The Emissary of Dragon’s Dawn
“No quarter. No mercy. No regret. That is the way of the Dragon’s Dawn.”

Althanas, like many other worlds, is not unified in religion. Since the beginning of the first era, power groups have struggled to sow the seeds of their ideologies into the minds of the ignorant masses, to impose the commands of their divine leaders upon those who prove willing, and eradicating those who wish not to conform. These groups, apart from the venomous enmity they show towards the heathens of their time, have only one thing in common. They die, turn to dust, until no single chronicler feels fit to make mention of them. Their gods are forgotten. What was once their Truth is now a fairytale. And up in the heavens, the true Gods laugh at the folly that drives humans to create new pantheons for furthering their own goals. In arrogance, they watch their ants crawling over Raiaera, Corone, Fallien and other continents, desperately trying to achieve greatness in a lifespan that flashes by in less than a second. So weak. How mistaken they were.

There are many monstrosities living beyond the threshold of time and space. Some are primal sources of destruction; not evil entities, but personifications of the sheer chaos and impredictability that is nature. If unleashed, such forces would drown Althanas in flames. Others are passive, immortal and patient as stone – they would cause time to stand still if allowed to enter this world. Needless to say, the Gods try hard to keep these beings, who are their peers in power, restrained, confined to their own dimensions. Alas, as dicted before, the arrogance of the usurper would not even let these divine beings untouched. With time, their dedication to guarding the borders of Althanas’s reality diminished. Milennia over milennia, the boundaries between time and space faltered, were torn open by the power they were intended to contain. No entity was yet strong enough to breach the wall between them and Althanas, but it was still a calamity of epic proportions, as for the first time in a million ages, the primal powers of erstwhile met each other, and communicated.

It is fortunate that those with god-like power do not fancy sharing it. Had the primal entities decided to cooperate in overthrowing the gods, Althanas as we know it would not exist this day. Fortunately, their pride drove them to combat each other, and the roars of undying battle shook the foundations of heaven and earth, drawing the attention of both Althanians and Gods. Knowing that they could not face the combined force of the primordial warlords, the Althanian deities recruited five heroes, mortal in life yet immortal in name, to aid in the struggle against the otherworldly invaders. The antediluvian entities were driven back, until the five Althanians finally squared off against the greatest of the dreamfiends. Empowered by holy relics of unfathomable power, the chosen mortals proved able to defeat the monstrosities – as a reward, they were returned to Althanas to experience peaceful times for the remainder of their lives. But neither mortal nor God knew that each of the five primal forces, upon realising its imminent death, had planted a seed of its soul inside the spirit of the celestial heroes.

Generation after generation bore the soul shards, without ever noticing their presence. However, chaos would have it that the bloodlines of all five heroes eventually intermingled. In thousands of years, the quintet of soul shatters found their way into one person. A lumberjack, living on the outskirts of Etheria Port to day-in day-out provide the shipbuilders there with fresh lumber, would one morning wake up and realise that his mind was no longer his. As though the link between his consciousness and body had been severed, he could only pose as onlooker as his body silently obeyed the commands of the foreign presence. Not a moment passes wherein the unfortunate mortal does not fight for its soul, but against the powers of five god-like personas that refer to themselves as the Dragons, he seems to be fighting a losing battle.

Having received physical form once more, the five Outsiders inside the man have decided upon a temporary truce, collaborating to bring about the restoration of their power and a new chance to overthrow the Althanian pantheon, an event which they mark as the Dragon’s Dawn.

Overview

Name: Shadrian Shattersoul
Race: Possessed Human
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 172 lbs
Hair: Pumpkin
Eyes: Violet

Appearance

The rough features and musculature of a woodsman are not easily taken away from sight. Although dressed like a warpriest, Shadrian's form is bulky from years of physical strain. He wears blue and white robes, fastened around his torso with a multitude of leather belts. Slate, claw-like ornaments surround vicious pearls of glowing red that dot his apparel. A khaki cloak, including hood, is usually wrapped tightly around his shoulders, the worn cape fluttering down along the left half of his body, covering the scarred skin on Shadrian's left arm. To keep it in place and for protection, the unwilling prophet dons lightweight leather pauldrons, crimson-coloured with alabaster patterns. The left pauldron is reinforced with an iron replica of a dragon's claw. Shadrian's bright hair often finds it way out of the hood, laying comfortably around his neck to provide good looks along with a goatee and sideburns. He wears iron bracers around his lower arms - those, too, were crafted to resemble a draconic physicality.

Personality

Puppets tend not to have a distinct personality. At the moment, Shadrian's true, mortal soul completely severed from his body. The five spirits that now control his physical hull are oblivious to any kind of ethics, although they attempt to do nothing that drives greater powers to destroy Shadrian's body - it is their only anchor to Althanas, after all. This means that they will usually behave according to societal code and try to act as humanly as possible. Still, as soon as an opportunity presents itself to enhance the entities' power or wealth, the five Dragons can turn rather rabid within an instant.

Equipment

Draconic Staff
A simple staff of oakwood. The ornaments upon it were crafted by an Alerarian smith by request of the Outsiders in Shadrian. Although not making it any more suitable for battle, the ornaments were difficult to craft, and the smith charged an extra fee for expenses. He has not been heard of, since. The Draconic staff is unsuited for physical battle, but can serve to channel Shadrian's magic, although it cannot amplify any effects.

The Five Aspects of Dawn

Five different spirits and one hurt soul inhabiting a single body. Although the Outsider entities have agreed to form a conglomerate, working together towards a common end, they were forced to substantially weaken their powers to make sure Shadrian's body survived the sudden pervasion of divine creatures. It also meant they had to exchange their divine powers for more down-to-earth, arcane talents. All five entities can think at once, but only one can control Shadrian's body at any given time. This means that the skills of each Aspect, as these entities will be referred to after the merging, cannot be used interchangeably. To use powers from a different school of magic, Shadrian first has to change which Aspect is in control. Doing so is a mentally straining process, taking one post of complete vulnerability to complete, and only once per battle or once per two days (story time) in a quest.

{{ Notice: Skill level need not necessarily correspond to character level! }}

1. Chath, Aspect of Fire
Chath is agressive, and hates the passive approach his four companions have elected to excercise. He wants action, and he wants it now. He is usually the first to engage in battle, and for one who once bore the tremendous powers of fiery evocation, he is remarkably quick to adapt to his weaker situation.
Chath's Grasp [Level 0] - Allows Shadrian to move small amounts of flame telekinetically without decreasing the flame's intensity. He can not create, extinguish or amplify existing fire.
2. Niar, Aspect of Water
Niar is very ambiguous. Most of the time, she keeps at a distance from the other aspects, but when her calm voice sounds, even Chath seems to listen. She is a great proponent of reason and plotting, but like the treacherous currents of the sea, she may choose to strike swiftly in a great torrential outburst.
Niar's Touch [Level 0] - Allows Shadrian to move small amounts (a gallon) of concentrated water telekinetically. He can not change the water's state, create water, or amplify existing water.
3. Aeros, Aspect of Air
Aeros is silent but subversive. His intelligence is not as coldly efficient as Niar's, but he plots so much that his contrivances see an equal amount of daylight to the Water Aspect's. His rage is often accompanied by unusually cold winds.
Aeros's Voice [Level 0] - Allows Shadrian to telekinetically move and concentrate small amounts of air. He can not form the air to his whims and can only fire singular projectiles.
4. Har'Dro, Aspect of Earth
Har'Dro is very confident in her abilities, but very much a silent force amidst the babbling of the others. Being defensive in nature, she prefers to let her opponents break themselves upon a brick wall before taking any agressive action.
Har'Dro's Will [Level 0] - Allows Shadrian to telekinetically move small amounts of dirt and rock. He can not form, strengthen, or change the state of the earth he's working with.
5. Wussrun'Wa, Aspect of Dreams
Wussrun'Wa never discusses the course of action to take. It is genderless, and speaks with two voices: one feminine, and one masculine. As the guardian of the true Shadrian's caged soul, it is responsible for maintaining the Outsiders' anchor to Althanas, and is therefore respected by the others. Wussrun'Wa can be summoned to control Shadrian's body, but this usually only happens when the man is sleeping.
Wussrun'Wa's Mind [Level 0] - Shadrian will awaken from sleep whenever an uninvited, humanoid guest treads inside a radius of five yards around his sleeping body.
