Personality: Sweet and naïve, Marina trusts easily and is willing to think the best of even the most hostile strangers. Her sheltered life has left her with a clear air of innocence and weakness which leaves many with the feeling of either the need to protect, or the need to take advantage of her. Despite her lack of luck in life, she has kept an optimistic attitude and large dreams of a ‘Happily Ever After.’ She has a passion for traveling, without the life experience to call herself well-traveled, and as a result holds a high importance in freedom for herself and for others. She believes in being the best person she can be in helping others, and believes others to follow that same way of living.
History: Living a very sheltered life, Marina grew up in a large family as the youngest of seven children. With three brothers and two sisters, she was always held to the standards of her sibling’s accomplishments. Her brothers all were trained and raised to succeed in the family’s prosperous jewelry crafting business and to navigate themselves in the city’s economy and politics, while her sisters excelled in the finer of ‘ladies’ skills, such as embroidery and sewing, cooking and managing house staff, talents in music, traversing the societal spheres while keeping up with latest trends and fashions, and most importantly, in seducing a husband of rich means and high societal standing. Marina, however, never found talent in anything her family would see as useful. Her mother often berated her for being ‘sub-par’ in her lessons, while having a “useless” skill in painting and reading.
Despite her mother’s lack of faith in her, one day without Marina’s knowledge, her hand in marriage was asked for by the eldest son of the owner of one of the mines close to the city, seemingly enraptured with her when he saw her in the market with her sisters. Elated, her parents accepted without consulting her. Having spent much of her time reading fairy tales of princes and true love, upon hearing the news Marina had imagined a handsome man close to her age, having seen the sadness in her eyes and wished to take her from her home into a life of love and leisure.
What she got instead was a man older than her father, balding, fat, and loud, who openly saw her as a prize. He leered at her and viewed her as walking womb to provide him with heirs since his late-wife had been unable. He also proved to be a horrible man, treating his workers as slaves and the common folk as dirt. And yet, despite her begging to end the wedding with her eldest sister’s support, her parents refused, knowing full well that once the groom found out about her infertility which would leave him with a ‘useless’ bride would greatly anger him, and potentially endanger her life. With nothing but a single bag of supplies and a small pouch full of money, Marina ran away on the eve of her wedding. Knowing nothing of the world outside, she ran from the city and paid a merchant to let her leave with him in his cart.
Her heart ached knowing she would never see her family again, but she kept herself going knowing that a bounty for her return would never happen, and she would simply be forgotten by her parents instead. Looking out at the road ahead, Marina looked forward to her new life of freedom exploring the world, not fully realizing how harsh the world could be.
Skills: Bartering, trained in navigating social situations to benefit herself, and has an above average talent in various arts such as singing, painting, and a small handful of instruments.

Calming presence- When interacting with her, people generally feel very calm and trusting with her. Her non-threatening presence makes it easy for her to defuse situations, and to get secrets out of people if she wanted to (which she usually doesn’t).
Business sense- Even if she looks easy to trick, when it comes to buying, selling, or setting up contracts, Marina is able to see a scam or an inflated price a mile away.
