Seeing as how the newest tournament is just about to start. I thought we might as well have another one of these threads. I'll post a list of the matches, then people can post saying what who they think will win and why. Also if you want to, feel free to add what you think the match will be like. (If this is in the wrong forum, could a mod please see to it that this thread is moved to where it should be.)

Conference 1 - Round 1

(Note that I used bold to signify who I think will win.)

Also, I'd like to see the top three match-ups people are either looking forward to seeing, or think will catch the attention of most people. For example, my three would probably be...

I'll edit the reasoning behind my choices later in the day. But know I'm giving everyone else the chance to share they opinions. So come on, who you cheering for?

I'll definitely be watching Uukan v. The Mime, Artifex v. Dirge, and Zook v. Atzar.

Primarily because I like rooting for my friends...although with the lsecond and last, I'll not be rooting because I like both parties, and I hate playing favorites. :p

But seriously, I think all the fights deserve attention, and I know I'll at least be skimming each one.

Oh~ Yeah. I remembered having one of these around for the Serenti and the LCC. Where is that News Caster nowadays, anyways? He makes me laugh, even though he dissed Murakama for her First Round in the Serenti. :p

1. Slayer of the Rot vs. Cyrus the Virus - Actually, this will be a very good fight if both can finish on time. Something I'm not overly concerned with, anyways.

2. Artifex Felicis vs. Dirge - Close call, but by a hair (literally)

3. Mage Hunter vs. Fenris

4. Storm Veritas vs. Witchblade - Just because she can. ;)

5. Rajani Aishwara vs. Djakara - ...Wow. I'm holding back my vote on this one. Too close to call.

6. Zerith vs. The Cinderella Man - Holding out on this as well. Both great RPers but I'm leaning towards Victor. Sorry~!

7. Solomon vs. Asukastrikes - Guess why I'm not voting on this match? :rolleyes:

8. Uukan Kimari vs The Mime - Just from looking at activity.

9. Sighter Tnailnog vs. Elrundir - Show him who's boss!

10. Ataraxis vs. Devin Argente - Because katars pwn!

11. Zieg dil' Tulfried vs. Culix - One vote for the little guy. If he's active enough, a win is not uncertain.

12. Lost Without You vs. Sevellus

13. Atzar Kellon vs. Zook Murning - Zook is very promising, so polish those edges and he could very well overtake Atzar.

14. Sir Fedlund Overby vs. Farmboy - Cuz farmers with pitchforks are never to be underestimated.

15. Oriseus vs. Raelyse - No COmment :p

16. Omegastar vs. Khalxaen - Cuz she can.

I think there's a thread already for people to trashtalk. This one is for predicting the outcomes of the matches. :P

As for my predictions...

Conference 1 - Round 1

1. Slayer of the Rot vs. Cyrus the Virus - These two have a slightly different approach to their writing. Slayer has a stronger technique, Cyrus has good clarity, so this will be close. Not to mention a fun thing to see ICly. Slight advantage to Slayer, though, because he doesn't seem to be doing anything, so chances are he would focus on this tournament.

2. Artifex Felicis vs. Dirge - This could go either way really, especially if Artifex re-reads his posts and correct the usual typos he makes here and there. Dirge, on the other hand, got pretty far in the LCC with Ranger, so he knows his way around tournaments.

3. Mage Hunter vs. Fenris - Pat has been in more battles and tournaments then a vast majority of participants, Fenris included. He always seems to be missing that extra finesse that would take him all the way though, but I don't think he'll stumble on the first step. Fenris is a solid writer from what I've seen, but he/she would have to pick it up a notch to take down an old vet such as Pat.

4. Storm Veritas vs. Witchblade - Storm maybe isn't around much OOCly, but when he dedicates himself to a tournament, he can deliver both activity and great writing. Witchblade's writing is good, but sometimes lacks some refinement and balance and I think that would make her lose here.

5. Rajani Aishwara vs. Djakara - Rajani could definitely surprise here. He's one of the top five most prospective new(ish) members on the site. However, he has no experience in tournaments while Shyam has an abundance of that on top of his usually great writing. He seems to be struggling a bit with Djakara, so this could be tight.

6. Zerith vs. The Cinderella Man - Abstaining, since TCM is my character. That will shoot Zerith in the face. :cool:

7. Solomon vs. Asukastrikes - Uhm, is there a need for an explanation? Asuka is a redhead chick, Solomon is not. If she went against god, I'd vote for her. :P Seriously though, this will be rather tight, but Solomon seems to have too much rust to scrape off and too little time.

8. Uukan Kimari vs The Mime - Uukan is one of those people that pops up every once in a whole just to remind everybody he's still around before he sinks back into inactivity. I fear that will happen here as well. But since I haven't seen much of Mime's writing, this vote is really just a wild guess.

9. Sighter Tnailog vs. Elrundir - Old Raiaera writer vs. the current one. This is bound to be fun, even for people who aren't too fond of the elves. I'm giving Madison advantage here though. Both are excellent writers, but Madison seems to be on a roll when it comes to activity, and since his writing has seldom been lacking, Elrundir will have a handful.

10. Ataraxis vs. Devin Argente - I'm glad that my bracket got chosen because I wanted these two to go against each other. They are both new members of Althanas, both with excellent writing styles. The winner here will be the one that will step over the line between wordy and too wordy less times, and I think that will be Ataraxis.

11. Zieg dil' Tulfried vs. Culix - Back in the first round of the LCC, Zeig and I fought Culix and Lighthawk76. This time around the Goliath will once again stand against the cocky little David. I'm giving Zieg the advantage not so much because of his writing or his level, but because Culix seems to be neither here nor there when it comes to activity.

12. Lost Without You vs. Sevellus - Ay, the battle of the people that have been inactive for a long while. I haven't seen much from either of them in pretty much all my time on Althanas, so I'm taking a wild guess here.

13. Atzar Kellon vs. Zook Murning - I have confidence in Atzar. I read one of his battles, and while there is still definitely room for improvement, I think the same is the issue with Zook. The difference is that Atzar seems slightly more in tune with the character he is playing.

14. Sir Fedlund Overby vs. Farmboy - Because I found the concept of a giant bunny hilarious. Reminded me of the giant otter we had a while back. Farmboy will put up quite a fight though.

15. Oriseus vs. Raelyse - Mainly because Oriseus seems to be on and off like Christmas lights when it comes to activity. he can give Raelyse a run for his money though, so I feel the scores might be tight on this one.

16. Omegastar vs. Khalxaen - Omegastar is a large question mark for me. I'm basing this decision mostly because I rped with Khalxaen once or twice so I know what she's capable of. If only her name wasn't so hard to spell. :P

Since I'm a little too new to accurately predict, I will just say that I'm definitely looking forward to Ataraxis and Devin's match. And the pyrotechnics of Cyrus vs. Slayer. Mwaha. Try not to blow up the world.

1. Slayer of the Rot vs. Cyrus the Virus -- Excellent battle. I'm going to abstain on this one...

2. Artifex Felicis vs. ((Dirge)) -- This is another good battle, but I'm giving the nod to Dirge.

3. ((Mage Hunter)) vs. Fenris -- Too much experience. Mage Hunter is a new character, though, so it's entirely possible that Fenris could catch him sleeping with a character he's not too familiar with.

4. ((Storm Veritas)) vs. Witchblade -- I'm not taking anything away from Witchblade, but Storm is one of the best writers on the site from what I've read. I think the major variable for him will be his ability to put enough time into his posts.

5. Rajani Aishwara vs. ((Djakara)) -- Good battle, but Djakara - when things are running smoothly - is another one of the best writers on the site. If both bring their 'A' games, Djakara wins.

6. Zerith vs. ((The Cinderella Man)) -- Damn... this tournament is full of em, eh? Another great battle, with the nod going to the man that has a gun. :p

7. Solomon vs. ((Asukastrikes)) -- I'm making this prediction without knowing anything about Solomon, though, so I may be wrong here.

8. Uukan Kimari vs The Mime -- Abstain... I've only read snippets of both, and they seem pretty even as far as I could tell.

9. Sighter Tnailog vs. Elrundir -- This, I can honestly say, I will follow closely. Excellent writers with compatable characters... this could turn into a story that nobody will want to miss. I can't give a nod to either one right now.

10. ((Ataraxis)) vs. Devin Argente -- Ataraxis got my vote over Argente for most prospective newbie for a reason. It will undoubtedly be close when the points come in, but I'm sticking to my guns here.

11. ((Zieg dil' Tulfried)) vs. Culix -- How can you vote against a demon? And a demon with a good style besides!

12. ((Lost Without You)) vs. Sevellus -- This is a guess. I don't know anything about Sevellus, but LWY is good.

13. Atzar Kellon vs. Zook Murnig -- This will be a very good battle between somewhat similar characters. IC, my dragon is going to eat Caduceus's neck... but OOC, I can't say.

14. ((Sir Fedlund Overby)) vs. Farmboy -- This could be one of the more entertaining reads, given the classic farmer vs. rabbit clash. I'm looking forward to it, but I think SFO has an edge in style here.

15. Oriseus vs. ((Raelyse)) -- Both good styles, but Raelyse seems a bit more reliable to me.

16. Omegastar vs. ((Khalxaen)) -- I've read one of Khalxaen's threads, and I was impressed. Thus, the vote.

1. Slayer of the Rot vs. Cyrus the Virus -- Deary me, I think this is going to go very well. I, personally, am rooting for Cyrus, but can't wait to read this fight.

2. Artifex Felicis vs. Dirge -- Abstaining, due to participating. Good luck Artifex.

3. Mage Hunter vs. Fenris -- I've gotta put my money with Pat. I haven't seen much with the new character, but I'm thinkin' he's going to rock. I can't wait to see him later in the bracket. ;)

4. Storm Veritas vs. Witchblade -- I'd like to say that one will win over the other, but with the experience between them it is going to be a close match. I think the difference will be the difference between levels (tactifully of course).

5. Rajani Aishwara vs. Djakara -- Shaym's been around far too long to go down in the first round. Plus I've not seen anything from Rajani since returning.

6. Zerith vs. The Cinderella Man -- Guns? Heh. I give it to TCM because of the experience of the writer. I've written with both, and read enough from both to see this one through. However, I haven't seen enough from Zerith lately to make this a sure thing.

7. Solomon vs. Asukastrikes -- I'm not sure who Solomon is, but I don't think that Asukastrikes is pretty good.

8. Uukan Kimari vs The Mime -- I'm going to have to not throw up an opinion about this one. The Mime's not bad, but he might get pulled down with his technical problems in his posts. However, Uukan has joined enough tournaments to be a master, but never posted enough to prove that he'll stay active. Good luck to both.

9. Sighter Tnailog vs. Elrundir -- I can't wait, I'll tell you that. This is going to be an ass-kickin' fight. Probably the best of the first round. However, I'm going to have to give Elrundir the win, but only 'cause I adore his writing style and character... and know nothing about Sighter's charry.

10. Ataraxis vs. Devin Argente -- I'm going to go with Devin Argente. I've been following one of his quests, and I'm impressed by his writings. Ataraxis, however, is also pretty good... but I haven't read near as much of his stuff.

11. Zieg dil' Tulfried vs. Culix -- I'm leaving my personal dislike of demon's aside for this one... ;). I vote Culix as the winner based on his character. I loved it in the previous tourney's, but haven't seen anything since my return. Zieg, while he is a vet, has never really impressed me as much.

12. Lost Without You vs. Sevellus -- Honestly, I don't know who LWY is yet... and it's driving me insane. ;) However, I've seen a bit by him and I'm impressed. I also don't know who Sevellus is, writing or person...

13. Atzar Kellon vs. Zook Murnig -- Can't vote... haven't seen anything from either...

14. Sir Fedlund Overby vs. Farmboy -- Heh, a farmer and a rabbit. The timeless battle come to Althanas! I'm not a domestic terrorist (PETA), so I'm going with the human's on this one! Make some rabbit soup. ((No offense to anyone who may be PETA.))

15. Oriseus vs. Raelyse -- Haven't seen anything from either, somehow, but I'm going with Raelyse.

16. Omegastar vs. Khalxaen -- I've judged a couple of Khalxaen's threads, as well as rped with her a couple of times. I'm not so sure how she's going to do with a battle, but I'm going for her anyway.

Top Three Matchups

1. Sighter Tnailog vs. Elrundir -- both incredible writers. I think this battle's already drawn my attention more than any other... and it hasn't even started.

2. Sir Fedlund Overby vs. Farmboy -- I can't wait to see the human's win! Or maybe the animals! We'll see.

3. Atzar Kellon vs. Zook Murning -- I've never seen anything by either. But from what I've seen they are somewhat similar. I can't wait to read their battle.

I feel so confused...

I'm totally looking forward to kicking Storm's ass in. I have a feeling I may win ICly but he'll probaby beat me OOCly when it comes down to the score. His writing is better than mine, the only way I could see him losing in that sense to me is if he somehow doesn't have the time or inspiration to write up those awesome posts of his.

By the way Z-Man, I think you can totally take Victor, he's such a pussy. :p

I'm psyched about the Atzar and Zook battle, but I can't truly decide who will win. I'm guessing Atzar ICly, but OOCly I do not know.

For Witchblade and Storm, I truly don't know. I am tipping towards Witchy though, because she's my favorite.

I'm also looking forward to the Ataraxis and Devin fight, two great new members duking it out(too bad I am not in this tournament or there'd be three great new members, haha just kidding).

That's pretty much all I want to see, really.

Matchups I feel like commenting on.

Slayer of the Rot vs. Cyrus the Virus -- Their other matches ruled, I think Cyrus goes over here because he's really motivated.

Artifex Felicis vs. Dirge -- Colin always brings it for tournaments and beats people you wouldn't expect. This isn't to say that I feel Colin is going to win necessarily, but if both people are active this could be a really fun read.

Rajani Aishwara vs. Djakara -- Inside information suggests Djakara will be too busy to bring his A game. Rajani definately has momentum working on his side here. I feel I won't be able to beat him, but at best, hold him off.

Solomon vs. Asukastrikes -- I'm disappointed Master Raven isn't facing someone more high profile. Solomon is no slouch, but I wanted to see Asuka in a marquee matchup.

Sighter Tnailog vs. Elrundir -- As long as this battle doesn't lean towards melodrama, it will be a lot of fun.

Zieg dil' Tulfried vs. Culix -- In general, when I see rematches between relatively equal opponents, I'm prone to go with the loser of the previous match. Culix wins in the match of the round.

Sir Fedlund Overby vs. Farmboy -- I don't know much about Farmboy, but I really wanted to see this. Please take the bad joke route! Please, I beg you. Farmboy, if you decide to give up your spot in the tournament to Elmer Fudd, I will love you forever.

Omegastar vs. Khalaxaen- I like Southeast Asia. Khalaaxaen wins.

Eeeeek, this thread is making me feel all sorts of pressure. I don't know how I am going to deal with that. But, so far, what I hear people subtley (or not so subtley) suggesting is that taking the bad joke angle as far as possible is the template for the best possible score. I will have to remember that.

Matches I want to see:

Atzar v. Zook

Is it my imagination, or are these two guys long lost brothers or something? Quick comparison from profiles.

Appearance:
Atzar-His hair is nearly always pulled back and held in a ponytail
Zook-[hair] tied back at the nape of his neck in a sort of low-hanging ponytail

Personality:
A-It takes a fair amount to anger him
Z- Caduceus is a relatively calm fellow

Magic:
A-Elemental Magic
Z- Elemental Magic

History:
A- He wasn’t thought of very highly in Tel’Han anyway
Z-years of study amongst the other magicians of Tel'Han

Yup, should be interesting to see if they get confused and start attacking themselves.

Cyrus v. Slayer

Obviously these two have a bit of history together and should prove to be very interesting.

Sighter v. Elrundir

Two of the veterans on this site going against each other with long proven characters. Promises to have a lot of depth and history.

Who am I cheering for?? Eh..I don't know. The best man, how does that sound?

Facing Ataraxis will be awesome. I only hope the tournament starts after the fifth of February, else I might be jumped by activity issues.

I just found this thread now! Little did I know the whole while I was batteling the odds were stacked against me! Lol. All in good fun though! I look forward to the outcome, whatever it may be. With any luck, my luggature, heavyweight character will be able to get over his emotional problems at the end of it all, wherever the end might come for him.

I feel like commenting on these, so I shall. I have neglected the battles I don't know enough about either participant to make much of a comment.

Division I

Osato (0) vs. Lisean (0) – I'm not looking forward to this battle at all. I expect Osato to wipe the floor with Lisean. Given that Kyle has a second character in the first conference, I expect that his efforts will be placed there.

Madyrn (0) vs. Karuka Tida (0) – Counting out Matt is going to cost people, and I personally have not been all that impressed with Karuka as of yet. To me, this is a case of a proven comodity vs an unknown, Dow Jones v Nasdaq. Personally, I always err on the side of the proven comodity, but this battle will be a great chance for Karuka to prove herself to the forum.

Division II

Urei (0) vs. Sid (0) – As long as Urei decides he wants to win, he will win this battle decisively.

Izvilvin (6) vs. hushpuppy(3) – Hushpuppy. I really don't think this is the kind of battle that Matt will thrive in.

Division III

INDK (12) v Tshael (3) – I may be biased, but this is my pick for best battle of the first round. I can't tell you for sure about Manda, but seeing as both of us wanted this match, we're probably both more concerned about a good thread than advancing.

Arsenic Ruin (0) v Christina Bredith (2) -- Christina will win, but I don't think this will be a default win. Arsenic Ruin is active in tournaments.

Division IV

Ashiakin (6) v. Dissinger (10) – This could be one of the heaviest action battles of the tournament. It looks like a continuance of Dissinger's bad luck though.

Dorian (0) v. Tigereye (0) - Dorian in a battle intrigues me. This one has my attention for that reason.

This is going to be close but INDK has a great battle record and there's a reason he's considered one of the best on the boards.

Assuming that Sei can stay active, this should be a fairly one sided fight with little to no chance of an upset from Sok.

I have a gut instinct about this one.

Me vs Mage Hunter
-Not actually saying anything, but probably the first thread I've actually had with Pat in a while. Hope he's up to it at least.

Djakara vs Cyrus
-I picked them because I really really don't want to go up against either of them. So I figure only having to fight one is better than both. Rooting for Cyrus though, cause he's technically the underdog I think. Only in this match though.

Storm vs Zerith
-I ran out of inspiration here, and I just figured that Zerith would probably end up stepping it up and making a close thread in this round. I'm not voting for either of them, but I do hope it is a good one.

Uukon vs Soloman
-I'm going with Soloman here. Mostly cause I think he'll win, and tha's mostly gut instinct.

NEXT ROUND FINALLY!!!

Yamihara vs Sherin -- I think that Yamihara is going to take this one, only because I dont' know much about Sherin. I hope that both post well, and a lot, because I'm really interested in knowing who I'm possibly going to be up against in the future... lol. That, and I love Yamihara's writing.

Dissinger vs Ashiakin -- I didn't even think about it when I voted for it, but I think Ashiakin is going to pull this one out again. He's an amazing writer, and I love his stuff... sorry for the rematch.

INDK vs Dopebeatz -- Since INDK is "retired" I think that dopebeatz might have this one. I haven't seen anything by him though, so if INDK comes back for this I'd have to give it to him. We'll see. Hopefully inactivity isn't the reason for the win.

Sok vs Dorian -- OMG, I have fallen in love with Sok's writing. If he doesn't pull this out I may cry. No offense to Dorian, but I have to go with my new, rising idol. Lol.

Khariss vs Urei -- Urei's an amazing writer, but gone. Khariss' has this one.

Osato vs Corvus -- No comment, since it's me.

Izvilvin vs Patios -- Cyrus has this one. He's good, and the drow's an awesome character.

Madyrn vs Iain -- This is going to be the closest one I think. Iain has come a VERY long way since he played Kaz (I used to rp with him way back when), and I think he can pull this one out.

My votes:

Yamihara v. Sherin: Yamihara, hands down.

Dissinger v. Ashiakin: I dunno...it was close last time, and Seth Dahlios is one of my favorite (probably eliminating "one of") characters on this site. So I dunno...

INDK v. Dopebeatz: INDK hasn't been around in a long time. Dopebeatz, if he posts, has this one.

Sok v. Dorian: I don't know much about Dorian, but Sok is good.

Khariss v. Urei: I love Urei...but he's still on haitus, as far as I know. If Khariss remembers to post (like he really didn't until almost the last minute last time), this will be his.

Osato v. Corvus: Osato.

Izvilvin v. Patois: Izvilvin. Cyrus just knows the character too well. And has anyone seen anything out of Patois or Bleater recently? *Doesn't know if the guy's still around*

Madyrn v. Iain: Iain's been pretty inactive lately, but if he's active in this it'll probably be him, since I'm sure Cyrus really doesn't want to have a solo battle of Madyrn v. Izvilvin. Even though I think that would be hilarious. Not that Cyrus won't try hard...since, y'know...he did beat me, knowing that if both characters went far enough, it'd wind up being Madyrn v. Ilzvivin.

Yamihara will win because I remember that she is a great char, and I barely remember Sherin at all.

Due to my seething anger right now, I'm voting for Ash. When I calm down I want Diss to put a legend onto the shelf where he belongs.

Personally, I don't think INDK is coming back. So Dopebeatz.

Sok shall win, though I haven't seen much, what I have seen is good.

Go Khariss. Urei being gone helps him here, but if they were both around a close fight.

Go other furry Corvus, kick at it back to him home!

Izi should win cause he's pretty awesome.

I want Iain to win cause he's a good guy, writer, and Matt shouldn't have 3 chars in a tourny. Something's wrong here.

Here's my thoughts of this round, Nya~

Yamihara vs. sherin - sherin's style is fairly simple and easy to read. That is his strength here, although Yamihara may prove herself with her ways with words. Time will tell.

Dissinger vs. Ashiakin - Diss is going to have it rough this round. Ash is not going to have an easy victory here, either. A good fight to watch.

INDK vs. dopebeatz - I haven't seen either of them for a while, so this may be a real toss-up. Whoever shows up, wins. UPDATE: Ooh! Shyam's back! Still waiting for dopebeatz to show up, though...

Sok vs. Dorian - Gut feeling says this one Sok will have it. Easy or hard, that's another story.

Khariss vs. Urei - Khariss would do pretty OK here, but Urei will need to go all-out for the win.

Osato vs. Corvus - Do you know how hard it is to decide on this? Osato... I'd like to see how he plays the story out. Corvus, well, I'm rooting for our very own furry Highlander here, too. So... *votes for Corvus*

Izvilvin vs. Patois - Izzy is in the hizouse! He's taking this round easily. Unless he lets his guard down, then he's definitely gonna get pwned.

Madyrn vs. Iain - Going for Iain, since having both Izzy and Madyrn in this next round surely means the world is coming to an end. ...or is it?

Man, I am so indecisive this round, Nya~ So many to cheer on... so little to move on... :p

Dorian vs Madyrn -- Dorian'll put up a good fight, no doubt, but I'm going to have to go with Madyrn. I want to settle things with him next round, Osato doesn't like that he beat up Karuka, lol.

Osato vs Dopebeatz -- However, I think I'm beat. Damn.

Corvus vs Izvilvin -- Izzy's going to win. Handsdown. No offense to my opponent from the last round, but the assassin's amazing.

Ashiakin vs Yamihara -- I wanted to fight Yamihara this round, but oh well. I'm rooting for her anyway...

Dorian vs Madyrn -- Dorian knows his stuff and has a creative and rather intriguing writing style. Madyrn on the other hand, has a simple and to the point style. (At least, from what little I've read) Both are good styles, and both are winners. It now comes down to detail. 55 : 45

Osato vs Dopebeatz -- Osato has an excellent writing style, and a creative thought process. I think that if he keeps his hopes up, he might fly through this with ease. However! Dopebeatz too has an excellent writing style, and thought process. He might pull this off, who knows. 40 : 60

Corvus vs Izvilvin -- Izvilvin has this battle beat simply by shear power and finesse, but Corvus might be able to pull it off if he figures out how to outsmart the one person that can easily outsmart him. 25 : 75

Ashiakin vs Yamihara -- Both of these characters have solid, above par writing styles, and I can't really say who will win. So, it's a toss up. Wait it out and see who's standing when the dust settles is about all I can say. ?? : ??
