Shadow Reaper
03-11-07, 12:03 AM
Name: Shadow/K/J
Age: 2
Race: Shadow Reaper
Hair Color: -/Dirty Blonde/Dirty Blonde
Eye Color: Red
Height: 6'2/5'8/6'
Weight: As much as a shadow can be.
Personality: Sceadu finds the world to be one big adventure. Everything's new and wonderful and it's ready to experience as much of it as possible. With so very very little life experience of any kind Sceadu's extremely naive and carries an innocent outlook on everything. It doesn't understand good and bad, right and wrong, it just does as it pleases. Sceadu's a friendly cheerful thing despite what it is, probably because it doesn't actually realize what it is at this point.
Appearance:
Standard form:
The first thing you're going to notice is the teeth, big ol' gnashes that would be more than capable of rendering your flesh asunder in a rather painful manner. Next would be the deep set red eyes that bore deep into one's soul with a message of insatiable hunger, one that would devour you without a thought or care before moving on to the next. Then is the fact that Sceadu is literally made up of it's namesake, a bestial shaped mass of shadows that moves about with form and purpose. For an over all body structure think imposing werewolf with a much shorter muzzle and compacted face, longer ears and claws that lead out into mini scythes for both feet and hand digits. Sceadu as Sceadu is an ever-changing figure that radiates all those feelings associated with death, with one's own take on it dictating just how exactly the finer details of Sceadu's form appear. Sceadu shows one's epitome of Death, it's form mimicking their personal perception of it.
J & K:
J and K are Sceadu's human forms, with J the male and K the female counterparts to each other. As such both J and K are very similar in appearance, to the point that were they seen together one could imagine them to be fraternal twins with J just that little bit taller than K.
Both are of average height for their sexes, J around 6ft and K 5''8', both lanky slim builds and both with messy dirty blonde hair 'cut' to the shoulder. One of many oddities to their appearances would be the fact that J is the 'pretty' one and K is the handsome one, like the Gods got mixed up somewhere along the line. The second odd thing would have to be their rather unnatural skin tone. The tone being the literal problem as though they're both a shade of beige, at the same time there's an underlying grey tone washed over their skins that gives off a rather unhealthy pallor when thought about. Last for the physical oddities would have to be the crimson iris's of both forms and the endless black depths of their pupils. Sceadu can't lose the fact it's an embodiment of Death and as 'the eyes are the window to the soul' it's eyes do just that, well sort of. Gazing into K or J's eyes is as hypnotizing as staring Death in the face. A good reason why it is very uncommon for either J or K to directly look into the eyes of another.
Clothes for both are simple loose fitting cotton button up shirts and loose brown leather pants. No shoes, no accessories, nothing extra. Just that. With just that having the amazing ability not to get dirty at near on any point for the obvious reason that appearances are just for show with J and K and unless Sceadu actually wants something there it doesn't show up on it's forms.
History:
Sceadu's history starts with a man who wished to defy Death itself.
With the knowledge immortality was beyond his grasp by normal means, that he had neither the power, money or destiny to grant him what he wished the man decided he would do that which his power and money could get him. He would finance and facilitate those who others had objectified, ignored, trod upon and degraded and take them under his wing with promises and false hope so long as they agreed to help him with his endeavors. The man wanted to defy Death itself and these bodies would help him do as such.
So with time and money the man gathered to him the best his long grasping reach could get and put together a team of those who could create the solution to his problems. With much disagreement, fighting and complaints it was finally agreed that it was not to be a potion, a spell or an event that would be required to stave off Death but a thing, a 'living' thing.
A Reaper of mortal design able to fight Death itself.
With an agreement reached and the years draining away the man threw more of his personal finances and things behind the project, put as much of his influence into effect as possible to get things moving quicker. To have the creature created; ready to fight for him against Death when the day arrived that it would come for his soul.
So with a mixture of alchemy and magic Sceadu was created, from remnants of things unspoken of, from magic long dead, pulled together from the darkest reaches of existence and put together into a guise of mortal making.
It took long months for Sceadu's full form to emerge, for the shadows that enraptured it's form to find a shape they would stick with, stay as a part of long enough to create a single entity. The leading alchemist, a woman of disrepute for her unethical dealings took control of the process, helped it speed up to the point where Sceadu was finally fully formed and was ready to be pulled out of the nothing and into true existence, to have it's conscious brought to life.
Life.
Sceadu's world started tiny and slowly grew.
First was the tank, a barrier of glass and runes that held it's ever shifting mass until it chose it's form.
Next was the confinement spells masked upon the ground for meters around the tank that became it's resting place.
The spells of Binding that measured around the room of it's creation were for it's first year all that Sceadu knew.
A world of four walls, a ceiling and roof.. bodies that occasionally drifted in and out, some of importance others of not. Young, unknowing of purpose of reason for it's existence Sceadu did as it was instructed by the alchemist woman with her two ancient tomes. The books that bespelled the world that Sceadu lived within.
Another body of importance that Sceadu found within it's world was a young magician of insignificant power who shared something special with the Reaper, a connection on a deeper level forged from something unknown. There was comfort for Sceadu in this body that gave it's existence a name and pleasant things to think upon to counter balance the pain and discomfort of the alchemist woman.
Things changed suddenly when the man who had been watching, observing his creation's existence, realized his life was to cut much shorter than he had believed, that Sceadu would be needed ready much earlier than the alchemist was saying would be possible. This would not do, and with other opinions at the forefront as well as his own the man chose to take Sceadu from the woman's care and place it within another's, another who would do his bidding in a more agreeable manner.
Taken from a position of influence, out of the loop in relation to her ultimate work, the woman took on a fury that none could stand before. She would not just lay down and give in to the man who had promised so much and was now retracting upon his words. No, she would make him pay. If she could not have control of the creature, her creation then none should.
With death in mind the alchemist went within Sceadu's world with her two tomes of alchemy and magics to destroy what she had helped to create.
Existence splintering, Sceadu fought as best it could to retain the little life it had known and in a moment's slippage of control by the alchemist the Reaper found true freedom. Freedom that broke the bounds that had once held the real world beyond Sceadu's grasp. With the darkness calling Sceadu reached out and did as it's being screamed to do.
Claws grasping from depths unreachable but by those of the shade, Sceadu ripped asunder the woman from mortal flesh to spirit's soul until there was nothing for anything to find of her within this plane or any other. With the real world's darkness flowing through it's being Sceadu acted on it's fury, frustration and freedom and exercised it's abilities to their full extent as the night wore on.
With the coming of a new day, strength waning until gone, Sceadu dissipated, scattered into a million different parts and places within the dying shadows of the morning.
A week later and Sceadu awoke once more to a world of silence and sensations unknown, it's place in things shattered with what it saw and sensed before it. No longer was the world confined to four walls, a roof and floor. Now there was something out past what once had been barriers.. a noisy darkness that called seductively.
It was some time after awakening before Sceadu gathered the courage to actually get up and move, to go beyond the confines that had defined it's world for so long. It was the whisperings of that beyond it's grasp that finally got to it and made Sceadu investigate. For all it's existence Sceadu had not had experience of the world beyond, of all the things that should of naturally been calling to it. No, with the spells of confinement and the alchemist methods there had always been barriers to keep Sceadu from realizing so many things.
Now though, with the barriers broken beyond repair and the world before it Sceadu went forth to embrace these new things, to find out what the whispers in the darkness really meant.
The first few weeks of being 'free' were great learning curves for Sceadu. So very many things it had not realized or even thought to think of were shoved in it's face. So much so that for some time Sceadu could neither make heads nor tails of anything that was going on.
A main point of interest between it's release into the world and now would have to be Sceadu's discovery of humans beyond those that had 'mysteriously' disappeared from the compound Sceadu had been created in. Humans and well, living creatures in general have an inherent fear of Sceadu for the simple reason that Sceadu embodies Death and well, no sane creature enjoys the close proximity of Death.
And well, with all the horrible creatures out there ready to kill you, something that feels and looks like Sceadu was not something any wished to encounter and thusly nothing but hostility was ever shown to it when Sceadu made effort to show itself. Somewhat of an irritation really as Sceadu knew that it knows so very little and that other living creatures could teach it things as those who had worked with it within it's confinement had.
The turning point for this was when Sceadu found itself on the outskirts of a sizeable town watching a circus of sorts setting up. Finding all the hubbub to be quite interesting and seeing as they had an outdoor setup Sceadu was able to watch the performances. All of them were actually quite substandard but as Sceadu had never seen anything of the like it found them all to be fascinating. Most of all when a magician cast simple glamouries on some of the audience participants. Well now, that was a good trick.
So with this new found knowledge that appearances can be changed Sceadu set about figuring out how best it could try such endeavors. At first Sceadu stuck to simply duplicating those it saw, to make picture perfect replicas of those it sought to great. These appearances tended to backfire horrendously and after the first half dozen attempts Sceadu gave up on them. Trying faces that were of local orientation but not actually those it was meeting at the point didn't work too well either. It was assumed Sceadu was the same person as the persona it was appearing as and well, trouble always seemed to follow.
It was only with much practice and thought that Sceadu finally came up with a mish-mashed appearance of those it had seen that it liked itself that these troubles of interacting with people seemed to subside. Of course there were still minor issues. Sceadu discovered early on that male and females were allowed to different places with different discrepancies and that well, it was best to be a certain sex in certain places at certain times.
So Sceadu got it's K and J personas, named after the sounds it liked.
Skills:
Shadowform: Sceadu is literally made of shadows and thusly doesn't as standard have much in the way of a physical form. Being able to interact with things is something Sceadu has to put effort into and it really needs to be something it wants to do for it to happen. Touching things, picking them up, creating a solid surface that others don't just pass through all require Sceadu to concentrate it's form into very dense shadow to the point it does become something solid. As this takes a lot of effort Sceadu is inclined to do this only when it really has to. Keeping itself solid only to the point of not being seen through unless under strong lighting.
Another aspect of Sceadu's Shadowform is that as with the 'physical aspects' Sceadu is not always a solid form in appearance. Under harsh or unexpected light Sceadu fades, becoming varying degrees of transparency, from solid black to a gauzy haze. Such occurrences effect how it can interact with things. Sceadu needs to be in a fairly solid shadow form to be able to become physical in relation to other things, otherwise no matter how hard it tries it will continue to just pass through them.
Last part of Sceadu's form to go along with it's ever changing consistency is that Sceadu can take on the appearance of others and things if it so chooses to. Because colours come from the adding of light to things Sceadu is able to manipulate it's form so that the reverse happens and by taking away certain shadows of darkness it can take on the appearance of colours. So adding that to the fact Sceadu can change it's shape as really, it's form is completely morphable, it can look just like anyone or thing it wants to. Limitations being that it has to keep the amount of shadows it's actually made up of and that lighter colours take a lot more effort to sustain over long periods with any strong consistency through them. For the most part Sceadu only uses it's male/female human counterparts forms, as it's worked out as far as need be that these two shapes work best for interacting with the 'sentient' life here and about.
Shadow Play: As a creature made of shadows and magic, Sceadu is able to manipulate and interact with shadows unlike most others, even those with a close affinity to the darker sides of things. For one Sceadu hears voices in the darkness, whispering and murmurings of half heard things that tell it all manner of things. The main issue with this is that it's garbled and Sceadu doesn't have the ability to get anything more than vague feelings and impressions from what the darkness wants with it. So most of the time it just ends up frustrated and annoyed, thrusting the voices out of it's mind to ignore for long periods of time.
Sceadu can manipulate shadows in the same way it can shift it's body in the form of mass and density created with the darkness. The ability being limited by how much in the way of shadows are actually in the vicinity already, how dark they are and how much energy it has at the time. A ten meter radius about it is about as far as things can stretch before it becomes overwhelming. As it were, with a solid dark place of this size it would be very trying for Sceadu to work it’s abilities to hold onto control of it, with it lasting little more than minutes before being overwhelmed by trying to maintain control over such a vast amount of darkness. Thusly Sceadu keeps itself limited in what it does in relation to shadow manipulating.
From this ability Sceadu is able to interact with the Dark Places. The places where the whispers in shadows come from and where when it figures how to actually use them, it can store objects and things in and to use as a gateway between one place and another. As it is, Sceadu only knows that when it pulls the darkness in to a certain point that it takes on a sensation of being endless and that reaching out to these Dark Places gives it very strange sensations it doesn't really understand and quite honestly fears. Until Sceadu can get it's books out of the Dark Places again and realize that they're not something to be scared of, any interaction with them is purely accidental and results in very little significance.
Soul Touch: This is an ability/skill that Sceadu has but doesn't know how to use very well and actually actively avoids using around the living, mostly as it's a sensation that confuses the hell out of it. Being a Reaper, Sceadu has the ability to rip souls out of well, anything that has one really and do oh so many lovely things with them. Well, it should be able to, but not actually knowing it is a Reaper means Sceadu doesn't do more than have idle thoughts now and then of such themes. Anyways, the extent of the abilities it does know is that when it does come into physical contact of those with a soul that there's a tug deep down within itself that is felt by both Sceadu and the one it comes into contact with. It's a darkness that tugs at the soul, that grabs at the spiderweb that is the spirit within the living being, a hint of death, while on Sceadu's end it's an exhilaration like nothing else it experiences on a day to day basis. The feeling scares the crap out of Sceadu as it doesn't understand it, the how and why, thusly it hasn't made effort of exploring what this touch actually means or implies, it just know that it happens and at all possible points in time avoids contact with others so as not to go through the strange sensation. The feeling gets stronger the longer/more full on the contact is between the two. If someone were to step through Sceadu it would essentially be like having death wash over you and really, not exactly a fun experience.
Equipment:
Sceadu has two books of Alchemy and the dark arts of magic and death that it can neither read or understand in any manner hidden away within the Dark Places from when it attacked and killed the woman who created it. The books are filled with spells and recipes of all different ilk, though mostly related to death magics and Death itself, there's also binding spells and potions, summonings and a whole host of nasty things contained within. There's also some theorized history of Death and the concept behind creating something like Sceadu.
And if I've done something off here I'll fix it up later >> Hope it's okay.
