Gavius
03-25-07, 02:27 PM
Name: Gavius Detilmor
Age: 28
Race: Human
Hair Color: Dark brown, practically black
Eye Color: A brown similar to the tint of his hair
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 189lbs
Occupation: Healer
Personality: Kind and patient, Gavius becomes fully devoted to whatever cause strikes him as important at the time. While this can be seen as a positive character trait, it his also his most visible weakness. His devotion to a cause can become so great that it often times places the lives of others as well as his own at risk. However, when not over-zealous about one thing or another, he is a mostly level-headed individual. Favoring the back of the party when adventuring, he prefers to keep himself out of harms way, though he's known to be rather decent with the one-handed mace he keeps with him. Violence is often a solution that Gavius tends to stray away from, and as such he has developed strong social skills that make him a persuasive diplomat.
As with most of his ilk, Gavius is rather distrusting towards dark magical forces, such as possessed weaponry and necromancy. Such distrust has lead to his desire to seek out dark artifacts and destroy them, ridding the world of their seductive power one relic at a time. This has made him rather well traveled and allows him to understand the basic needs of an adventurer.
Appearance: Gavius' garb consists of simple tattered leather that has seen much better days. Dark bruises and cuts lace it's frame and hint at journeys of the past. Pleasant to look at, the healer's face seems to be stuck in a constant state of calm; his eyes droop slightly lazily and he usually dawns a boyish, warm smile that may often hide his true dislike of a situation. His ruddy brown hair is a bit wavy, trimmed so that it is not so long as to disturb his vision, though long enough that it brushes his eyebrows. His eyes are radiant and brown, though are slightly offset by his thin nose.
History: Born of a simple woman whose husband had abandoned her in search of a better life, Gavius grew up not knowing the fears of the real world. He lived simply and freely in Corone, his small village thrust away from Radasanth so that he had not been tempted to take up a life of adventure like his father. Time passed so quickly during those times, when he knew nothing of hatred or fear; knew nothing of how brutal demons and monsters could be. Those times made him feel as if there was no "real world," there was only the bubble that he had been confined to.
But he had sought more. His mother had allowed him to read books, though only those with pleasant, happy endings, ones that would not reveal the truth of Althanas. He had been shielded, and felt as though there was something missing. Gavius was a clever boy- if the world really was so perfect, then where was his father? Where was the figure that would teach him to fish or take him hunting? Such things made his mother sob, and as such, he knew not to mention more than but a few words regarding his father.
Of course, reality has a way of blindsiding us and teaching us that it is impossible to be shielded from the horrors of the real world.
When Gavius was of the age of 17, he began to talk more freely of his father, questioning his mother more frequently. This would often times drive her from sadness into fits of anger, sometimes even threatening young Gavius. The reality of things had begun to form in his mind, and soon, they would solidify themselves once and for all. Questioning more and more frequently and more and more strongly, eventually Gavius mother could take no more. She decided within herself that if the pain of her husband leaving her would not subside, then she would have to force it away.
The next morning, Gavius awoke to the bloody corpse of his mother draped across the table of their small home. Unable to fully comprehend such a horrible sight, Gavius took flight, fearing that some one had murdered his mother in an attempt to frame him.
The image of his mother's dead body never faded from his mind's eye. He realized after he had gone into hiding that it was no murderer who had slain his mother, it was the thought of his father that drove her to madness. Gavius now saw the true reality of things, that not all life was happy and enjoyable. There are some things that people do not recover from. Within this tragic lesson, however, Gavius found hope. He found confidence and strength, realizing that while he had been able to save his mother, he was still able to save others like her.
In reading some of the books his mother had given him, Gavius had learned of a sect of Clerics who were a bit less devout. They were known simply as healers, and traveled as loners from place to place, offering their services to those in need. Gavius sought this guild and learned from them, becoming one of their brightest and most talented students. Upon his graduation, Gavius found that through all he had learned, the scars of his mother had not entirely healed. They were bearable now, however, and he knew that if his wounds were able to be healed, so would the wounds of those whom he sought to help.
Skills:
Minor Heal - The most basic of Gavius' medical abilities. This can heal a person of minor sicknesses (minor sicknesses being common colds and stomach aches) and the like, as well as cure minor cuts, bruises, and burns. This power uses very little of Gavius' holy energy, and as such may be used rather frequently (5 times per thread.)
Bandaging - Gavius carries with him a small package of bandages in which he can slow the effects of moderate wounds. Bleeding can be slowed by this and broken appendages may be wrapped as well. This serves little purpose other than to slow the effects of an injury, and may only be used so long as Gavius carries bandages.
Mace Proficiency - Gavius may wield a one-handed mace with moderate proficiency, only enough to defend himself. He knows little of attacking forms as he does not often resort to violence.
Equipment:
Tattered Leather Armor - Provides hardly any protection due to large amounts of use. May soften a blow slightly, but cannot stop it.
Mace - A simple mace made of steel that appears to be rusting slightly on the handle. The initials of the academy that Gavius trained at are engraved on the head of the mace, showing that it is academy property.
Bandages x20 - A pack of thin bandages.
