cares about or advancing his own agenda, he is not above lying or manipulating people to get what he needs. He justifies this by staying within limits, he delights in tricking people but would feel guilty if his tricks actually led to a lot of harm towards an innocent.

History: Gavrin grew up in a traveling band of performers, his mother was a dancer and his father was an actor and a player of the mandolin. One day, a nobleman watched the bands performance and took an interest in Gavrin’s mother. He came to desire her for his own, and when Gavrin’s father protested, the nobleman had him murdered. Gavrin’s mother was kept on as the nobleman’s mistress and as a result, Gavrin was treated well and given an education.

Gavrin hated the man who had killed his father and taken his mother, but he took well to his education, as he found that he was an exceptional study. In fact, many of his tutors were blown away by his ability for retention. Gavrin quietly took up his father’s pursuits of acting and music, trying to keep something of his father alive. A few years ago, Gavrin’s mother passed away of sickness, and the nobleman lost interest in providing for her son. Gavrin was also tired of taking charity from the man who murdered his father, so he took off with a bit of money and his instrument to see if he could use his brain to make something of himself in the world.

Appearance: Gavrin has sharp angular features; he is tall and thin, lightly muscular. He has black hair which is shoulder length but neatly cut and styled, and piercing blue eyes which generally have a twinkle of mischief about them. He is generally impeccably dressed, usually in a long purple frock coat and a waistcoat with an elaborate design. He sometimes likes to wear an ascot as well. He usually carries his mandolin on his back and his rapier at his side.

Skills:

Acting: Gavrin grew up in a performance troupe and has learned the art of taking on different roles. He is good at fooling people and thinking on his feet when making things up. He can generally make people trust him and believe in what he is trying to tell them. His childhood has prepared in charming people and being likable.

Mandolin: Fairly proficient at playing the instrument, and singing along to the melody.

Dancing: Gavrin knows a few dances which his mother taught him, although most of them are a little womanly for a grown man to perform. His dancing skills do allow him to move about with grace and surefootedness.

Costuming: As a child, Gavrin helped prepare costume for the acting troupe. He continued to practice these skills as he grew older. As a result, he knows how to apply makeup, as well as how to sew and tailor various types of clothes.

Swordfighting: Gavrin is skilled with his rapier and is able to defend himself. He is not a great warrior in terms of strength or pure skill, but his cunning and trickery often allow him to get the upper hand on foes that are more focused on fighting.

Abilities:

Inspiring Emotion: When Gavrin plays the mandolin and sings along, he has a psychic ability to shift people’s emotions. An angry song can make people angrier, while a pleasant song might make people trust him. As of now, Gavrin’s song can only affect a few targets at a time and can only inspire some general emotions, but as he gets better he may be able to convince more people of more specific thoughts.

The Blade Dance: Gavrin’s mother has taught him a special magical dance performed while wielding a sword. While Gavrin is performing this fast paced dance, he is able to move and strike with his sword with much faster agility; specifically at about twice his normal speed. The dance also causes Gavrin to appear as a blur or a double image, increasing the likelihood that his opponent will miss him. As of now, Gavrin finds it difficult to perform the dance in dark or tight spaces. He can maintain the dance until he tires, and he gets tired at the normal rate he would if he was putting on a dance performance. He can only perform it once before needing a long rest before doing it again.

Minor Illusions: Gavrin can psychically generate minor illusions in another person’s mind, such as dagger racing towards them, a handful of coins, or a sound like a distant scream or someone calling a name. The illusions Gavrin can create are small and quick, and do not necessarily fool everyone.

Can you define how much faster the sword dance makes him? Is/are there any limits to how long he can dance? If it's about two times the speed and for however long normal stamina would take for him to tire, then that's fine.

Can you also add in your rapier is iron?

Otherwise you're fine, but don't forget your illusions should follow that description and be 'small'.
