Lark
11-06-16, 05:36 PM
Name: Lark Liddicott
Age: 20
Race: Half Elf (High Elf/Human)
Hair Color: Iris-Violet
Eye Color: Metallic Gold
Height: 6 feet 2 inches
Weight: 190 lbs.
Occupation (Optional): Former Court Jester
Personality (Optional): Lark is an unflappable, impossible to shame, class clown. He is constantly trying to entertain the people around him and has a natural attraction to the spotlight. His demeanor is only broken when faced with intimidating challenges where he takes on a pragmatic cowardice. The Half Elf has a sense of nobility and justice instilled in him from a young age, but often feels a pull to dark thoughts that frequently haunt him. This is accompanied by an inescapable feeling of dread that the people around him only stay with him because they find him entertaining and that nobody likes him for who he is. Lark makes great lengths to keep this aspect of himself hidden, of course.
Appearance: Lark's Iris-Violet hair stands in a messy, tangled bed head covering his forehead and nearly obscuring his reflective, metallic gold eyes. His skin is pale and lightly freckled, with a beauty mark resting above his left eye and the right side of his upper lip. His ears are long and pointed, the same as his nose. Lark wears Elvish 'Sad clown' makeup including red streaks of face paint moving vertically from his eyes across his cheeks emulating teardrops, a dab of red facepaint across the centre of his lips, and a small dab across his pointed chin on his square jaw. A white neck ruff gives way to a red and black checkered motley shirt trimmed with black fringes. Overtop Lark wears, in order, a thigh length, deep blue, large collared, wool cardigan; a waist length, white wool jumper; all covered with a red leather jacket rolled up to the bell-decorated elbows. Grey wool breeches reach to just above his knee before giving way to dark grey wool socks and finally a pair of curled, bell tipped jester's shoes. He is often seen carrying a set of large blue bagpipes with black and gold pipes, and a black and gold sword in a brown leather sheath.
History: Lark had been his Lord's Court Jester since he was 14 years old and had only just recently mastered the art of juggling. Throughout the years, the court appreciated his satires, insights, thinly veiled insults to dishonorably acting nobles, and his general willingness to make a fool out of himself in exchange for acceptance. A trait picked up growing up a Half-Elf in a High Elven court. But, as many places in the High Elf domains, the Court of his Lord began to struggle and things began to fall into disrepair. Lark tried to make suggestions, tried to guide the court along, but he was only a Jester and his opinion didn't matter.
So he wasn't surprised, though hurt nonetheless, when the time came when his Lord released Lark from his service. It had happened, Lark wasn't funny enough to keep around anymore. He wasn't worth the bed and the bread. Lark smiled his Jester's smiled, bowed his final bow to his collected former fan base and left, vowing to never let it happen again.
Skills:
* Bardic Casting
* Swordsmanship
* Trained Diplomat and Calligrapher
* Tomfoolery/Clowning (juggling, etc.)
* Actor, Singer, Dancer, Comedian, Portraitist (All wrapped into the profession "Jester")
* Noble Family Genealogist
* Trained in Manners of Court Intrigue and High Society
Abilities:
* Bardic Control of Animals: Through his voice and instruments alone, Lark is able to command nearby animals to do his bidding for as long as he is able to perform his song, up to five uses a thread. Lark can currently only coerce animals into doing minor tricks, and is unable to make them do anything that requires more dexterity or grace than the animal naturally has. He is only capable of controlling "mindless" animals, and untrained animals hold no love for him after the song ends.
* Bardic Object Manipulation: Lark can use his music to make objects levitate or otherwise move as directed, up to five times per thread. This involves things such as being able to knock a chair over at a distance or having a broom float alongside the caster. Lark is unable to manipulate complex mechanisms, and loses control of the object once it's out of hearing range of his music.
* Limited Bardic Mind Control: Lark is capable of using the rhythm of his music to distract foes once per thread, up to a post at a time. Using subtle mental manipulation, Lark can force the weak-willed to dance and sing along with him, despite any previous show-business experience. Affected foes do not necessarily immediately begin dancing and singing uncontrollably, they move along appropriately to the song. Controlled foes will not ignore eminent danger for the sake of the dance number and are quickly snapped out of it upon fright or injury.
Equipment:
* Great Elvish Warpipes: A set of Elvish bagpipes with three large drones and one chanter with eight finger holes. The specially crafted pipes can be twisted to adjust the octave and pitch of the drone.
* Hurdy Gurdy: Lark's choice of stringed instrument for when he needs to use his lungs for singing and can't play his pipes. Lark's Hurdy Gurdy is of classic construction and made of dark redwood. It has multiple drone strings, similar in pitch to those available with his pipes.
* Jester's Motley: Lark still wears his shoes and shirt day to day, but also still owns his bell-tipped cap, motley pants,his makeup kit, and his marotte. The head of his marotte is crafted to look like Lark in full makeup and jester's attire.
Familiars (Optional): Lark has a trained fox that is the only animal that seems to follows him around whether or not he is singing.
