View Full Version : Oriseus Dargonis

Oriseus
11-19-06, 07:51 PM
Name: Oriseus ("Ori" for short) Dargonis
Age: 21
Race: Human (Scarabrian)
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Forest Green
Height: 5'11''
Weight: 162 lbs
Occupation: Ranger

Personality: Although it is in his nature to be polite to others, Oriseus sometimes has that attiude that simply asks others to leave him alone. He's not much of one for chatter, and in groups he finds himself being the odd ball out. Sometimes, he just chooses to not be co-operative, but for the most part he puts up with it, knowing that it will in turn accomplish whatever task he must complete. He thinks low of himself, only because he believes that there is always room for improvement, and his way of life is to simply strive for perfection. He's not really much of an energetic person, and rather than rushing into battle head-on, prefers to sneak about on the sidelines and use strategy to overcome his foes.

Appearance: Upon first sight, a commoner may mistake Oriseus for an elf, carrying young facial features, and acting like one himself. Oriseus prefers dark clothing, to benefit him when the time comes for a more stealthy approach. Underneath his rugged black cloak, he wears casual clothing for that of a second class citizen, comprised of simple loose black pants, and a white linen shirt underneath dark studded leather armor. Elegant black leather boots carry him around, and black guards adorn his wrists. When it comes to cold weather, Oriseus keeps himself warm by wearing another dark coat underneath his cloak and armor, and also wears mahogany leather gloves. His build indicates that he is a healthy young man, who seems fit and capable for just about anything.

History: Oriseus was born in the small town of Uthia, on the forest borders of western Scara Brae. His father, Ramir, was a scout who watched over the town, and was known throughout the area for his gift of a keen eye and great dexterity, while Oriseus' mother, Janine, worked around town as a healer, taking care of those who were less fortunate. Both mother and father wanted nothing more than to have their only son live the good life, and it seemed like the only way to do that was to focus on their careers and earn enough money to remain on the middle ground around society. In Ulthia, you were either poor, or rich. Poor people were shunned upon, and humiliated, forced to do meager labour by cutting down ships and harvesting lumber, while the rich got to do what they wanted to do, and lived prosperous lives.

When it came to where Oriseus wanted to go with his life, he could never really decide. Part of him wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become a warrior of the law, who defended the city from any who opposed them. Another part of him just wanted to stray aside, when he grew independant after he couldn't take much more of his parents focusing too much on their work to spend time with him. Oriseus made friends with the troublemakers in town, and sometimes even took part in committing crimes, sneaking off into the forests at night. During the day, he tried to connect with his father, and learned the tricks of the trade with weapons from his dad in his youth. At night, he fled into the outskirts of the village to practice on his own, and compete with the other minors in organized fighting tournaments with other young men like himself, striving for power to do what they wanted.

Soon enough, the young man had become one of the major contenders of the backyard league, showing up just about every night to take up any challenger in a duel. The rules were always just prohibited only to wooden makeshift swords, until one of the more arrogant rich boys brought his father's sword to show it off. Oriseus knew that he was going up against a decent fighter who could at least hold an actual blade pretty well, but he didn't expect it all to be over so fast. With only a wooden stick, he accepted his rival's challenge, and thus the fight began. It was after a couple of evasive manuevers that his the city watch had intruded, with his father being one of the watchmen. Caught by surprise, Oriseus fell victim to his first loss after maintaining a long winning streak, when he had taken a blow to the left leg by the sword.

After his wound was healed and well taken care of, his parents just couldn't decide what to do their son, who had turned out to go behind their backs to join the fun and games. An argument broke out between Oriseus and his parents, and in the end, he decided to leave. Much talk had to be discussed beforehand, followed by the last of the lessons he was going to get from his father. They still loved him enough to prepare him for the world he was to embark on. He was big enough to fit into his father's equipment, and was even given one of his first swords, a bow, and a quiver filled with arrows. Oriseus kept his word to his parents that he'd make sure to stay around the land of Scara Brae, unless a great job was offered to him. If he had plans on leaving the island, he ensured that he'd confront them first before going out into the world of Althanas.

Skills:

~Offensive Skills~

Quick Edge - This beginning signature manuever is in short, a rush of speed focused into a single strike (slash or thrust). The damage is slightly above the range of a normal attack on an enemy, and with how fast it comes, it proves a little difficult to block. The problem with this ability is that Oriseus hasn't honed it enough to be accurate with each strike, but most of the time he doesn't have to worry, since his opponent usually doesn't see it coming. This ability also hasn't been used enough to master its potential frequently, so it can only be used twice in a single thread.

~Defensive Skills~

Somersault - An evasive manuever that Oriseus has befriended for many reasons. With not much faith in the armor that he wears, he puts his trust in his agility, and chooses to dodge incoming blows completly. His dexterity and experience in fighting allows him to be able to concentrate on up to three opponents at the same time, and for one round, Somersault allows him to dodge both incoming strikes of all three simultaneously. This is a very beneficial skill, but with its great timing and and little mastery, Oriseus can only use this in a single thread once successfully.

~Magic Skills~

(Oriseus knows nothing of magic, yet. However, there is always that path open to those who are granted to power to harness it.)

~Passive Skills~

Swordplay - One of the bare neccessities required for any young warrior. Oriseus' swordsmanship skill would be categorized as average, due to the experience he has had with swords or swordlike weapons during his youth, and lessons taken from his father, giving him the as much potential of a squire who has just passed his basic training for knighthood. He had no skill using two handed swords, and has below average prowess with daggers, seeing as how he only ever really uses them when he uses stealth, and only ever aims to cause a fatal wound.

Marksmanship - Otherwise known as archery, this talent was brought up and honed throughout the childhood and youth years of Oriseus by his father, who chose to give his son some insight and training. His skill level with bows and arrows are deemed below average. As much as Oriseus prefers to wield a sword, he knows that for most cases, he's best left unseen and attacking his opponent from a distance.

Subtlety - This includes skill related to taking down an opponent using stealth and cunning. Honed through sneaking out of his house and about town to get to where he wanted to go after nightfall, his ability to adapt into the enviroment is rendered average. His skill at sneaking up on somebody and catching them off-guard with a melee weapon is below average, because he hasn't much experience with his dagger, but he does have moderate capability with using his bow and stealth skills to take down an opponent without being noticed.

Scout - This skill details all the basics of being a ranger. Scout allows Oriseus to track down a foe through the wilderness, make an approximate estimate as to what creatures intentions are based on their body language and how they act, and keen senses which could catch an opponent attempting to surprise him. The range for his keen eyes and ears only extends to a range increment of a 30 foot radius around Oriseus.

Equipment: Besides all of the living necessities that Oriseus carries (i.e. bedroll, bread, waterskin, etc.), there are a few vital things that he also carries, including...

- A steel longsword (lightweighted)
- A simple oak wood bow (seemingly crafted by the elves)
- A simple, iron dagger
- A dark, wickerbasket-make quiver (holds 20 arrows maximum)
- 20 arrows (oak stem, steel arrowhead)

Familiars: (To be inherited through future quests.)

Sexy avatar ^_~

Only one of your Passive Skills can be above average, the other two need to be below average. Or you can change it to have two average skills and one below average, the choice is yours.

Also, change Scout to have a 30 foot radius, please.
