Valintra Ilphiira Hlandar
(The Black Envoy, the Herald of Emerald, of the House of The Seers of Black Hearts)
History
Valintra was raised by House Hlandar – known for creating powerful psychics. Oracles and seers, magicians who used their gift to mold the fabric of history, at first it seemed that the girl did not possess the gift of her foremothers. She was trained in diplomacy and ettiquite, still expected to become a House matron one day. She learned some combat skills from family in the Kyorl. A child known for her imagination, she bloomed into a lady with the same imagination. Soon her aunts and mothers noticed that the tales she told of people were less flights of childhood fancy, and something else. It didn’t take long to find that Valintra did indeed have a gift – the gift of seeing the muddled dead – souls trapped within this world but without power to manifest to others.
An aunt took certain interest in another story Val had told over and over since childhood – that of a man that came to talk to her when she was alone. He called himself Aesphestos, and whispered to her about the dead she saw. The girl took a liking to everything that reminded her of this man, the dark, the monstrous, the lowly and crawling. While most just took it as an eccentricity of personality, her aunt keenly watched. Surely, the name of a Forgotten One was no coincidence…
As she bloomed into an adult, so her duties became fulfilled. She inherited her place as a matron of the family. Her talents found work in law – ferreting out the true last wishes of the deceased to settle disputes. That is, until Aesphestos began to whisper to her again, telling her that the dead truly wished to rise again, and the smallest of his gifts were placed at her feet.
Appearance
Grey skin, short silver hair, and dressed sharply in a white blouse, soft dark leather pants tucked into leather boots. Her leather armor is tooled with leafy filigree painted in a deep forest green. The rest of the set stained a deep almost-black brown. The breastplate is studded with iron rivets. Her helm is shaped leather in the form of a wolf’s face, over iron plate.
Weapons
Trial and Error – a pair of iron daggers.
Armor
Iron-reinforced Leather set of armor – Iron-studded breastplate, iron and leather helm, leather gauntlets, and leather greaves.
Skills
Dagger proficiency – the care and use of daggers in close combat – Intermediate
Dagger throwing – attacking with daggers by throwing them into foes – Novice (accuracy with non-throwing daggers is 25%, with throwing daggers 50%)
Wilderness survival – finding edibles, creating shelter, and navigating in the open – Intermediate
Diplomacy – knowledge of etiquette customs – Expert
Abilities
Insecticide – Once per thread – Val calls upon invertebrates in a 50 yard radius to assist her. The call lasts for 3 minutes. She cannot ask them to do anything completely out of character (for instance, she cannot command moths to bite people, but she could command centipedes to do so). If she is gagged or silenced, success rate for this spell drops to 10%. A failure allows (1) retry.
Aesphestos’ Fire – Three times per thread – Val can create a throw-able fireball roughly the size of an orange, smelling of brimstone and hot enough to cause shallow, cosmetic burns (the type you may receive from sparks from a hotter fire falling on you) and igniting very flammable materials.
Voices and Faces – Three spirits per thread – Val can hear and see the spirits of the dead, specifically spirits too weak to manifest as spectres. They cannot hear or perceive her, so she cannot command them and they cannot affect the material plane. Unlimited duration, but if she is no longer within a ten foot radius of the spirit, their voices/forms fade away.
