Name: Bartholomew Survayor
Nickname: Art
Age: 18
Race: Human
Height: 5'10
Weight:
Occupation: Cartographer, Explorer, Gentleman.
Personality: Art is a man interested in everything, because of this, nothing really keeps his interest for long before he is onto the next thing, The only thing that he does do consistently is create maps, though it is more of a habit than anything else, he does it often without thinking, he will just sit down and work it all out. He often spaces out and doesn't pay attention to what others really say. He does however assume that whoever he talks to is as up to speed as him in whatever subject he chooses to switch to out of the blue.
Skills:
Eidetic Memory: Simply born with a great mind, Art is able to recall information with great detail even if only seeing it for a brief time.
Jack of All: With a combination of his eidetic memory and wealth and freedom growing up, Art has learned how to use most forms of tools though would only ever be called average at best in any of them, the only exception is cartography where he is slightly above average as it's the only one he has done consistently.
Abilities:
Luck of the Gods: Art is just naturally lucky, if he needed to head into the heart of an evil forest filled with monsters, he would encounter nothing but frolicking deer and fluffy bunnies. If fighting was unavoidable, he would encounter a hapless hero who just so happens to have sworn revenge against them, or he would stumble across their leader and become fast friends. If there was a storm that capsized a ship he will have just taken a nap in the lifeboat and only just be waking up as it sailed into its destination. Bad things just don’t happen to him. This has no effect in combat.

Appearance: Art is a very average looking human, he is skinny and weak, height average, big kind eyes and short, neat hair both brown, he is very plain, has a weak chin and nothing stands out much. He has a slightly weathered look, naturally pale skin slightly tanned and slightly burned in places.

He is always heavily laden with various equipment, outfits changing to suit the setting he intends on venturing into, a huge impossibly oversized backpack and several other containers strapped onto various areas of his body.

He also wears a set of glasses that have been converted to hard wearing goggles so that he never loses them though always keeps a spare set in his bag just in case.

Equipment/Tools:
Grand Explorers Backpack: Passed down to him by his grandfather, it is a huge rucksack that is enchanted to be near weightless no matter its contents, there are several stones attached to the inside that have the ability for minor levitation, this only works on things contained within the bag however. Arts disposition towards organizing the bag however is just to throw everything inside stuff it down and hope for the best.
Simple Tools: Carrying with him at all times, Art has cheap and basic tools to perform many basic tasks when the need arises.
Survival Gear: Compass, Cooking utensils, Rope, Bedroll, Torches, everything an explorer needs to survive out in the wilderness often replenished at town before every great adventure.
Scroll Case: His most valued possession, sealed against water, magic and probably even lava, though he is not willing to ever test this. This case contains his grandfather's maps as well as his own and a few miscellaneous documents.
Utility Belt: as well as the tools to add to them, ink, quills, paints and brushes.
Clothing: He has a set for every type of environment, usually camouflaging with it to a basic extent.

Born into a well off family, Art has always had a love for learning, wanting to know as much as he could about the world, a passion likely coming from his grandfather who had spent many of his days off exploring, gathering fame and fortune. Many a night Art would sit with his grandfather and listen to his stories, read his journals, go over the books and maps that had been accumulated over the years and even created by his ancestors. Art studied from a young age and quickly developed a lot of technical skills and a fundamental understanding of many tools. He has always been rather self sufficient, doing things on his own once he got an idea into his head but he did idolise his grandfather and want to follow in his footsteps thankfully, being the second born to his brother Asmodeus, several years his elder, little was expected of him allowing him such freedom.

With the passing of his grandfather in his early teens, everything was passed onto Art in his will, this collection included something that he had never been shown before, an unfinished map covered in notes and details far more in depth than anything currently available and a showing of landmasses he had never even heard of. His grandfather had often mentioned places he could never find on any other map, about how he wishes he was still out there exploring, but he had received word of his own brother's passing and without an heir, everything would fall to him… so he had retired, settled down, still traveled the known world but was always a lot safer with his travel now.

Art wanted to finish his grandfather’s work. He took the map and an accompanying journal and set off to make his own way in the world starting locally with areas nearby that were otherwise undiscovered with plans to branch out until he was able to explore across the sea to places unknown.

Art no longer had a permanent home, he would wander from place to place but often found himself welcomed wherever he would go, he had a sort of charm about him, the fact he knew a little something about everything meant that there was always something to talk about. His first goal was to make it official, and found a guild, one meant for explorers like himself.

Hey there, Tobias here. I'll be handling your approval.

Two things: as is, Eiditic Memory is not an ability. It is a skill. We don't quantify what characters are able to remember or know. We only ask that you be reasonable in determining those things, based on legitimate RP and backstory.

Secondly, for "Luck of the Gods," this is too vague and frankly, it seems overpowered. How do you envision this working in a combat thread? In a thread where you're prompted to be challenged by a powerful enemy?

Skills:
Skills consist of knowledge based actions your character can take. This is best thought of as having the knowledge on something, but not necessarily the ability to do it. Common example include Swordsmanship, Herbology, Archery, Hunting, Cooking and Singing.

Abilities:
Abilities have a direct affect actions a character (including yours). This encompasses things like magic and body related actions (like speed and strength). Common Abilities include Elemental Magic, Speed, Strength and Summoning.

Under those definitions, since it is not a learned skill, it is just something he is born with, it is like a passive ability, not only can he recall things easily he can do it with great precision, even if only seeing it for a short time, this is beyond the average capabilities of most people but if you insist I will move it somewhere else.

As for luck of the gods, if I was going to quantify it, it would be that he has luck x3, like some people are able to amplify speed and strength and what not, his is luck. It is not something he could use in a combat situation, maybe avoid attacks by sheer fluke but i see it more as a way for him to avoid or get away from combat, he is not a fighter, he has no combat skills.

You don't need to have an ability for that. Your character can have an astounding memory. You're free to choose something else, though you are not required.

There's no real way to equate "luck" in a setting like Althanas without using it as an excuse to PG. Choosing to avoid combat or write non-violent threads is a personal choice. You could alternatively give him a form of intuition that helps him to avoid conflict (perception/precognition) when it does arise, and that would be acceptable.

So... basically... I should just not have any abilities? I don't want him to be anything special, i just thought it was an amusing flavourful way to explain shenanigans that I intend.

If you want to go ahead and get approved with no abilities, I can do that.

You do, however, have the option to choose others.

I have added that the ability of luck of the gods has no effect in combat, so no matter what i can not use it against another person... it is simply for Art vs the World, is that acceptable?

And while i do not need to put the memory down as a skill, I do still want to, even if it is a weak ability that i do not need to include, for flavour I would like to.

I can accept the "luck" thing as a story piece.

For the sake of calculating abilities, the memory will be counted as a skill and not against your total. It will still be on your sheet and part of your character. If that is acceptable to you, I will approve this immediately.

that is fine by me, I have put it in that catagory.
