So, who does everyone support then?

We don't have a lot of NFL on across the pond but this is the big one.

I'll be throwing my lot in with the Broncos. Hopefully someone with far better NFL insight can provide me with some insider knowledge as to whether or not this is a good choice.

I'm not terribly interested in the game, but I'll probably have it on in the background for my show in the morning.

I guess I'm rooting for Carolina. Eastern Kansas is very anti-Broncos.

(Also, one of my radio buddies is from Denver, and last time they choked he had the biggest meltdown on Facebook. I'm looking forward to another one tomorrow morning.)

I was born in North Carolina, so if I have to pick between the teams that are doing the sports, I'll go with the Panthers.

I'm a -huge- football fan. My Patriots lost to the Broncos last week, but I feel extremely strongly that the Broncos are going to get their dicks kicked in by Carolina. Denver won against the Pats because they earned home field advantage, which gave their Defensive line a HUGE edge that led to pressure on Brady all day long. At a neutral site, Carolina will have the luxury of a snap count, neutralizing the jump-start that Denver deployed last week in the ambient noise of mile-high stadium. Carolina also has a much more balanced team than New England, with great offensive tackles, and a better running game.

On the other side of the ball, Denver's quarterback (Peyton Manning) is in the "David Beckham with the Galaxy" stage of his career. The Carolina defense is excellent.

Panthers by a billion.

(watches as Denver rolls)

You sound like the man to talk to.

If you were to put $100 on the Superbowl winner, who would it be?

Don't we have more important things to discuss?

Will the English players respond as well to Eddie Jones as the Japanese?
How good was the Wales comeback against Ireland today?
As promising as they looked last year, will Scotland ever manage to do well?

Being from Colorado, go Broncos! But I don't really care either way. I am just hoping for a good game, and not a blow out.

After the first half, I must say I am very surprised at how bad the Panthers are doing at holding onto the ball so far! They're much better than this. I expect a better second half! Go panthers!

I'm supporting the Panthers out of love for Coach Beam.

But I won't be too upset if the Broncos win. I really do like Manning.

Not the hijack this thread, but no, they won't. Scotland doesn't have the speed necessary, and they seem to choke when the pressure is on. It was fun to watch Scotland v England tho in the Six Nations.

Yes, I am American. And yes, I support Rugby as well as round-ball football.

As for the Super Bowl, Go Panthers. Fozzy Whtittaker, the Panthers backup running back graduated from my high school. How can I not root for them???

You, sir, are a better person than I am. I've never understood American football, if I'm honest, although I'm a big fan of traditional (soccer) football, rugby, baseball, and cricket.

In any case congratulations to the Broncos and their supporters, and commiserations to the Panthers. Who doesn't enjoy a good underdog story?

Who do you support mate? I know K-Zu-Ziro is an Everton fan, and me and Gnarl are United fans.

That was a shock! I couldn't believe how badly Newton played, and how good the Denver defense was. Manning did nothing at all, but didn't have to when the defense caused 2 touchdowns!

My dad, who is far more of an NFL fan than me, called Newton's performance something I can't repeat on a public forum (something about having the first touch of Jimmy Savile). I'm not quite sure who he was rooting for in the end.

Still, from a neutral point of view it was interesting to see the underdogs win. Defense heavy as it was.

Good lord that game was a mess. I saw more shit sportmanship that game than I have ever. Both sides deserve some fines or something when theres almost a fight on the field first quarter.

Yay! The stallions scored more home runs than the cheetahs! Did you see that hole in one in the first trimester? Man, that goalie was on fire! Stupid ref should have red carded that one guy. Good sportsball though. Yay Clydesdales!

There was a point in the game where Newton had the ball stripped from him, and the ball tumbled before him. Deep in his own zone, down 1 score, it was a HUGE point in the game. Rather than dive in to get the ball, he stepped back, away from the action.

It was a memorable, despicable moment. Newton is a chickenshit fraud, and that's the nicest thing I can say about him.

I've told Gnarly a time or two, I am, for all intents and purposes, a Tottenham Hotspurs fan. On this side of the pond, though, I am an avid (and rabid) Houston Dynamo (MLS) fan.

Leicester City are fun to root for this year though.

The QB should never dive into something like that for the ball. If he gets injured (in the hypothetical where the Panthers didn't have train run on them), it would have screwed up all kinds of his mobility, or taken him out of the game.

Would you want Tom Brady's perfect face or godlike arm damaged in a scuffle?

I only pay attention to the post-season games, because football (American, but also real football) is incredibly boring most of the time without people getting extraordinarily emotional over the games.

Or any normal game between The Patriots and The Giants. Several of my friends are New York fans, and I love to watch the tears and whimpered reminiscing about the 2012 Superbowl.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG

If it's a midseason interception, I'm fine with the QB getting out of the way to keep himself from getting hurt.

IN THE FOURTH QUARTER OF THE SUPERBOWL, DOWN ONE SCORE, what are you saving yourself for? Get your ass in there and fight for the ball!

Brady is a perfect example of this - he definitely scoots out of the way in the regular season and on non-critical plays, but also fights for the ball when needed.

Here is an example of him fumbling the snap, and getting in to fight for the ball. (http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap2000000240183/Tom-Brady-fumbles-on-the-Bills-1-yard-line) It was a regular season game, and he lost the ball, but he didn't scoot away.

Brady also recovered a fumble last year in the Super Bowl, where Michael Bennett stripped and tackled him. Brady fought out of the grasp of Bennett to get the ball back.

Here is Tom Brady leading the Pats to the biggest 4th Quarter Comeback in Super Bowl History last year (http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-super-bowl/0ap3000000467514/Super-Bowl-XLIX-Tom-Brady-highlights) Just in case you forgot what good football looked like.

Cam Newton's number 6 in the top Ten leaders in rushing yards this season, the only QB to be there. Tom Brady's at number 30. I like Brady's gusto too, it tends to make the game more enjoyable, but if you're comparing how both QBs operate, Cam is way more varied in how he can score, and thus much more susceptible to even minor injury.

I'm not saying it was the right call in hindsight, but at the moment he had to decide to dive for it at a risk, or keep his options open to score later in the game. And while it was the fourth quarter, there was still plenty of time to turn that game around - if the rest of his team could do a damn to stop him from being sacked.

My favorite part was when one team scored points, and then the other team didn't score as many points.

This philosophy should be applied to any sporting event final of any serious nature. At that point, if you are hungry enough, you put everything on the line.

Different example I know but Manchester United defender Vidic was defending balls with his head on the ground. This was whilst other players were sliding in, studs up. He just didn't give a fuck. To him, clearing the ball was more important than getting a studded boot in the face.

If you are in a final of anything, you give 100% or you go home.

Storm Veritas
02-09-16, 05:35 AM
Of course, agree 100%. The notion that Cam should have been concerned with preserving his health is completely absurd. At that point, losing the ball put the nail in the coffin for his season. It was literally the most important play of the year, and he essentially opted to "wait til next year" on it.
