Just a question to digest...

How do you find inspiration to write?

Is it a certain style or beat in music, a series of relevant pictures, or even any video with characters that portray similar qualities to yours? How is it that you find the desire to write and not be dissauded by the details and demands that ordinary life calls for?

In dire need of advice, but I'd also like to see the conversation develop.

Battle BGM of "Melty Blood - Act Cadenza" definitely gets me into the mood.

Just ask Asuka about that. That's what I type to in your battle with her, Nein. ;)

Although, I do believe that any uplfting music beats or songs that give the atmosphere of danger/pressure will also do. :p

I tap into the psyche of the character him/herself (mostly herself). Then I look at what I have to respond to, and find the most likely response from there.

Sometimes it's easier than others...an open post previous and a character that's easy to get into, vs a fairly closed post previous and a character that's hard to write.

And when I have to find a certain mood and I can't get into it, I have certain songs that I listen to...but it's too tame for most people. Like...currently I have Ameno by Era running on repeat. Other days it'll be Josh Groban or Within Temptation. Sometimes NightWish, but NightWish is an acquired taste.

Might as well respond, aye?

Settling into this character has been harder than others, as he's in the same situation I am. I thought it would be a good way to start in a new RPG realm, just to get my bearings before getting a bit creative. Seems instead that it's become harder, as I've no idea what to do in life myself.

Music helps though, and for Drenn?

Extremely loud bass beats.

Benny Benassi has been working for me, but the folks absolutely hate me for it.

For me, it's I guess the fact of "when I'm in the mood". Music tends to help (when I'm alone at home and able to blast it so loud the windows and various other objects on my desk are shaking). That usually clears the other sounds and thoughts out of my head to get me focused. If I had a lap top though, I would honestly just sit on the crapper and write from there because there's nothing to distract me. All there is is the 4 walls and a mirror, quite the ideal place might I add haha.

I write with an emotion in mind, but I try to disguise it. Doesn't make sense, eh? It always works, though.

That and I put myself in my character's mind, which always gives me something to write about.

How exactly do you get "into" your character's mind though. I have a hard time doing that...

Heh, for me, that's the easy part.

Let me take two of my characters...the two that are most different, Karuka and Anila.

Currently, in one of her threads, Karu is nose to muzzle with a giant feline. We're talking ha-uuuuuuuuuuuuuge. She's going to wave a fire stick in its face pretty soon. (ZOMG, spoiler! Of a not epic proportion. If things go the way I think they will.)

Anila'd be like..."Yeah...cat...fans...cat...frickin' huge cat. Bye."

You just...find that place in your mind that thinks the same way your character does and milk it for all it's worth.

I pretty much play a character that I'm in line with so I just have have to see how I'd be in the situation, of coarse part of the situation is being a fox girl mother that's also one of the best swordsmen in the world^^

As for music, I prefer not to. I find that music tends to frustrate me more if I'm having trouble writing and when I'm not then silence is golden.

one thing I suggest is throwing a twist into your plot if things stagnate and if the thread which the change happens dies then just assume the thread happened and the change happened. You can always have a thread that takes place after it where your character is getting used to the change during the adventure. Whatever you think would work, I took my twist strait out of post sharkjumping Dragonball and it worked great.

Its next to impossible for me to write without music. And by music, I mean instramentals, whether they come from anime, or videogame music. I choose the write instramental that I think will fit what I'm trying to write, and then I go to work.

I just imagine myself in their situation, what setting they're in, what should be on their mind at the time, that sort of thing. Then I apply a bit of their way of thinking to things.

I can't write without being distracted. Not that neurasthenic clowns barge into my room asking for stardust in a pill everytime I try, but that I need a distraction. Therefore, music, pictures or the cracking of a whip on repeat is enough motivation!

I use techno a lot for writing where the pace keeps picking up, like Infected Mushrooms or Beni Benassi, though I usually try to associate a character's emotions or personality traits to a type of music. So that's why I play 'Bike' when I write with a guy who sticks his fingers in electric outlets every so often!

Also, dragons. You can't write without dragons.

Instrumental FTW!

I find instrumental to be absolutely powerful when it comes to putting people "in the Mood" for writing. Songs with lyrics make you think about the meaning too much, especially if it's in a language you understand. :p

I'm surprised I hadn't really tried it before, but Bjork can be really good to listen to while writing.

Queen is pretty good too.

As well as about a thousand other band sI could mention.

Normally whenever I write, I think of what needs to be done that thread, then write it out. Works pretty well so far.
