Name: Orion Halichek

Race: Human

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Height: 5'11"

Weight: 145 lbs.

Hair Color: Golden Brown

Eye Color: Dark Brown

Appearance: Orion wears only the lightest clothing. The fine, thin cloth allows him optimal movement and does not hinder his speed, or cause any unwanted sound while he is moving. Orion wears all brown clothes which make him less visible and able to blend in. He wears thin brown pants and a brown, hooded sweatshirt with the sleeves cut off. he also has a pair of brown, fingerless gloves.

Weapon: Orion wields only one weapon, a double-edged, steel katana, which he carries in a sheath, strapped across his back. The blade is 3 ft. in length; the handle 8 inches long.

Skills: Weapon Specialization - Orion has acquired skills with short swords and katana. He is above average with his katana and practices daily.

Sprint - Orion can increase his max speed by 25% for 15 seconds, sprinting at speeds of up to 18 miles an hour. He can only use this ability up to twice per day.

Personality: Orion tends to be quite assertive. He is very intellectual, and can hold his own against even the brightest of scholars. Most often, he tries to negotiate his way out of sticky situations rather than engage in petty squabbles if he can help it. Due to his small size, he is often looked upon as weak, but he has an explosive and fierce fighting instinct, and is relentless in battle. His speed combined with his quick reflexes make him an impressive fighter. He is very competitive, and never one to back down from a fight.

History: "Orion! Get over here an' give yer Uncle a hand!" A slim, seventeen year-old boy stumbled over to his uncle; an aging, gray old man who was struggling to lift a bundle of chopped logs onto a shelf.

"Uncle! I told you I'd get that!" Orion pushed the logs up onto the shelf, and slid them back toward the wall. The old man held his hand to his lower back, cringing. The young man rested his hand on the withering man's shoulder. "Uncle, you can't keep doing this. Sooner or later you are going to get seriously injured, and I'm not gonna be there to help you." Orion looked into his uncle's eyes. He knew it was very hard for his uncle to accept that he was going to have to slow down.

"I know...it's just...it's not fair for you to have to do all the work around here, an' me just sittin' around here doin' nothing..." The old man's melancholy tone depressed Orion, and he decided to get out of the house for a little while.

"Uncle, I'm gonna go out for a while. I'll be back in an hour or two." Orion's uncle nodded his approval to his nephew, and Orion took his leave.

Orion had been living with his Uncle, Nathan for as long as he could remember. His mother had died giving birth to Orion, and she left him with almost nothing. When Orion's father had found out that he had impregnated Orion's mother, he left their town and never returned. No one knew why he left so suddenly, but Orion's mother was then left to care for herself and her child-to-be all by herself.

Orion's mother went to live with her brother Nathan once she was too far into her pregnancy to work any more. Nathan took care of Orion's mother until her death, the day of Orion's birth. Nathan Halichek raised Orion from that day on, caring for him as if he was his own son.

Orion strolled casually around at dusk through the streets of the town which were devoid of any man, woman or child. Orion had been living in that small town since the day of his birth with his dear uncle Nathan. He loved his uncle more than anyone else in the world, and he would do anything for him. He only hoped that he would one day be able to make money and give his uncle everything that he had always wanted. Orion's uncle always talked of one day becoming rich and living like a king. He had sacrificed so much in taking in his sister, and then caring for her son. He could have been a wealthy man, but he gave up his future to give Orion a better life.

Orion had in hand a training sword which he had carved for himself years before. He practiced with it every day. He was fascinated with swordplay. He loved to act out his own epic battles with evil enemies: corrupt dictators, evil murderers, and even disgusting monsters. He swung his sword around for a few minutes, but he didn't seem in the mood to practice that night. He felt uneasy but he didn't know why. Orion picked up a rock and tossed it into a small creek. He had wandered out of the town to the edge of the outer limits. "I better turn around now. Uncle Nathan will be wondering where I am now, and I'm starting to get hungry anyway." Orion picked up another rock and tossed it in the creek. Then he turned back and headed toward his uncle's house.

When Orion arrived, he called out to his uncle, "Uncle Nathan, do you have an appetite? I was going to get something from the cellar, and I wondered whether you wanted anything?" Orion walked into his uncle's room. He was lying on his bed. "Uncle, isn't it a bit early for sleep? Un...uncle...?" Orion grabbed his uncle's shirt and shook him slightly to wake him. The man didn't move. Orion shook him again, this time quite hard, with both hands. "Uncle!" Orion raised his voice in anger, and surprise. He shook his uncle's body now, violently. "Uncle!! UNCLE NATHAN!!!!" Orion fell to the floor beside his uncle's bed and wept. He wept for hours.

The next day, Orion told the other people of the town what had happened. They buried Nathan Halichek that day. Orion stayed at his uncle's grave half the day. At three hours passed noon, Orion decided to leave that town. He took the very little money that he and his uncle had saved up, a sack full of food enough for a week, and his training sword. He left that town the day after his uncle's death, vowing to make a new, better life for himself. He would live out his uncle's dream, and make Nathan Halichek proud.

So often, I am tempted to make a post giving the definition of the word proficient.

Change that to above average, and you're good!
