Name: Kalamu Eusimoto
Age: 264
Race: Phoenix
Hair Color: Varies
Eye Color: Varies
Height: Around 6' 3"
Weight: Around 190-200 lbs
Occupation: Informant
Personality: Very deductive, but not ruled by logic. He logically analyzes any situation extensively, but in the end his emotions play a the biggest role in how he acts. He loves to talk, but he only says as much as he means to. He enjoys debates as well, as long as they don't get long and drawn-out.
Appearance: Naturally, he's a large, black-and-crimson feathered bird, like an oversized eagle with a plume of feathers on his crown. Most of the time, though, he favors tall, dark-skinned, brown-haired human forms.
History: Born in Fallien in the southern Zaileya Mountains, Kalamu grew up with his people. Hidden amongst the craggy peaks, his family evaded the chaos of of the Kehlats' assassination of the Jya, the rise of Ji'ral's cult of the sun, and the treachery of Teiari'sel. Indeed, few Falliens even knew of their existence, except for the Mi'sheteri of the Nirrakal, who whispered of the magical birds that come down from the mountains. After the Jya's trial in the Nirrakal, however, when the hunts for followers of Mitra began, they could hide no more. As hunters began to comb the mountains for covens of Mitra worship, the phoenixes began to flee. Kalamu's parents sent him and his siblings far away, and they drifted long over the seas before they arrived in the other lands of men.
There, they took the forms of those around them and slipped in among the masses. Kalamu has lived thus for 120 years and has been many people, never forgetting the greatest talent of his kind: how to hide. He has learned to fade away into crowds and shadows, disappearing while still being present, and in doing so has learned many things. People who know when, where, and how to ask have found that there is little he does not know.
Skills: As a phoenix, Kalamu is a creature of fire, able to conjure well-sized bursts of flame. However, unlike some mages, these flames must originate in himself. He cannot cause another object to suddenly combust--although he can throw flames at it.
Also, phoenixes can use their pyromancy both as a means of immortality and shapeshifting. By reducing themselves to ashes, they are able to reform their bodies anew, in any way they wish. However, since their new form is forged from the ashes of the old, it is difficult to form a body of greater size than the previous. Kalamu could not reform as a forty-foot-tall dragon. Also, it is safest if Kalamu has seen a creature of the form he is taking before, as he has less chance of making a mistake and forming a body that cannot support life. Full resurrections (burning himself and reforming) take an hour. Lastly, he can only resurrect himself if his corpse is burned. If he were killed instantly and not given time to ignite himself, he'd stay dead, unless cremated.
Aside from innate abilities, Kalamu is a novice swordsman and a novice glassmaker (as a hobby).
Moderately-proficient pyromancy
Resurrection/shapeshifting
Novice swordplay
Novice glassmaking
Equipment: "Nurusima," a shard-glass shamshir given him by one of the Mi'sheteri. It possesses a minor enchantment, making it slightly stronger than iron and "conducive" to magic. This makes it both an excellent channeller of Kalamu's pyromancy and susceptible to hostile magic attacks. Also, a pair of steel vambraces.
NOTE TO ADMIN: I hope to use Kalamu as the basis for a powergroup. It would greatly expedite the workings of said powergroup if Kalamu had the following skill as an extension of his glassmaking: Creation of "phoenix eggs," pieces of glass imbued with certain knowledge, which transfer that knowledge to another creature on contact. Would this make him too skilled?
