Kefziel

I've tried to keep the ablities fair. Please let me know if anything needs changing.

Name: Kefziel Pheos Ouroboros
Age: 21 years old
Class: Mage
Race: Human
Alignment: Varies. Mostly evil but there are times where this shifts due to Kefziel’s instability.

Description:

Kefziel has short, cropped mars red hair and piercingly cold blue eyes that look as if they had been forged from the very ice of Salvar itself. His attire seems to be consistent with Fallien tribal dress, his upper shirt made of a beige rug like material and his lower attire made from a black robe. On each hand he wears a robed gauntlet made of cloth, bearing the mark of his family crest, of which he holds no real sentiment.

Weapon: Cruelty and Abyss

Cruelty: A straight, doubled edged dagger reaching a length of 25cms. Fashioned from steel, the grip seems to be stylised into an embossed eye. The hilt wrap is crafted from black tether.

Abyss: A single edged knife that isn’t as versatile as Cruelty but has a sharper cut and a length of 27cms. Fashioned from fine steel that has been folded for extra endurance. The gripshaft has been fashioned to appear as a pair of demon wings, whilst the pommel has a single topaz jewel encrusted in it.

Armour: Thin Steel Breastplate

A simple breastplate protecting the chest, placed underneath the upper attire and strapped to the skin via three black tethers connected round the back. Can stop weaker weapons and magic from penetrating the ribcage but not the stomach.

Transformation: Second Child (prerequisite of magic)

The “true” Kefziel. This transformation is the epicentre of Kefziel’s magical abilities, the power to wield magic. If he desires to use magic against a foe, Kefziel must first enter this form. The only physical difference undertaken by this form is a glowing aura of silver surrounding Kefziel during battle. Whilst the effects last the duration of time equal to one battle or three hours, Kefziel loses part of his remaining sanity and becomes wild.

Magic: (after Second Child)

Tainted Focus: Allows Kefziel to concentrate during Second Child. Usually the transformation hassles the small remaining aspects of his personality into disarray, but by magically enhancing his mental integrity Kefziel can overcome complete disorder and use his magic more effectively.

Bolt Lance: Kefziel can create a small spear of electrical energy to hurl at an opponent, briefly stunning them. Dissipates upon contact with any surface or object and does not penetrate.

Celestial Negate: Kefziel uses his magic to raise a small barrier the size of an arm mounted shield. The barrier is able to prevent damage from one physical or magical attack before shattering.

Personality:

Kefziel, as a young adult, is both egomaniacal and paranoid due to the circumstances of his earlier life. His brain severely affected before birth, he is mostly always found to be misanthropic, harbouring a deep resentment of life around him. Sometimes, especially during his Second Child transformation, this develops into a simple nihilistic approach where Kefziel truely believes nothing holds worth and everything is destined to be destroyed by his hand.

However, even as unbalanced as Kefziel is, there are occasions where vivid fragments of memories cause the young man exceptional levels of confusion, sometimes resulting in emotional displays that were not thought capable of the human. Again, this is unpredictable and sometimes does more to fuel his hatred than make him realise his mistakes.

Background:

With no known surviving blood family, and very little background to rely on, Kefziel Ouroboros and the circumstances surrounding him remain a constant mystery to all those who encounter him. But only one knows the truth…

Kefziel Ouroboros was the second child of a project that had given birth to a new breed of human, infused with the planets magic whilst growing inside the womb of a surrogate mother chosen at random. His true father, Professor Pheos, had made the project his life’s work after discovering a vital link between the anatomies of an unborn child exposed to certain levels of concentrated magic in the uterus and the potency of the child’s power after birth. Believing himself to be researching a good cause, telling his family that “mankind needed a power to keep itself alive”, Pheos hoped that his second child Kefziel would grow to be a mature and dependable guardian of mankind, using his research as a tool to carry out the means.

However, during the process in which certain types of magical power were to be infused into the structural cells of Kefziel in the womb, a problem arose where cells that controlled the personality aspects of the unborn child were inexplicably destroyed. The problem went unnoticed, and Pheos continued to oversee the pregnancy until the second child was brought to term.

During the first two years of the exercise, Pheos watched stunned as Kefziel’s magical powers spiked beyond anything he had ever seen. Sparks of electrical energy would randomly bolt past the scientist as he attempted to feed his son, random objects would set themselves alight through the concentration of energy Kefziel constantly kept within his maturing body as Pheos read books to him from his bedside. It was becoming frightening to watch. However, as pleased as he was with his work, Pheos started to observe the harsher aspects of his son as they developed in full. Temper tantrums would erupt from nowhere, causing eruptions of magical power to destroy anything within reach. Dark mood swings took the child from depressed to maniacally happy in an instant.

It would eventually prove too much for the scientist to handle.

Realising there was something horribly wrong with the child’s temperament, Pheos started to ponder the mistakes in his research, spending weeks in the basement of his secluded desert house in Fallien pouring through his notes and calculations. It was only when he had looked again through his diaries and notes during Kefziel’s incubation he saw his mistake. He had completely miscalculated the level of infused magic that could be handled by an unborn child safely. The resulting overload of power had destroyed certain aspects of personality before birth to create a void acting as an overspill for the excess magic.

Slowly, as the truth dawned on him, Pheos began to fear for the mental stability of his son, who at this time was only 3 years old. He had tried to use his research to create a gift for mankind, only, ironically, to hold the potential to burden it. As he battled his demons night after night, it finally stuck to his gut. Pheos had to destroy both the first and the second child, otherwise things would get quickly out of hand.

Deciding the second child, his son Kefziel, was to be the greatest threat, Pheos crept into the child’s room at midnight and prepared a powerful toxin to be smeared on the child’s lips. Just as the tip of the finger made contact with the toxin, Kefziel suddenly awoke, his senses alerting him to the danger to his life. Although only three years old his brain seemed to understand what his father was trying to do, and even as Pheos struggled with the awesome power at the child’s disposal, it proved to be a lost cause. A massive bolt of electricity flew through the heart of the professor and killed him instantly as Kefziel defended himself.

The result was a house wide inferno as a spark from the magical spell struck an oil lantern on the western wall, knocking over the brass basin and spilling its contents over the timber floor, which was then set alight. Kefziel was eventually rescued by passers by, and the first child was believed to have perished in the torturous flames of the fire. Kefziel thanked his rescuers by incinerating them with a plume of fire that erupted with the child’s temper.

Without a father, or any kind of restraint on his powers, Kefziel was left to freely roam Althanas.

Surviving on the intelligence his magical powers brought him naturally, Kefziel was able to find himself a place to live in the ruins of a desert settlement in Fallien close to where he was born. Only leaving the harsh ruins to feed or attack trade caravans of Corone or Alerar, he found solitude in living alone. As time went on, his personality took a turn for the worse, and the brutality of his attacks became more and more legendary. It wasn’t long before he earned himself the nickname “Mad Wolf”, a tribute to his personality conflicts and his ability to hunt others without a single shred of remorse. He soon went from attacking caravans to settlements, and even dared a midnight raid on Astaka as the uprisings of the Cult of Mitra occurred.

At this point, at 21 years of age, Kefziel cared not even for his own life. Brutally misanthropic, egotistical and nihilistic, he only wanted to destroy himself and all of Althanas with him, and engaged himself on a quest to recover an artefact known as the Dagger of Celest, an item of which he believed would grant him the power of gods. However, the information he gathered regarding the artefact was misleading, and would be his ultimate downfall.

As he traversed the damned ruins of Celest, the god of space and time, Kefziel eventually stumbled on the treasure in the grip of an iron statue. As he attempted to grab it from the grasp of the statue, the dagger’s power activated and began draining Kefziel of his natural strength. The gods did not wish for their power to fall upon a lunatic, and so the second child of Pheos would never grasp the power of Celest in his stained palms.

Kefziel, sapped of his power and damaged from the encounter, retreated to his ruined home to ponder his failure…

This profile is fine, except there is a detail I feel you left out. Could you explain how long the transformation takes. It can be almost imediate if you choose, but please specify.

Welcome to Althanas! This is a very well together put profile.

It was intended to be a matter of 5 seconds or so. If this is ok, I'll leave it at that.

Thanks.
