My name was Harrison and I used to be just like you. A man of great reputation.. Well not quite. Every man wish's for greatness do they not? I was blacksmith in the my past my grand father taught me howto forge anything. Granted I never could infuse a blade with magic or alchemize armor. That was stuff I only believed around the forge after hours. I knew Magic was in the world but I did not really believe it in full. The family business was always booming with customers, in fact one such customer was my own wife and how i met her. She was beautiful. When she entered the shop I thought I was under the effects of some type of Siren. She was stunning in every way and a light to all around her. Her name was Lyna but I often called her Lilly. At first Lilly came seeking a gift for her father. A hunting knife specifically but after the gift was forged and delivered she visited the shop everyday just to say greet my family. I was young back then, Dont you judge me. It was bad enough I was being pressured to ask her hand in marriage by my grandfather. After a span of 3 years we quickly became best friends and madly in love. We never showed it publicly but you could see it in our eyes. I wish I had asked her hand in marriage sooner. With my position at the forge and Lillys position in the tavern we settled into a small cabin on the outskirts of our small city. At the time we crime was rising within our area but it never affected us enough to cause us to notice. Petty theft at the most. The Town guard could handle it no doubt, If only my assumptions could of been true. As crime unnaturally continued to rise Lilly and I both agreed it was time settle down more. Lilly wanted a daughter and I wanted a son. Haha! Those long strenuous nights. Our neighbors used to think we changed into some type of feral animal when they heard the sounds that same from our humble cabin. Skipping forward 9 months Lyna was most ecstatic to see the child she bore was... a girl. We named her Tes. Externally at the time I looked disappointed but internally I dont think I could of had anymore joy. I would gladly give my life for them both... And I did.
Caring for our daughter was challenging with our current decaying city. As soon as my Tes came into this world I changed as any father would. Protection was key and the arising crimes and rumors of crimes quickly found my ear. Opposite side of the city was in chaos. Citizens were going mad and insane. Murdering their neighbors with no regards. Truly that could be considered a dark time, But not dark enough.
According to the parchment I left behind I could remember this night for an eternity. There was a loud bang and sound distortion afterward. They're was little screaming, more so yelling filled the air. Sounds of command and combat. The sounds did not last long and by the time I grabbed my steel dagger the insanity was already outside my door. An aura of doom embraced the Cabin as I watch a horde of dazed looked citizens and neighbors surround us. Trying the best I can to grab Lyna and Tes from their sleep I shook them to bring them to my reality.
"Lyna! Wake up! We need to go now!" I cried to her with a mutter.
" Uh. Huh? What?! Harrison whats wrong?!" Lyna asked as she sat up cradling Tes in her arms. By this time Our daughter was wailing, which did not help at all. *BOOM* The front door fell over from a single blow and inside entered the horde of mindless people we once knew. They were not dead or undead but rather suppressed and more like a thrall in nature. At the time I knew and suspected nothing but when the mass of people stepped away to let a new figure enter I buckled with fear. I had never seen a creature of this sort ever! Tall, thin and had an odd shaped head with tentacles hanging from its face. Its glew in the dark in a eerie way and the way it pointed as us gave neither of us a comfy feeling. There were no words but I could a foreign voice disrupt my thoughts. A voice that simply said " Go." With that command I myself awaited nothing! I refused to let such a monster corrupt and have its way with my family!!! Gripping the dagger and lashed out cutting my mindless neighbors throats with haste. My actions freed them from the Creatures grasp on their life but it did little to save my own. With the wave of its hand I found myself lifted into the air and slammed into the rough wooden wall. I didn't understand it at all. How it happened or why but I did not care. The mindless walked forward toward my family once more and once I lashed out in desperation. Or at least i attempted to. With wide eyes I watched the faces I used to know grapple me to the ground and pin me their forcing me to look at my horrified family. The creature took my wife by the throat lifting her into the air, his eyes examining her body with a sinister intent. With the wave of his hand my body jerked and My eyes strained to stay open. The sounds of dreadful pain filled my mind fracturing it into oblivion. My Lilly and Tes being corrupted by gods know what while I am held on to observe with my senses. Tortured by the sounds that filled the air my left eardrum ruptured and my muscles seized up without my control. I was little more than a wurm at this point and the worse part was I could feel something inside my mind move about freely.
When I fully Awoke I had little recollection of what happened. A woman unclothed and torn into bits layed face down on the wooden floor with a blood smeared about the cabin. As I rose to stand I banged my head against the ceiling. Things were different. I felt different. I was different and I did not know how. I had a hunger that could not be fed. My hands bore claws and my skin was a dark pale purple. Exiting the Cabin my eyes squinted in the sun light and I raised my forearm to shield myself from it. I was disgusted by its...its authority to shine at me! HOW DARE IT! Looking down at the green grass and growled deeply and the new features on my face flailed about in rage like whips.
I dont know what happened to this small city but it deserved to be destryoed in this manner! Kicking scattered infant parts away from my being I inhaled deeply with confusion.
In my mind i asked my self so many questions.

Why am I hungry!?
Finally a brief moment of rage a robed creature emerged from behind a house with two thralls. I knew this creature. It was an Illithid, my lesser kin. Watching him take a knee his thoughts fell into my head exclaiming " I live to serve!"
