Wraith
11-12-06, 09:17 PM
Name: Malachi
-Alias: Wraith
-Drow Name: Kunatiir
Race: Wraith
Age: Forgotten
Occupation: Assassin, Spy, Agent of Alerar.
Pretense: "It was a sight to behold. A specter with all the grace of a person. An odd sight to say the least.
He wasn't like any ghost, at least not like a ghost in the stories I've heard. He had a humanity about him, a certain mortal quality I can't quite name. This specter, Malachi as he called himself, moved just as normally as any of the crowd at night. He's not very odd, not as odd as you might think. I've seen many of the dark and silent type, so it's not unusual to see a man covered head to toe in black garb sitting in the back of a poorly lit tavern. I suppose, however, that even the weariest soul removes their mask eventually, that may have set him apart. The wraith wasn't bulky or tall, but of medium size and build. However it was hard to focus on his frame when he spoke. His voice was like an echo, subtle but strong. Like the song of a siren it seemed to lament something, kept hidden in all those dark robes. Poor soul." - Paul Quinn, Coronian spice merchant, having seen the wraith while visiting El'inssring.
Disposition: "The body of a wraith. The spirit of a poet."
Putting aside the drab outward appearance, Malachi is actually an affectionate soul. Good-humored and engaging by nature, people find conversations with him engrossing. He has a way with words that boggles and captivates the attention of listeners, although Malachi finds these situations rare.
The wraith has a darker side, a result of festering hatred boiling beneath the surface. Kept hidden from the common people is Malachi's fierce loyalty to his master Schynius, fueled by his rage for Raiaera and the elves that damned him.
Equipment:
-Two black iron gauntlets.
-(Black) cloth, long-sleeved tunic.
-(Black) cloth breeches, sleek and ending at the ankle.
-(Black) cloth gloves, kept under the gauntlets.
-(Black) leather boots that cover half the shin.
-(Black) cloth hood/mask, obscuring all of his facing and leaving only two eye holes, which yield no vision inside.
-(Black) wide, cloth scarf, wrapped around his neck to secure the hood.
-Several parchments of paper.
-Well worn quill.
-Small vial of ink.
Attributes: As a wraith, but not truly undead, Malachi has several attributes.
-No effect from poisons of the body.
-No need for food, water, or sleep *although he does need "rest''*
-Twice the strength of the average human.
-He cannot die in the mortal sense. His corporal form however, can be destroyed. It may take anywhere from several hours to several days to recollect himself into the swirling vortex that is his form. He finds himself near armor/clothing he wore just before death. Malachi must climb into it quickly, as it takes heavy concentration to stay physical without coverings. Should he take too much physical/magical/psychic damage in battle, he will dissipate and need to recollect himself. When he finally regains himself, there is roughly an hour where Malachi is too woozy to do anything beyond sitting.
Weaknesses: As a wraith, and as a former elf, Malachi has several weaknesses both physically and mentally.
-Should mythril cut through his cloth/armor and into his swirling vortex of a body, the wraith will combust into flames. The rare metal, an excellent conductor for magic, will easily dispatch Malachi, though he will recollect. The effects are also very explosive, so the aggressor may suffer burns should they stand too close.
-Magic of the spirit and mind have a much stronger effect on Malachi than a normal creature. He can easily be subdued into submission and even servitude by the most mundane manipulation spells for mind and spirit.
-Vanity was his sin, and the sight of mirrors fills him with rage. He tries to shun polished surfaces as much as he can, the sight of the dark figure staring back at him is usually too much to bare.
-In this line of thought, Malachi is also resentful of extreme beauty and vanity.
-The specter is not buoyant. In deep water, he will sink like a stone underneath, forced to walk the murky depths slowly.
Skills:
-Psychokinesis: The ability to push, pull, and use kinetic energy purely by thought. As of now Malachi's abilities are very limited here. He can compress force around a being only for a moment, and the force itself is lacking at best. The specter can push or pull a creature back, but depending on size and weight, this could be trying. As it is, if he overexerts himself, the spirit will dissipate as if he has taken too much damage. At this time, it takes little for him to overexert himself.
-Combat: With no real memory of his abilities before he was a wraith, Malachi had to be retrained in the combative arts. Having only his gauntlets, the specter brawls hand to hand with an enemy, beating them into submission with his armored hand. He is by no means an expert, but his skill allows him to hold out long enough to seem halfway decent.
The Past:
"There is nothing so agonizing to the fine skin of vanity as the application of a rough truth." - Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton
Stories tell of a young elven lord who breathed in luxury like air. His life in Eluriand was nothing but hedonistic delights funded by a wealthy name. Rumors spread that he was the fairest creature to grace Althanas' soil, and this led to his downfall. Vanity was his sin, a sin others could not get use to. Nobles are often the target of envy and resentment from their peers and Malachi was no different.
Annoyed with his narcissism, his rivals plotted a devilish scheme. "A youthful prank," they called it. Each marched towards Malachi's home with the thought to bewitch him with a simple curse of blemishes. What happened during and afterwards is unknown. Whether the rivals truly meant an innocent prank is contested as a horrible curse befell Malachi.
Present: For years his fate was unknown until he appeared near the Aleran Officer Schynius. Few knew the terrible past the dark figure held, and most figured him nothing but a necromancer's trick, a simple mindless pet held by Schynius' will. None know what Malachi will be used for when he grows in strength.
