Ganton Reeves

Guess I have a thing for refreshing old characters I never used and really want to get back into. Thise time, however, I don't have to change much.

Things had never gone horribly well for Ganton. True, his personality didn't help much, but it's not like anyone else did him any favors. Well, aside from his brother bailing him out of all that trouble with the colony, and his sister picking him up out of his various scuffles. Okay, to tell you the truth, the people around him in the past generally had a tendency to do him favors, which would have been all well if he didn't also have a profound level of skill at screwing it all up.

In some areas of space humanity has long ago begun searching for genetic perfection, and though that research has declined and experimentation retracted, many of the throwbacks and artifacts of this research still roam the stars. The Reeves family were of course, one branch of such peoples. The ninth development of one particularly prosperous private company that had since gone bankrupt in a set of circumstances and intrigues that had also led to his parents' arrest.

They had been part of a batch of stock called Terran Theta, which had initially numbered only about 900 in initial production, and that number has only declined since. They were superior to general humanity in many various ways of intellect, senses, physical capabilities, and bio-adaptability to new environments. Generation I that is, subsequent generations did not fair as well.

The Theta-II series for instance, was no better in most things than their unmodified human stock, but they were prone to developing oversensitivities and erratic nervous disorders. This revelation in fact was what caused the downfall of their development company as value dropped exponentially and fatcats tried to save themselves by whatever means necessary.

All in all though, it would be hard to say whether Ganton's insecurities and failures can be blamed solely on his conditions. His older siblings both made very great successes of themselves. While the three of them had all turned to piracy after their parents' disappearance, his siblings had managed to rise out of it to make something fairly successful out of themselves. His brother Karnoff, known as The Wolf in some circles, used his share of the profits to hire his own crew, and eventually colonized his own planet with them, and though the settlement is small and in a very harsh environment, it is profitable and very legit lately. That's almost nothing next to the sister, Mirka, who had been born with an entropic disease of the nervous system and had to be amplified with nanotechnology and cybernetic implants just so that she would be able to move. But she went on to eventually found her own mercenary force, and has expanded it to the point where she's essentially an admiral of her own private armada. Part of the reason her brother Karnoff's settlement is so successful is because of the patronage of Mirka's army, and the security that his sister generously provides with it.

Ganton though, was never good at even saving his money. Self control never his strong suit. Perhaps because he generally had less hardship to overcome, he never rose too much. Most recently he undertook a private enterprise, and not only botched it, but his getaway also. Leading almost directly to his crash on an underdeveloped out of the way planet known as... Althanas. Where exists far more possibilities than he would have ever imagined.

Even there he didn't get off to all that great a start though, as he crashed into the ocean and had to swim to shore... but his maybe his luck will turn upwards from here out...

Name: Ganton Reeves
Age: 35 Galactic Standard Years. As far as his physical development goes, he'd just be recently out of his teens.
Hair: Primarily brown, but mottled with blond and grey in patches.
Eyes: Brown, flecked with silver
Build: He's thin and gangly, with a small frame and long limbs, but is far heavier and solid he appears. He stands about 6'3 at 265 lbs, but looks about a hundred lbs lighter.
Description: He has a boyish face and close cropped hair, with a little bit of sparse stubble growing on his face. He is never seen without his pair of black lensed goggles. He looks a lot lighter than he actually is, though his body would obviously be somewhat muscular under close inspection. He has some light scarring on his arms, chest, and back and carries himself with a very scruffy hangdog air.
Clothing: A grey sleeveless microfiber jumpsuit that he's taken to leaving unzipped down the front over a white shirt, a belt with holster, black combat boots and matching fingerless gloves, and his refraction vest and goggles. His jumpsuit has 6 pockets in total. (two on each leg and each side of his chest.)

Traits/Abilities:
Sensitive Eyes: His eyes are extremely photosensitive, and thus while he can see extremely well in dark and low light conditions, he gets almost blinded under an amount of light that most of us would find commonplace. Thus he has to wear a pair of special goggles that allow him to make due without extreme pain under ordinary conditions. He can withstand dusk and twilight conditions with discomfort though, with extreme discomfort for an overcast sky. Dust, allergens, and hostile gases also irritate his eyes more than they would most people.

Synapse Adrenal-Endorphins: About once every 6-8 he can trigger a surge of nervous chemicals throughout his body that will extremely amplify his accuracy, reaction time, endurance, and strength for no more than about 20 minutes, though it varies slightly on his circumstances at the time. His physical structure and nervous system wouldn't be able to handle less time than that. However, he still becomes extremely exhausted after it's over and must rest for at least a half an hour, although he won’t really be up to speck unless he rests about 4-8. If he's already tired but still capable of using it, he will receive a surge of energy, but must rest twice as long after it's over.

Otherwise he only has strength and endurance a little above average. Whether that's from his heightened density and genetic makeup, or simply from a rough and tumble life of piracy and tavern brawls remains to be seen.

Skills/Knowledge
Tech Based: Ganton comes from a high-tech, low-magic society. He probably would question whether magic really even exists. And he's going to be somewhat unfamiliar with how to do many things without the technology he's used to (such as shaving), though he does know some basics... like how to make fire. (in theory anyways.) God forbid riding some sort of animal though (like a horse.), however, he will most likely be able to figure out most kinds of technology that might be found planet-side, though it may seem slightly stone age to him. He'd probably be able to make simple repairs to mechanisms if given all the parts, or at least be able to figure out what's wrong with it. He would also be able to pilot any advanced technology crafts that may, but probably won’t, find their way to (or already existed on) Althanas.

Combat: Ganton knows something of the art of fighting. Namely: Guns and unarmed. He's a good shot as far as aim and sense of depth, both when he's aiming and determining if someone can hit him, but isn't familiar with more primitive firearms, and a bow would be completely unfamiliar. After that he's also about average with unarmed combat, and fairly familiar with knifework. Combat in general is one of the very few things he might be considered slightly GOOD at. (tavern brawls) He keeps his head, retains a good situational awareness, and can think quickly as far as improvised weaponry and cover.

Equipment:

Goggles: Ganton's goggles have a fairly tight seal against his face, and are necessary for his day to day existence, especially on a primitive planet such as Althanas. They have an added benefit of shielding his eyes from the elements and dust particles. They act as extreme sunglasses, letting him see with comfort when in more light than his eyes can tolerate.

Depleted Blaster: He has a variable blaster that he's had in a holster on his belt ever since he was a small child. Provided, of course, it is fully functional, it can be charged from most sources of light, or plugged in to the charger that is unfortunately in his craft at the bottom of the sea at the moment. It can be set to varying degrees of output based on how much energy is charged at the time. Unfortunately, it was slightly fried and depleted during his mad swim for the shore, and he has no means to even try to charge it, but he keeps it around for a variety of reasons, barring sentimental he may be able to get it repaired... or use it to bluff his way out of trouble. (He doesn’t' seem to realize that most locals wouldn't even know it for anything other than a fancy toy.)

Hull Knife: More of a hull-chisel, but it's a more primitive piece of technology that is nevertheless extremely useful in the act of space-piracy. It only has one "bladed" edge, that being the flat tip, but it contains a high-recoil spring and dampeners, so that when it's pressed against something the spring will recoil and amplify the power behind the strike. Besides the gadgets the hull-knife is a nice quality of steel and Ganton can use it as something of a makeshift weapon. However the lack of a bladed ledge and the length of the tool being about 2' makes it unwieldy and awkward compared to anything he would be used to fighting with. Being fairly simple in use and design, it is powered entirely by the kinetics operating it. There is a moment’s delay between the initial strike and the amplified recoil. Also, there is only any amplified recoil against hard surfaces that the chisel wont slide on.

Refraction Vest: Having durability somewhere in between thin leather and thick wool, his Refraction Vest isn't exactly designed for defense against any sort of physical attack. However, it's fairly useful for resisting energy damage. Low levels of hostile energy would be completely disrupted by hitting the vest, broken up and vented across a wide area mostly in the form of light with a little heat, but against any serious lethal damage the most it could do would be to disrupt the flow just enough to save the life of the wearer, maybe. It's not terribly efficient, but every little bit helps. Unfortunately, it's also slightly too small for Ganton, not quite covering to his waist, and he general doesn't even bother fastening it in the front.

Microfiber jumpsuit: His jumpsuit is woven of extremely fine, durable threads. It's waterproof, but not air tight, and is resistant to most forces that would tear it, and some that would cut. This is not to say it's much against swords and arrows (which might not pierce it, but would definately pierce him), just don't waste your good scissors on it.

Watch: His left glove contains a timekeeping device that will give him time increments appropriate to whatever planet he find himself on, depending on various settings. He mostly uses it as a stopwatch when he activates his "Adrenal-Endorphins", he has it set to beep after ten minutes, then again after 5.

Hmm... hope I didn't add too much.

I'm going to approve this, but keep in mind that getting your gun repaired will not be an easy task.
