Personality: The deep voiced sailor is similar to most men of the sea- enjoys revelry, crude stories, and rousing songs. He's fiercely devoted to people he forges friendships with (almost always fellow sailors), but generally untrusting of people he doesn't know. He has a tendency to be a bit too blunt or crude, sometimes making him seem rude. He does have a deep soft spot for his pet Sha'hkrai- despite the trouble it sometimes causes- who calms him with his presence. One striking part of his personality is that unlike most men of his age, and most sailors for that matter, he isn't very prone to "skirt-chasing". If asked, he will share that "The sea is my lady. She's the one who has my heart. Any mistresses would have to go through her to get to it." He takes special pride in his hair and is particularly fond of spicy foods.

Appearance: Dark skinned and broad shouldered, he's slightly leaner than most of his hefty, barrel-chested crew mates tend to be, but more agile. He has long arms and legs, with long, thin fingers. His hair extends down to the middle of his back and is in dreadlocks that are thick as cigars, two of them generally tying the rest back into a makeshift ponytail. In dress, he generally wears a loose, white cotton shirt, leather breaches and boots, and a red linen cloth which he uses as a bandana or hairband, and has a brass hoop earring in his left ear.

History
Angio's birth was exceptional in that his father died of a heart attack during the last moment of his conception and his mother died in childbirth. The midwife was able to save the infant, however, and his aunt took the boy to raise him. However, word of his birth- and the unusual circumstances around it- began to spread and swirl rumors within his hometown. The local clergy in particular had an interest in this, but not for positive reasons. They believed that the circumstances of his birth were a sign that the child was cursed and sought him out. His aunt stowed him away in a small fishing boat and set it out to sea; for her the prospect that he might not survive was outweighed by the knowledge that if they caught him, he would not survive. By good fortune, his boat was come across by a scouting group from a merchant ship, who took in the child. The entire crew raised the child, the captain assuming the place of an adoptive father. His youth was spent traveling port to port along the sea routes.

At the age of 15, the crew and ship was attacked at sea pirates who were also slavers. During the course of the raid, his adoptive father was killed, but managed to fire a single shot from a flintlock that would kill the captain of the pirate vessel. On the return voyage, he heard of a great deal of displeasure from the pirate crew about their new captain- who had been first mate- and worked along with the other slaves on his crew to convince the pirates not only to free them, but also to stage a mutiny. The new captain was ousted and sent to the deep, the second mate usurping command of the ship. A much more personable man was this captain, who had a distaste for slaving despite his love for piracy. He allowed once captive men- including Angio- to join his crew. As with the captain of the boat that rescued him as a child, Angio developed a strong bond with the new captain, who took him under his wing and gave him tutelage in magical arts, giving him the basis for learning a spell which he only called "The Eyes of the Sea".

After seven years, however, the captain has recently died of apparent natural causes, and the crew found itself coming to dock. Angio has made up his mind that after losing what would now be a third father, it is time he strike out on his own, away from his "family" crew, and begin his life anew as his own man.

Skills
-Rope Use: His time on ships has trained Angio to have the average sailors knowledge of using ropes: climbing/rappelling them, using them for makeshift pulleys, tying and untying various knots, swinging from them.

-Spell: Eyes of the Sea: A mind altering spell, at level 0 it is only active if he can make and maintain eye contact. People subject to it will become slightly unnerved at his presence as long as he holds their stare. The most this effect has at level 0 is creating a general sense of suspicion, distrust, or that there's "just something not right about him." This will generally alter someone's mood towards him, but little else.

-Seamanship: Having lived most of his formative years on the sea and being a sailor by trade, he knows the basics of navigating and manning a ship. This knowledge allows him to navigate to the extent of being able to follow astrological guides (the stars) but not charting a course through cartography or plot a course for speed or safely. Likewise, he knows how to hoist and reposition masts, as well as anchor or dock a ship. He can get a general sense of upcoming weather changes coming within a few hours by observing obvious clues, but not beyond that. He could serve the role of a mate or officer on a ship, but acting as a navigator or captain of his own vessel is above his expertise.

-Swimming: His skill is such that he is above merely treading water and staying afloat, but at the same time would struggle in strong currents, not be able to win any sort of swimming race, nor swim marathon sessions. He has a passing knowledge of how to paddle, how to breathe while paddling, diving, and can hold his breath for an average amount of time.

-Swordsmanship (Cutlass): Not very skilled at all. The his current skill, he can't really use swords defensively- such as parrying or blocking- at all. His training isn't formal, and mostly is based around ship use, such as cutting thick ropes. In combat, he could manage awkward chops. For the most part, his current swordsmanship skill is that he can manage to get the sword into or out of a scabbard without fumbling, can handle it without cutting himself, and can manage not to drop it while wielding it.

Equipment:
-Cutlass (Bronze) - while sharp, it is designed more as a tool for rope cutting than combat. If striking iron or steel, it would be prone to chipping, dinging, or even cracking.

-Spice satchel - one of the only spoils from his time on the seas, this satchel contains a few small pouches of spices; cumin, turmeric, dried nightshade (cayenne), and ginger root.

Familiar: Sha'hkrai - A tropical spider monkey. It has no very exceptional talents beyond normal. The only command it responds to is that it will come to it's master when called by name. A mischievous creature, it tends to like to poke around places and run off with trinkets it finds, particularly shiny ones. (A habit that has gotten it's master into trouble on more than one occasion!). While it can bite and scratch, it generally will not- at least in the presence of it's master- because of his domestication.
