One day, Jango was cartwheeling through the market place when he spotted a marionette in the window of a shop. It felt like the marionette had called out to him. However, Jango had no money. His family had barely enough food to get by. But, Jango was determined to get that marionette.
Jango started to perform in the streets in exchange for money. He juggled bowling pins, did cartwheels, he even pied himself in the face. It took Jango a month to acquire the money needed to get the marionette.
Jango was so happy that he rushed home to show his parents. However, his parents where furious with Jango.
“You should have used your money to get food for the family,” his father said with a scowl.
“How can you be so selfish?” his mother asked as she turned away and blew her big nose into her apron.
Jango had tears in his eyes as he ran from his home never to return. That night, as he got ready for bed Jango thought he heard a voice call his name.
“Jango,” The voice said quietly.
“Who is there?” Jango asked with curiosity.
“My name is Tranity,” the kind voice said, “Why does your heart weep Jango?”
“My parents hate me,” Jango said sadly. “and the should, I’m so selfish.”
“You aren’t selfish,” Tranity said, a feeling of calm covered Jango at those words. “You saved me from that shop. A selfish person wouldn’t do that.”
Jango was confused. “What do you mean I saved you?” Jango asked with a frown.
Tranity chuckled, “I am the Marionette you bought from the shop.” Jango turned towards the marionette which just sat there with no one pulling the strings. “I’ve been stuck there for a few months. Always watching as everyone walked by. Always hoping to experience what it was like outside that shop. Then I saw you and knew you would be the one to take me away from that shop. So I called out to you. But you left me for a month. I watched you perform every day. And I waited for the day that you would buy me. And I was happy when you did.” A sense of glee fell upon Jango as he listened to the marionette.
“I’m happy too. Tranity.” With that, Jango fell asleep with Tranity in his arms. They have been together ever since.
