Elf

Name: Gwaindir Ygrainne
Nickname (s): Gwaine
Age: 124
Race: (Undead) High Elf
Height: 5'10
Weight: 156lbs
Occupation: Scholar?
Personality:
Gwaine is winter and ice, temper and rage. He likes knowing, understanding, unburying secrets, the sharp thrill of burying secrets, and the quiet exhilaration that comes from always having an extra card up his sleeves. In the past, he had thought himself the master of all things buried in his mind, and now he finds himself mastered by many.

History:
Gwaine was born to a cook and an innkeeper, and one half of a pair of twins born to a couple who ran a successful inn in the city of Anebrilith.

As a child, Gwaine was quieter and more studious than most children his age, and had buried himself in books and stories, learning and lore. His sister had to drag him by the cuff of his shirt to get him out of the house at times.

While not wealthy, their parents earned enough to send the pair off for good education. The pair learned to read, to scribe, to sing, and to wield a blade. Gwaine had always been the scholar and the mage between the pair of siblings, while his sister had been the more physical of the two. Gwaine had a stubborn streak and an unquenchable thirst to know, and he had always found it exhilarating to test a new spell or theory. The terrible magics in the histories and old lores fascinated him.

After his sister left home to join the soldier ranks, Gwaine took leave of his family as well. He spent time with each of the schools of the Istien University, where he sharpened his mind and left his mark, but none of the schools’ teachings particularly interested him. When the Istien University could no longer hold his attention, Gwaine went on a journey through the forests of Raiaera and the mountains of Alerar, across the ocean to Corone, and then back again to Raiaera, to the great libraries of Anebrilith, where he researched the history of Tap.

When war came to Raiaera’s doorsteps, Gwaine had became fascinated by the idea the Forgotten Ones. Instead of picking up a blade like many of his old friends, he found himself flirting with the darkness. Unfortunately, the darkness flirted back, and the darkness was merciless. Gwaine soon found himself dead, still conscious, and magically bound to the service of Xem’zund’s Corpse Horde, where he served as a researcher and an occasional strategist. He survived the war with most of himself intact, and had been plotting his own release (and researching if revival is possible) ever since.

Appearance:
Gwaine is a gentle. intelligent-looking man, with lively eyes and an eternal smile. Swirls and swatches of tattoos, runes, and other markings cover much of his torso, and a small band of it stretches across one cheek. He dresses well, typically in the fashion of a minor lordling, and keeps his crop of white hair short.

Undead Status:
Gwaine is one of the few undead who managed to retain their consciousness, their memories, their clarity of thought, and their sense of self. This makes him a rarity. However, he does not know if he will one day deteriorate into one of the mindless, thoughtless, zombified masses.

Skills:
Scholar - He is an accomplished scholar and an excellent researcher.
Chessmaster - He enjoys a good game of wit, and may have an addiction to complication.
Strong Will - Gwaine’s sense of self is extremely strong. Very little can make him doubt or forget himself.
Intermediate Staff-Wielding - He knows how to whack people with large (and long) sticks.

Abilities:
Spectral Projection - The link between Gwaine’s physical body and his spirit is fragile at best, and he finds that he can abandon his body, and wander about as a spirit.

Effects last for one round in a battle. As a spirit, Gwaine can be seen and heard by other combatants, but cannot otherwise interact with (i.e., touch, or harm) other combatants.
Effects may last between three to six days in a quest, and the length of time may be be enhanced with magic. Extended amount of time spent as a spirit may result in Gwaine being unable to return to his physical body.
