Artemis returned to the trinket shop where he'd recently purchased his obsidian earring, noting that many of the wares had already changed from his last visit. Yet again his friend remained busy and quite frankly Artemis wasn't sure what his magical friend would have been able to concoct. Regardless, it seemed magic may not be the answer here anyway.
He kept his hands to himself this time, waiting for the shopkeep to return to the desk. He expected to see the familiar face, but you never know who you'll find behind the desk these days.
While he waited he let his gaze dance along the walls. The little shop was small but fascinating. Everything looked so elegantly crafted and intricate. Small notes beneath each little item explained their function for the shoppers. He kept his hands to himself this time, remembering the protective barriers around the items. Nothing looked to suit his needs, but he hoped that custom requests weren't out of the question.

Hawl sat in the little shop, drumming fingers against the wood. She wasn’t sure why she was here today. Most days the small girl helped run the big shop, with her Aunt Jess. Today though, when she woke up her Uncle had scooped her under an arm and mentioned they were going to get shaved ice. She had accept her fate in life, waving goodbye to her aunt from under his arm. She couldn’t wait to go!
Her uncle lied.
Or rather, had failed to mention she would need to run the shop for nearly the whole day while he worked on some sort of weird project in the back room. When the new customer came in,s he perked up immediately, entirely too excited to see someone!
“Hello!” She stood up on her chair, still not even as tall as the man. she was a slight thing. “Welcome to the shop! What’re you interested?!?"

Artemis noted the small girl, smiling despite himself. He hadn’t expected this but still hoped she could help all the same. He’d met enough surprising people to never assume. “I’m thinking to craft a weapon, as I don’t expect something like this readily exists for purchase. But you seem like you may have some . . . ideas that could help me given your profession. So I thought I’d run the concept design by you.” Artemis reached into a pocket on his leather armor and pulled out a small cylinder of blue roughly two inches long and half an inch wide. The girl whistled, looking upon the lightly glowing item with intrigue.
“This is magicyte. I came across it during a recent . . . debacle I suppose you could say. There were many like this being used as ammunition for long-range weapons, converting the concentrated energy into a burst of magical power.” Artemis placed the item down on the counter, allowing the shopkeeper to touch it if he wanted. “This one is stable, as it is at full capacity. I found myself researching all I could on the substance once I found myself safely away. Turns out there are various colors and crystals, though we don’t know much. Perhaps there’s a form that could be used as a power source for my concept.”
“And what is this concept exactly? I’m curious what idea you might have that involves magicyte. It’d likely be expensive. Dangerous too.” She seemed to perk up with curiosity. Artemis guessed she hadn’t expected anything interesting to happen that day.
Artemis sighed, running a hand through his short black hair. “That’s the thing. During that same debacle I found myself having to fight enemies the likes of which I never imagined. Armored humans are one thing. I can typically find a way through and reach the flesh. But when there is no flesh, I’m at a huge disadvantage. If my insight is right, I expect I’ll find myself in that situation again.” Artemis’ bright blue eyes stared upon the magicyte, their glow and color almost identical. For a moment he found himself in another place, far away, where he had first encountered the behemoth of metal.
“So I have an idea. And it’s just an idea. I was thinking of creating a weapon that is able to cut metal. I’ve spent weeks reading and learned about something called plasma. I’m not sure if magicyte is the answer, but it may guide the way. I also don’t know what the weapon’s base material would be made of. In my mind I imagine an adamant blade that can channel the energy stored within into a sort of plasma coating that can be activated and deactivated through scientific means, without having to rely on a magical power source.”
Standing there, Artemis felt ridiculous. The idea seemed plausible, but he was no scientist and had absolutely no idea how to execute such a concept. He didn’t know if it would be achievable. To make an adamant blade that could potentially be superheated to create an external plasma coating would theoretically create a weapon that could slice through metals. But to do so without being a purely magical feat seemed beyond the world’s ability.
“From what I’ve learned of magicyte, though it can be powered by magical energy, it converts it into raw energy. That means any anti-magic device won’t affect the weapon once the magicyte is in place and doing its job. Again, I don’t know if this idea will work. If there’s a color we can utilize that’s stable. Where to get it. Or if there’s a better plan. But I need this to be non-magical when active.”

The girl stood there stone faced.
"Lemme get my uncle. He'll be able to help - he once worked as an engineer for Alerar!"
A moment or two past before a strong armed man with hands the size of anvils sluggishly waded through the door. He had been listening in from the stockroom and was intriguide by this new customer and his interesting theories. In a day where the best thing that had happened to him was the sale of a pound of Dehlar, this certaintly made for more interesting conversation - and business.
"Now, my lad, you're an interesting one," He started, wheezing between words. The Magicyte resonated in front of him. "There are a whole number of issues here. Firstly, the adamant blade. That's a material we don't often have around here. If you've got some, then we'll see what we can do. As for the rest? Well...let me know about the adamantine first. We might have to do a little experimentation first, but let me tell you now..." The shopkeeper put his hands down on the counter.
"This is going to cost you. I hope you've got some coin, my boy."
