Lineage
01-26-07, 02:27 PM
Name: Eldrin “Elk” Ravencraft
Age: 112 [20-ish developmentally]
Race: Dark Elf [No relation to Alerar, see explanation]
Gender: Male
Height: 6’1”
Weight: ~160lbs
Eye Color: His irises and pupils are both completely black, but at night his irises turn a dark purple and glow slightly.
Hair Color: Elk has short cut silver white hair, which is slightly spiked up, and back. The way it is cut makes it seem like he just left it after being wind-blown back.
Physical Description: Elk looks exactly like a Raiaeran High Elf except his eyes and the fact that no shadow falls on the ground behind him. Strangely, even his clothes and his sword don’t give a shadow. This is something that the Dark Elves of the Dark Lineage were never able to explain. Otherwise, his body is lithe and strong, and his face is handsome but not exceedingly beautiful. With a light tan it is obvious that even though most Elves have fair skin, he has been on battlefields and out in the sun most of his life. Born in Raiaera, his ears are long and come to a pointed tip.
Outfit Description: Eldrin has two outfits which he wears at different times. When on duty as a Bladesinger or doing a mission for them, then he wears the usual Bladesinger outfit; The green surplus with a single white sword on the left side to symbolize his rank as an apprentice then leather breeches. However, other then this, when he is not in Raiaera or doing something private, he wears his Ravencraft outfit that he left his village wearing. It is comprised of a red sleeveless doublet with black thorn designs running across the collar and down the sides. On the back is embroidered a red raven spreading his swings across his shoulders. Then he wears slightly baggy black pants with similar red thorn designs running down the sides. Overtop all this he has a dark gray long coat which falls to just above his feet and has a monotone black raven design, the crest of the Ravencraft family, on the back. The coat also has thorn designs around its cuffs, collar, and the bottom edge of the coat and running up the middle where it would normally come together. Normally he leaves it open.

The Lindien`Anmegil: This weapon is Elk’s signature. It was crafted by one of the ancient ancestors of his Dark Lineage and has been handed down to competent song swords for the entire existence of his family. Now handed to him, the blade is his heir to the Royal Shadow and is sealed with the Ravencraft mark on the hilt. The sword doesn’t look much like a sword when you really look at it. It is almost 4 inches thick at the center, and comes down to a curving blade and almost seems to be made from stone. Down the center of the blade there are a series of 12 holes that go at different angles and curves, which make the instrumental part of the weapon. The blade is dull [as in not shiny ^^] blood red color and the hilt is wrapped with black leather. At the base of the hilt there is a large red ring of the same metal as the blade, which is large enough for someone to fit his or her hand through. This is used to put one’s wrist through and swing the blade about, causing wind to go through the holes and make music. This is what makes the Lindien`Anmegil special, because it is both a sword and an instrument, designed to be used by song swords. The sword is currently made from steel, and is about four foot long and five inches wide.

Turlin Magic:

White Light: An external Turlin spell, which requires a few short notes and conjures up a sphere of white light. The sphere gives off more light then a lantern or torch would, and any undead that the light falls on will be discomforted by it. Very weak undead will be repelled by it, but if they are forced to or willing to, they will be able to enter the light with only minor pain. Doesn’t require very much concentration or energy, and can be done many times before it has any real effect on Elk.

God’s Sigh: A very hard tune to play, which requires Elk to disarm his sword and put his hand through the ring on the end. When it is completed, a burst of holy energy will fly out in all directions in a dome-like manner. Anything undead or unholy that gets touched by this holy magic will either be slightly burned or, if they are really weak, destroyed. The God’s Sigh takes a lot of energy out of Elk and he can only use it once a day. More powerful undead and unholy creatures will only be discomforted or slightly annoyed by the touch of the magic. The holy energy only spreads out about 80 feet in all directions before fading. The closer to Elk the undead is when it is released, the more effect it has. To anyone not undead, it will be nothing but a sad song to him or her.

Divinity Ward: Creates four runes each facing the four major directions. The song must be sung in five parts, each part placing a ward in a wanted place, then the 5th connecting them to create a barrier. If anyone tries to enter the barrier it will repel him or her, but if they are not undead, it will simply give them a sense that they shouldn’t enter. If anyone leaves the barrier after its in place, it will break and be dispelled. If undead try to enter they will be damaged, and very weak undead can even be incapacitated by it. Stronger undead will simply be repelled like non-undead, and demonic creatures will get easy when near the wards. The closer to one of the four runes someone is when they try to enter, the stronger the effect is. The concentration of the song mage cannot be broken until the 5th part is done or it will all be canceled. It takes a bit of energy from Elk and can only be done once a day.

White Strike: This is a tune that is strange in that Elk plays it on his sword, but uses his other hand to complete the spell. When the song is done, his left hand will begin to glow white and whenever he next touches something that is undead or evil it will be damaged greatly. If it is a weaker undead, it can be completely destroyed by the White Strike. Moderate to strong undead will simply be hurt or slightly burned. It takes a bit of time and concentration to prepare White Strike, and it can be placed on his sword as well, but it takes more time and greater amounts of energy to do so. It can only be used once a day.

Shadow Cipher: This is a skill that is innate to all Dark Elves, but was sealed by the High Council when he was taken from his village. He will never be able to use it unless it is released by the High Council [won’t be released until higher levels, if it ever is, so this is NOT level 0 skill]. This allows the Dark Elf to summon forth their shadow and use it to reach into another’s soul. While there they can break the person’s concentration or distort a spell that’s being cast. Stronger Dark Elves can even take other people’s consciousness. However, when used on Undead it can be used to greatly damage, control, or completely banish undead. The longer that a Dark Elf uses it, the more tainted they become, and if they use it too long then they can die. It also taints anyone it touches, and staying in someone else too long can taint him or her enough that they can be seriously damaged spiritually. This can turn Elves to Dark Elves.

Dark Elf Racial Explanation:
The Dark Elves are not entirely a race, but simply a minority group of Raiaeran High Elves. Their entire lineage lives within a rather large village hidden in the mountains of northern Raiaera. The High Council knows of their existence and helps to hide it from most of Raiaera, as long as they give one of their young to the Raiaerans every few years. As it happens, strange abilities often crop up among the Dark Elves and the Raiaeran High Council searches through their young for signs of talents they can use.

The Dark Elves were created during the War of the Tap by a group of Elven warriors who were intentionally cursed by Enarlin magic so that their could control shadow magic and more effectively destroy undead. What they didn’t know is that this curse was permanent and that it changed their soul and their physical form. Everyone born from their family has the similar taint on their forms, but not as much power as the original lineage. As it goes, it becomes weaker and weaker and changes into different forms. The Shadow Powers also opened the floodgate of dark energies that normally are almost inaccessible by most Elves. While they don’t use Enarlin magic, per say, they have their own division of Darkness powers, which gave themselves the names the Dark Elves. They are not at all related to or affiliated with the Dark Elves of Alerar, however, and it is just coincidence. These Dark Elves call themselves the Elves of the Dark Lineage, and only nicknamed the Dark Elves. They are not Drow.

Racial Attributes:

Dark Elves are physically the same as normal High Elves during the day. However, at night or in very dark places a few things change in them. First of all, their eyes become a dark purple that can slightly glow if caught by light, which is simply a sign that their vision has switched over to infrared vision. If a bright light comes into their vision, it will switch back to normal sight. They cannot control this, it simply automatically happens when a certain level of darkness comes into their sight. Another thing that is changed is that they are slightly faster at night, and able to concentrate better. This is only about 15% faster then their normal Elven day speed, but it is a noticeable increase. For the most part, spells are easier and a tiny bit less tiring to cast at night or in dark places. This, though, isn’t always very noticeable.

One major part of the Dark Elves is their connection with the Weir Realm, or the Shadow Realm. When a dark or undead being is nearby, then can sense them, and most dark creatures cannot get by them without at least being noticed. This connection is still alive in Elk. Stronger Dark Elves can even open gates to the Weir Realm and control the monsters that live there. Elk was taught none of this Shadow Magic, and the High Council sealed what his body had naturally be able to do.

History:

Under the Shadowless Sun: [This is a summary, very short]

Elk was the 100th victim of the pact of peace between their city and the High Bard Council of Raiaera. Though they admitted that they were still a part, if unknown, of Raiaera and thus under the rule of the Council, their continued existence had come at a price. Every few years representatives from the Council appeared and chose one or two young Dark Elves to take to Raiaera and put in their army, their schools, or the Bladesingers. Elk had been the 100th one chosen since the beginning of the pact and he was instantly placed into the Schools, given his choice, and then shortly joined the Bladesingers after choosing the Turlin school. He wanted to follow the path of his ancestors and help defend Raiaera from the Undead that his entire race was changed to destroy. It was in his blood to fight the Undead, and he wouldn’t deny that destiny. However, the High Council sealed away all of his dark powers and removed most of the Shadow taint on his soul, leaving only a miniscule amount that most except the most powerful wouldn’t be able to sense. Pretending he was a normal High Elves with some strange perks, he enlisted in the Bladesingers and was accepted rather fast for his dedication to their cause and his skill in Turlin magic. Though he only used Turlin, they didn’t mind, for it was very useful indeed in the fight against the darkness.

Elk would never be able to return to his people, nor tell of them, nor even admit he was one of them. He was now banned from ever even seeing the borders of his home. It was a price to pay for freedom. But alas, he was glad he was chosen, for it lifted the ban that the rest of his race had from ever leaving the Shadowed Lands of their home valley.
