Personality: James is equally at home in both a posh inn that caters to the opulent and affluent or in a dank dark cave using a piece of his own shirt as a torch and a mossy rock for a pillow. He can be seen as self centered or selfish but that is inaccurate the proper term is Machiavellian.
Appearance: James is a tall and fairly stocky human with glossy raven black hair and dark eyes oily eyes. His clothing is immaculate and borders on the opulent. He wears a fine pair of hessian boots, wool jerkins of a light gray color, he wears a silk long sleeved shirt with a dark blue vest and tops everything off with a charcoal gray coat that reaches down to his knees.
History: James was born to a fisherman father and mother and for the first third or so of his life he was happy. He had a good family and was relatively comfortable in his life. Things change though and not always for the better. Once he became of age he was then sent to become an apprentice….
Let’s make a very long story short his first several jobs and apprenticeships flopped for reasons that were unfair to him ranging from nepotism to just blatant greed. His relationships with women were just as horrid and followed a pattern of let’s go out one time; let’s be the kind of friends where you act as a safety net for me after every horrible guy that has treated me like crap but we’re never going to have sex, and finally you’re such an ass hole for calling me on how horrible I’ve been to you don’t speak to me ever again.
This series of repeating events first made James angry, than hateful and finally bordering on the nihilistic but balanced out to a focused rage against most sapient species. After the initial pain filled mind crushing change to his mental stability James began seeing everything as a means to his own end.
He joined a fencing academy to learn how to fight during this time he devoted his entire time to the complete study of fencing. He practiced for several hours a day, joined tournaments to pay his way and to get a real taste for fighting his accepted duels from others he didn’t care rather if it was a fencing blade VS a fencing blade or if it was a battle axe he just wanted to feel real combat.
Once he graduated with honors from the fencing academy he shifted his focus of professional study from fencing to investigation and put forth the same burning focus to that particular field of study while at night he continued his practice of fencing joining private clubs and accepting the occasional duel.
After all of his studies were finished James hid all records he could hide of his education, his family and his life and left his home city. He now does what he needs to for his own ends.
Skills:
Fencing: Not a brutish fighter that uses pure strength and over powering blows to defeat his opponents. Instead James uses a back and forth type of fighting where he neither uses a dedicated offensive stance or defensive stance; using an economy of motion to keep from becoming fatigued during a prolonged fight.
Brawling: There is not always a sword handy and so James must improvise using anything from his fists to a chair to defend himself. This is more of a jack of all trades combat style rather than any focused ability.
Investigation/ Research: James is capable of finding facts about persons, places and things in order to learn how they are involved in the bigger picture. (as these two skills have quite a bit of over lap I’m just going to combine them into one)

Poison use: James can apply poison to his weaponry and to other things without poisoning himself.
Added strength: While James may look soft he is actually twice as strong as an average human.
Speed: James can move at twice the speed of an average human.
