The elf sang a haunting melody that carried through the valley, passing the time with an old song he’d learned from a bard in Raiaera. His golden hair washed over his face, blocking his eyes as Madyrn stared down the grassy slope.

Karuka Tida, the human bitch, had put up a bigger fight than Madyrn was expecting. She’d summoned lightning from the sky, struck him with it, and driven the elf down from the branch of a tree. He didn’t get to violate her the way he’d wanted, but at least he’d bloodied and beaten her. A traveler had saved them both, but unfortunately for the assassin, who desired his pay, when he awoke she was gone.

The feel of lightning coursing through his body was not a pleasant one, and Madyrn knew he would not forget it soon, but until he happened upon her again, the elf needed to move on. It was not professional to dwell on a failed hunt. Certainly, he was anxious to find a new mark and make up for his failure.

It was with that purpose in mind that he gazed down the grassy pathway, a sloping pathway that led down to a village in the field. On either side of the valley were jagged, steep cliffs, and at the end more of the same. Trapped inside was his target, some noble shit who probably said the wrong thing to someone who could afford Madyrn’s services. As if a human could be considered noble – this was going to be personally enjoyable for the elf.

Still whistling his tune, on key as was typical, Madyrn made his way down the valley’s slope, sword bouncing on his hip.
