Mayuri
01-31-17, 01:19 PM
Name: Shae Yoshida
Nickname/Alias: Mayuri, Mai
Age: 17
Race: Human
Height: 5’2”
Weight: 115 lbs
Occupation: Apprentice Ranger, Tracker, Guide
Personality:
“Though she be but little, she is fierce.”
-William Shakespeare, Midsummer’s Night’s Dream
Shae is a huge personality in a tiny little package. Shae is not only tenacious, but she is downright stubborn. There is simply no such thing as giving up as far as the girl is concerned. If she’s ever told no, or can’t do something, she will dig her way down and fight through it until she achieves what she wants. Shae is bold won’t back down or back off when she feels impassioned about something. She is the sort who is willing bend the rules when necessary, and is always willing to risk being rejected by others in order to do what she perceives is the correct choice on a matter. She is never afraid to follow her own path, and trailblaze a new one, when one cannot be found.
The young Corinthian is an introvert. Quiet and reserved, Shae is happiest while observing the world, rather than interacting as a part of it. She comes across as aloof and cold, which is quite the opposite of Shae’s personality. A warmhearted and kind individual, she exhibits an amiable personality, once she warms up to you. Believing that one catches more flies with honey than vinegar, Shae uses her charming personality to befriend those around her. She believes that making alliances with as many as she can as advantageous though she does not believe in abusing this privilege. If someone helps her, she will always return the favor. Her kind nature leads her to be very affectionate to those she has a close connection to. In general, she tends to be a nurturer and is always comforting and protecting those around her. Often, her own personal care is sacrificed for the care of others.
When it comes to personal values, above all else Mai finds honesty paramount to any relationship. She believes in telling it like it is, regardless if feeling may become hurt as she thinks the lie is more damaging in the end. She believes that by being openly honest, she is showing integrity and living an authentic life, which is of great importance to the young woman.
While Shae has much personal strength, she does tend to have a few weaknesses, namely her impatience. Above all else, Shae hates to wait. Even though playing the waiting game is part of tracking of seeking, the girl would rather move ahead and find a different way, than to dawdle. Even if she knows there is not a quick resolution to a situation, she will not hesitate to let things fly and jump into head first into the problem just to get moving again. While it doesn’t usually work out in her favor, she is the sort to kill first, and ask questions later.
History:
At the edge of the Concordia Forest just south of the Jagged Mountains and by the edge of Braybury River, 150 km from Underwood and the Ranger stronghold, lies Alryne. Alryne is home to the world’s greatest trackers and woodmen. Great majority of those serving in the Corinthian Ranger Corps came from Alryne. This is also home to one small young lady, Shae Yoshida, aka Mayuri.
Shae’s birth in her village was a special one. Her father was a hired hand from across the sea, a Akishman. He had come to the Alryne requiring a tracker for a bounty, and was assigned Shae’s mother. The pair had a tryst while on mission and the result of that affair was Shae. The pair continued to work together until they found out they were pregnant, and her father stayed within the village for a time during her early years. He died while bounty hunting, so Shae never got to know her father. Her mother, Marenoa, is a significant figurehead in Alryne. She is not only a community elder, but she also a priestess of Y’edda. She was brought into the village at a young age to help foster a new type of ranger, one with magical capabilities. Shae is one such variant, which is why she is so important to her community. It is hoped that one day, she will not only ascend to community elder, but that she will also produce many children, all of which can hopefully express a capacity for spell casting, as Shae can do.
The last seventeen years have been about training for Shae. Children in the village are taught woodland skills from an early age. They begin to learn to track by age two. Children are more adept to finding where something went and capturing it, than they have mastery over their own language and motor skills. By four, she was taught to ride a horse, learned to use a bow by age five, and by age seven, she had begun her core studies, primarily in herbology, first aid, and she began to hone her magic. Though she has magical capabilities, Shae’s spell casting is not strong, but there are some useful spells that she can cast which improve her abilities as a ranger.
Mayuri is not yet sure which direction she wants her life to go. If she follows the wishes of the community elders, she will join the fold and lead her community. Shae has different ideas. She loves the idea of becoming a famed member of the Ranger Corps, and she also yearns for the freedom and adventure being a tracker has to offer. On behest of Shae’s mother, the girl was given until her 21st birthday to comply with demands of her community, or else be shunned from her homeland, never to be allowed to return. With a heavy decision on her mind, Shae has set off into the world to explore it to see if there is anything out in the world worth more than what her home means. As with any ranger out on travel, she has adopted a pseudonym, and goes by the name of “Mayuri”, which Shae was told was the name of her father’s mother.
Appearance:
Mayuri is visually striking. Small framed, Mayuri is petite, but has a shapely slightly hourglass figure. She has long, wavy dark brown hair that falls to her lower back. She keeps pretty blue feathers tied into it and small braids. When she is on a mission, she keeps her hair braided and tied. Her face is round giving her a childlike visage; she has puffy pink cheeks and dark chocolate, slightly almond shaped eyes. Her lips are small and pale, with a thin upper lip and a fuller, pouty bottom lip. She has short hands and fingers which are weathered, from her training, and she has small feet. Her slight appearance makes those perceive her as doll-like though she is more hardy than delicate.
Skills:
Horseback Riding- From a young age, children of the village are taught to ride horses. Most children learn to ride before the successfully walk.
Tracking- As a hunter, the skills of prey detection are necessary for success, thus all hunters and guides of the village are proficient in tracking any sort of prey, animal or human.
Herbology- When it comes to knowing her flora, Shae, is quite adept. The necessity of learning about plants in depth is due to her use of them in her first aid skills. Shae knows what plants to use, how to prepare, and administer them for medicinal usage.
First Aid- Shae is adept to healing basic wounds using medicinal brews and concoctions she creates through her knowledge of herbology.
Cipher- Shae has learned how to code and decode messages
Ghostwalker- As a skilled ranger, Shae has learned to tread so that she does not leave behind tracks that are easily distinguishable by common means. she can only be tracked by another skilled tracker, by her scent, or through magical abilities.
Abilities:
As Shae grows as a ranger/tracker, so will her spell set. These are the abilities she can currently cast with success
Level One Spells
Rapid Fire- when cast, allows Shae to shoot off three arrows in a rapid succession. This can be cast once per thread and lasts for 2 posts
Eagle Eye- In Battle: improves Shae’s accuracy for 2 posts. Shae can pinpoint target specific locations and hit her mark, unless her shot is blocked or countered. Target must be within normal firing range which is 200 meters maximum. (Eagle eye only improves vision, it does not boost any other physical abilities other than to help Mayuri accurately take aim of her mark. Eagle Eye and Rapid Fire cannot currently be cast together. Each spell requires an effort of concentration from the caster, prior to use, and Shae is only capable of mastering one spell at a time)
Out of Battle: when cast, Shae can see over greater distances than normal. Her range goes from 3 km to 5 km (on flat ground. Range can extend further on higher ground depending on altitude)
Telephone (Animal Messenger)- charm one small animal into traveling to a specific location with a written message, usable once per thread.
Equipment/Weapons:
Composite Bow- comprised of Ulder wood, Faun horn, and sinew, Shae’s composite bow is standard issue for a ranger. Carved upon the bow are Ulder saplings and the visage of Y’edda.
Tanto Koshirae- A dagger that belonged to her father. This particular Tanto is a double edge steel blade. It is approximately nine inches in length. Its handle and sheath are made from Liviol, and have dragons carved into the wood of both handle and sheath. The dragons are a symbol of her father’s people.
