Black Sunshine and Hell Fire, first of the Super Deus ex Machina

The Black palace of Ettermire, a sight that few people outside the country of Alerar would ever have the fortune of seeing. The voluminous black clouds that blotted the sun from view made her smile as she entered the main courtyard of the Palace. Kell was more than proud to be here today, when the feline had first heard the call of the new king, she was so ecstatic that she had sent a fairly unrevised portfolio to his highness. But now that she had been fortunate enough to gain audience with his majesty, she had skipped many nights of sleep as she worked feverously over new plans, having found a somewhat useful map of the country and from her own quick visit to Salvar, the point at which they were boring the tunnel through.

As the feline approached the doors to the palace the customary guards checked her for weapons, which of course none were found by their tribulations. Within moments she was escorted to the waiting chambers adjacent to the throne room. Before her were a number of other engineers and scholars. She sat as far away from anyone of them as possible, but still in clear view of the large geared clock that set in the wall just above the door to the throne room. The feline prided herself on being early to such important events, as she watched the clock.

fifteen minutes to spare….

Those minutes crept by, causing her a bit of discomfort in her guts as she ran over the details of her short presentation. Kell was almost lost into herself when the call for her came, sending a number of the others into a bit of an uproar, mostly complaints of having been there since such and such time and that their proposals must be heard.

Her long tail flicked around a bit as she was lead before his highness and royal advisers, whom mostly appeared to be both ill tempered and all around bored. Kell bowed quickly to them and held till his highness spoke.

“Alright, let’s see what you have…” he said with a bit of a yawn.

Kell nodded before stretching out her work and pinning it to a prepared easel.

“Your highness, I’m sure you’ve be thus far bored by the simple proposals brought forth by those lesser colleagues before me.” She paused slightly as she flipped over the first pages that displayed the basics of the railway. “however, unlike those before me, I bring not only a way to unite Alerar and Salvar, but also bring you leaps and bounds closer to bringing an end to the war with Raiaera.” She finished with a smile as she stepped aside, showing a detailed sketch of an artillery piece.

“Your idea is a canon? We have those already,” The king said with a little wave of disinterest.

“Well my lord, this is no average canon, this will be able to launch a rather heafty payload into the heart of your enemies land” she paused and smiled again, “from your doorstep.”

His highness leaned forward with interest.

“You cannot be serious,” one of his advisors spoke up. “it cant be done”

“Yes, I’m very serious, you see, the fault of canons now days, is that they are isolated to terrain, but you see, by using a system of a circular quad rail around the city, you can build it not only larger due to the rails ability to hold more weight than normal wheels, but also you can mathematically determine angle, trajectory, direction and distance. Think about it my lord, with just one of these, you can lay siege to the core of your enemy’s country.”

The advisors babbled amongst themselves for a moment before the king silenced them.

“Continue miss…” he paused as one of his advisors whispered in his ear” …Tesla, what other interesting ideas do you propose?”

With a quick smile she flipped over a couple more pages “Well your highness, armored trains, and cars, thus protecting from attackers, and this marvel,” she paused again flipping another page,” the quad rail steam engine and battle platform cars. These powerful and fast beasts could be used to move large numbers of troops, machinery, small artillery or even supplies to build new fortifications. With just one of these you could move a thousand or more troops to a point as well as equipment and even a sort of fortress quickly to any point on the rails.”

His highness smiled as he listened intently.
