Personality: When first meeting Gwydion anyone could assume that he is a crazy old man. However, Gwydion is actually very wise and has a vast knowledge of Althanas and what lives within its borders. At times Gwydion shows a lot of compassion for his friends and even sometimes strangers. Gwydion has a very serious attitude. He doesn’t take any situation lightly and always has a good plan. Gwydion loves animals and hopes to one day be able to communicate with them. He thinks nature is a beautiful thing and none of it should be wasted. Gwydion is kind but stern. He knows rules were meant for reasons but there are times when all the rules have to be broken.
Appearance: Gwydion stands at a large height, higher than the average Althanian. He has long gray hair that ends around his shoulders. His eyes are compassionate, gray as if they were thousands of years old and contained pools of wisdom. He wears a large cloak made of scales on his back that cover up long, dark gray robes. Gwydion wears the cliché hat that many wizards wear; it has a large brim around the entire hat and has a cone shape. The brim of the hat often covers Gwydion’s face and hides it from strangers. His skin is old and wrinkled displaying an elderly age. His face is hidden behind wrinkles and large bags under his eyes. He has a wirey frame and is pretty slim. He has a medium amount of muscle defination, he wont be lifting anything over 150 lbs though. His overall appearance is of a man older than 80 but he is only 52.
Armor: None, Gwydion wears no armor only the clothing on his back.
Weapons: Long Sword.
Long Sword – An average iron long sword. The blade is about 3 feet long and the hilt adds another half foot. There is nothing special about the sword; Gwydion uses it to parry attacks. It is mostly a defensive weapon.
Skills: Basic Swordplay.
Basic Swordplay – Gwydion has basic sword skills that allow him to parry attacks and strike at an opponent. These skills are very below average because Gwydion does not have time to advance his swordplay. He spends all his available time studying his magic. Perhaps as he gains more experience he will start to improve upon his sword skills so that he can duel with the average character.
Items: Salamander Cloak, Staff, Small Book.
Salamander Cloak – Gwydion wears a long cloak over his robes made completely of scales from an assortment of different lizards. The largest and most central scale is from a dragon slain ages ago. It fell into Gwydion’s hands during the time he spent in the Red Forest searching for greater power. It had been resting under a charred corpse; obviously it didn’t protect its former owner very well. The cloak protects Gwydion from even the hottest of fires but it only blocks what hits it.
Staff – Gwydion’s staff is made of solid oak. It’s mostly used to channel his magical abilities but it can also be used as a weapon. Gwydion can easily smash something with the end of his staff. The top of the staff resembles a hand grasping what should be an orb, unfortunately there is no orb or gem where there should be. He knows that something should be there and has made it one of his personal goals to discover it. Gwydion acquired the staff in his training and plans to keep it throughout his entire life. The sentimental value of the staff is priceless in the eyes of Gwydion.
Small Book – Gwydion found this book in the Red Forest while searching for more power. It contains powerful spells that Gwydion will learn to use as he gains more experience. The book is mostly torn to pieces, as if someone didn’t want anyone to find the book. Several pages are missing and words crossed out but some of the spells can still be made out. Gwydion has already learned one spell from this book and now he carries it with him as a teacher and a good luck charm.
Magic: Gwydion has studied several different magics as he has gained power. His abilities in each are rather limited and not as powerful as he would wish. He enjoys elemental magic the most but has a soft side for bone and spirit magic. Still he is learning new magic as he gains more experience throughout the world. It is his goal to one day be able to master each of the elements he practices. With every quest and battle he takes place in he takes one step closer to his goal.
Lightning-Based Tree:
Lightning – Lightning is Gwydion’s favorite spell. It was the second skill he learned in his training and requires more amount of energy than Fire Ball but not enough to limit his abilities. He cannot continuously cast Lightning but he has the ability to use it often (normally every other post). To activate the ability Gwydion must point his sword into the air and say the words “Lightning Crashes.” A bolt of lightning will come down to the sword and Gwydion may redirect the bolt in a different direction. If he does not direct the bolt fast enough it will strike himself at a much more powerful level than it would hit his opponent.
Fire-Based Tree:
Fire Ball – Fire Ball is the first spell Gwydion learned to use while in training. This spell is probably the easiest to learn and use in the field. Gwydion only has to point his staff at something and think about using Fire Ball and it will happen. Fire Ball doesn’t take much energy at all and only requires a small amount of time to use. It is Gwydions most used spell and will remain one of his favorites throughout his life. Fire Ball is rather self explanatory, a small ball of fire erupts from Gwydion’s staff and creates a small explosion on contact sending small sparks and flames in all directions.
Spirit and Bone-based Tree:
Bone Lance – Bone Lance is a spell that Gwydion acquired in the Red Forest. While searching through the Red Forest, Gwydion found a small book with no title. Inside the book there were several pages of notes many of which were halfway ripped out. There were many pages missing completely. However a few pages remained and Gwydion began to read the things he could understand. Bone Lance is Gwydion’s most powerful spell. In order to use the spell Gwydion has to use his staff to control his magical ability and focus the spell. After the words “This lance was meant for evil” a powerful blast explodes from Gwydion’s staff sending a lance made of bone flying in the direction his staff was pointing. This spell takes a lot of energy and may only be used twice per thread.
History: Damien was born in the large city of Radasanth in Corone. He had loving parents but there was something strange about Damien. Forces out of anyone’s control began watching the young child as he grew, each year getting closer to their real plans. Several underground groups knew of his magical capabilities and at the age of 8 Damien was kidnapped. He was never seen in the real world again.
He gained a new identity when he was kidnapped. They referred to him as Gwydion and after several years of schooling and training he took the name as his own. There was nothing he could do to escape his captors because each night he was locked in a cell unable to break free. For some reason they were teaching Gwydion magic, he didn’t know that they had the intention of using him as a weapon. After 30 years of hard training and schooling and fighting he learned his first spell. He never forgot why he was there in the first place and the first chance he got he escaped from his captors. He ran as far and as fast as he could away from the headquarters of his captors. He found himself in a forest of blood.
At the age of 42 he entered the Red Forest where his life would change forever. He found himself lost for several days before stumbling upon a small book. The book was tattered and torn and in very bad condition but some of it was still readable. He learned his third spell, the powerful bone lance, from this book. He emerged from the Red Forest after what seemed like only a few days but as he walked out he aged rapidly. He could not explain the reason for this but he had actually been in the forest for 10 years. Now he searches far and wide to increase his magical ability and let his name be known throughout Althanas.
