The time had come to change, again.
The small island nation of Scara Brae was too constricting, too confining. Osato felt just as comfortable there as he had in his homeland of Yerria, under the boot of the marines. Joining the Knights of Scara Brae had been no different than the marines of Yerria. Both were expecting, demanding, and allowed little freedom for their people. Osato was not like that, and he knew it.
So it came time to change again. Time to move from one home to another and seek out something else, something more profound. His hair had changed to a light brown with frosted-violet underlayering. It was something that happened to the soulless races, a physical change when stress is applied. Osato took it too with a grain of salt, as he seemed to be taking everything lately. He stretched a gloved hand and pushed it through the shorter hair too, wondering when it would all be over.
His identity was known, however, and he had to change. So he found himself in Corone, more specifically the world famous Bazaar. He had been garbed in the clothes of his former home for far too long, it was time to change into something more useful and less outstanding.
“Good day,” the young mercenary said as he pushed aside the door, the melodious little bell dancing as it was batted aside by the swinging door. Osato moved quickly towards the counter, not letting his eyes stray over all the weapons and armor that called for him from all sides. His pouch of gold was full, almost overflowing from the recent capture of the vampire Tarry Wheeler, or something like that. Whatever the beast’s name had been, it had netted the sell-sword an easy thousand gold. “I am in the market for a new set of clothes, something less conspicuous than the threads I have on. I’m also looking for a new sword, and I’ll give you this one in exchange.”
Osato pulled the wavering blackened-steel sword from his sling, placing the weapon on the counter. It was rarely used since he had left Yerria, given no chance to swing on another weapon or against armor. Luckily for the young mercenary, it looked as good as new.
“I would also, after exchanging my clothing and sword, like to look at a couple of shields. This first though… I’m looking for a pair of sturdy pants, perhaps vlince if you have it for a reasonable price. I’d also like a shirt made of the same material (white), and slightly padded for protection from armor I’ll be putting over it. I’ll need two belts with pouches, and two hooks that can be attached to them to hang my crossbows from. I’ll need the other to have an opening to put a sheath for a blade.”
Osato shifted uncomfortably. The price in his head was racking up and it was going to be quite costly. He just hoped that he’d not only have the money to cover it, but would be able to get a good job soon to get money for food.
“Finally, for my weapons and armor. I want to trade that sword in, as I said. It’s a high quality blackened-steel sword, forged from the island of Yerria. Rare, but by no means extraordinary. I’d like to get this one instead,” he said as he lifted an interesting looking long sword. It was a diamond shape, wide at the base of the blade and then narrowing to the side of a normal longsword. Steel, of course, with a handle of wrapped leather, the sword was also far from extraordinary.
“And for armor, these are also made of blackened steel,” Osato said as he placed the twin gaiters* and gauntlets onto the tabletop. “I’d like to get something a little more covering and helpful. I’ll pay the difference, of course… but I’d like to get a breastplate of steel, simple pauldrons to cover my neck, and banded plates to cover my arms. I don’t need gauntlets or gloves for it, but if they don’t cost too much I’d also like to get those…”
((Basically I’m exchanging my entire set of clothes for another set of clothes. I have pictures so that you can get a basic idea… but I’m not sure if those will help much.
