Name: Adelia Dike Veritas
Known as: Adelia
Alignment: Somewhere between True and Chaotic Neutral
Race: Human
Class: Flame Haze
Age: 21
Apparent Age: 19-21
Height: 5’-4”
Weight: 115 Lbs
Place of Birth: Discord City - Another World
Physical Description: Piercing ruby eyes and long hair to match set Adelia apart from many of the “normal” looking people in Knife’s Edge. Her hair is tied back in twin ponytails set high on her head and reaches to her knees, but the way she moves keeps her hair out of her way for the most part. Rather short and small, she is easily overlooked, something that has helped keep her alive in the massive city. She wears a long white short-sleeved trench coat with a moderate red border that runs along the entire length of the edges. Tattooed on her left forearm is a dragon, and on the back of her long coat is a Celtic cross pattern that marks her family. In her right hand is the black sheath of her katana that she never parts with, a rather unornamented simple thing despite the lethality she uses it with. <Image here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/tiger80272/245.jpg).>
Personality: Do yourself a favor and stay on her good side. When she isn't mad, she doesn't care about many things and is generally nice to be around, but getting on her bad side is a death sentence. Losing almost all of her memories and skills has had a slight pacifying effect on her personality, but there is something that she can feel just underneath the surface of her mind that longs to be released.
Combat Experience: Average: she knows her way around a blade and can use hers effectively.
Equipment:
Tempered katana with reinforced sheath: A normal steel katana tempered to withstand forces that would dull or crack a normal blade. The sheath is reinforced to the point where she can use it as a weapon in conjunction with her blade.
Abilities:
Fire Manipulation: Adelia can create and manipulate flames in a few forms.
Fireball: Everybody’s favorite attack, especially when it’s six inches wide and travels about as fast as a baseball pitch. Depending on the situation, this simple fireball can take on a variety of attributes, but only one at a time.
Impact burn - After impact, it continues to burn for three seconds before fizzling out.
Explode - After striking a target, it explodes in a fiery burst.
Manipulate - It can be manipulated mid-flight for greater accuracy.
Lamp: As simple as lighting a campfire or a floating flame to light the way, this is not really useful in combat except to conveniently dispel magical darkness.
Flame sword: Simply put, both her sword and sheath burst into flames. These flames only cause mild burns.
Flame Shield: An insubstantial wall of flames that springs up when a projectile threatens her. It only intercepts magical projectile attacks, using intense concentrated flames to consume an attack. Only one projectile per round can be blocked, and larger attacks can only be slowed slightly.
Wall-running: She can use her environment to her advantage, running along walls for up to twenty feet at a time. Leaving the wall and jumping to a different wall resets the distance.
Red Dragon Scales: Because of her infusion, she can coat her arms and legs in red dragon scales. These scales resist slashing and piercing strikes like leather armor, but they are vulnerable to bludgeoning strikes. They also resist flames, but are very vulnerable to ice.
History:
Just as there are many worlds in the universe, there are also many variations of the universe. Adelia was born in one of these variations on a world plagued with demons, undead, and other less-than-natural beings. The sole daughter of two humans in one of the worst cities known as “Discord City”, her caring parents tried to raise her to be strong and keep her innocent, but that kind of life was an impossibility in the evil city. When Adelia turned six, a particularly high-ranking leader of the city sent a messenger to the small household on the rumor that there was someone with a unique talent there. Her parents knew of their daughter’s gift, but they also knew what they wanted to keep her from. Denying the allegation that their daughter was anything but normal, they tried to convince the messenger that the rumors were false.
When the young girl came out of hiding to see what her parents were arguing about with a strange man, the messenger smiled a toothy grin and whisked her away before either parent could even form a thought to tell her to run. For their “sacrifice”, a special ward was placed around their house such that no demons could enter without turning weaker than mortals. Adelia, however, was not so fortunate. Her abilities came in the realm of manipulating flames, and seeing how the particular master that found her was the “Deity of Flame”, she underwent an infusion of his blood into her veins to increase her abilities a hundredfold.
Part of the infusion erased her memories, both because Alastor felt she had no need of connections to her past and because a loyal servant such as she was going to be could only be formed from a blank slate. He personally trained her for twelve years in a palace that drifted through the sky to be his perfect warrior. Absolutely obedient, the now-grown Adelia was mere days away from her first real battle against another of the city’s lords when something strange happened. A battle was being waged far below the floating palace, and the interaction between the different magics was creating an instability in the fabric of reality. Bestowed with Alastor’s amulet to further amplify her abilities, she decided on her own to join the battle in the streets.
The clouds concealing the palace parted as she descended upon the city, wings of flame carrying her form straighter than an arrow toward the heart of the melee. Sword and sheath ignited in her hands when she landed, the speed and power of her descent causing an earth-rattling explosion. The few warriors in her immediate vicinity that managed to survive the initial blast quickly found themselves lying in ever-growing pools of blood… their own blood. The stench of burning flesh quickly spread as her blade found more and more victims, not caring which side her next target belonged to. In half an hour, the streets of the previously battle-mad quarter were as silent as only the dead could be. Only one figure could be seen still moving: a woman with hair and eyes the color of flames. She was not unscathed, but she was certainly not one of the dying.
That was the last memory she had before the rising instability collapsed the fabric of time and reality around her, throwing her into an abyss and eventually dropping her in an alien city on another world. When she woke up, she was in a hospital, bandaged expertly from head to toe, staring at a friendly face.
“So, sleeping beauty awakens.” The nurse said with a smile. Adelia could only close her eyes and wonder where exactly where she was.
“How long was I asleep?” She asked quizzically.
“Only a few days. The city watch found you after they watched you fall from what looked to be a hole in the sky. They thought you were dead from how battered you were, but it looks like you’re still alive.”
City watch? Since when did the city watch bring someone dying to the hospital? They normally just killed them off… especially if they were human like her.
“Where am I?”
The nurse only smiled a little more at the question.
“This is Knife’s Edge.”
“What… where in the world am I?”
“You’re in the capital of Savar on the main continent.”
“Where is my sword?”
“It’s in the guardhouse. You shouldn’t have any problem getting it back since you’re still the talk of the town. Oh, what’s your name?”
“I… it’s… I…”
How could she not remember her own name? As she sat up from the bed, a strange sensation washed over her. It was like she was walking through clouds, unable to see anything until a light drew her toward it. The light was the amulet that still hung from her neck and the giant ruby set in the center of the oval swirled with golden rays despite being mostly in shadow. Three words came to her as she held the necklace in her hand.
“Adelia… Dike… Veritas…”
“Well then, Miss Adelia Veritas, if you are feeling well enough to walk, I won’t be keeping you here any longer.”
Nodding to the helpful nurse, the outlander slowly made her way out of the maze-like building and followed hastily-written directions to the guardhouse. A few hours later, she was on her way out of the city with her blade in-hand. The hours before were composed of a thousand questions, mostly people asking who she was, where she was from, and how she came to fall out of a hole in the sky. To these questions, she could only answer, “I don’t know…”
