Madyrn
05-14-07, 12:24 PM
Name: Madyrn Baelystadi
Age: 73
Race: Elf
Hair Color: Golden
Eye Color: Golden
Gender: Male
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 130 lbs
Occupation: Assassin, Thief, Mercenary.

Personality: Madyrn responds only to those he owes his brief allegiance to, and only speaks to those he needs to in order to achieve his goal. Despite his inflexible personality, he is capable of behaving in completely different manners in order to make his true persona unknown.

Appearance: Graceful even for an elf, Madyrn moves more fluidly than most could during dance, stepping lightly and swaying according to the breeze. His hair is golden like polished coins, and his eyes are precisely the same, though speckled with black for an unnatural contrast. His face is perfectly proportioned, angled acutely for high cheekbones, a small mouth and large eyes. His ears are longer and sharper than those of a typical elven male, lending him elegance and a physical charm that others may lack.

History: Madyrn was not born in an elven city, but rather in an outpost near the Black Desert, where his mother gave birth to him out of desperation during a trip from Eluriand in an attempt to cross the impassable mountains in northern Raiaera.

Fleeing from the Raiaeran authorities after multiple thefts, Madyrn’s parents could not travel quickly with her pregnant, and thus they stopped before entering the desert in order to try and force the birth. The guards at the outpost were convinced into believing she was truly in labor, and housed the two fugitives and their newborn son for a single day, before awakening to find only one of them left – the baby. Madyrn has assumed his parents to be dead.

Left without a name, the guards brought the baby to Istien University, where it was identified and its fate was discussed. Some wanted to put it up for a form of adoption, where even humans and other races could lobby for possession of it, ridding Raiaera of the son of fugitives, but it was deemed too cruel a fate for a baby. Others wanted to offer it up to the citizens of the city, which was ultimately the course of action taken.

Adopted by an elven family, Madyrn had to go to a lesser school than Istien University in the outskirts of Eluriand, due to the shady nature of his birth. Most of the students were human immigrants, and Madyrn quickly developed distaste for the smelly, common folk. As time passed Madyrn showed an inherent bitterness, seemingly inherited from his parents despite his never knowing them. He would fight and bicker with human children who approached him, though he showed signs of charm and the capacity for wit.

At the age of fourteen, Madyrn was permitted entrance to Istien on the condition that his adoptive parents distance themselves from him. Without them around to influence the child, it was thought that the golden haired elf could be molded into a proper male. He was trained in battle and in the way of song magic, but did not respond well to discipline, and thus was eventually expelled from study.

Madyrn made no attempt to reconnect with his guardians after being expelled from Istien University, instead leaving Eluriand altogether to travel north to the Black Desert. Here he met up with the soldier who had brought him to Eluriand in the first place, and he was recognized due to his unique hair and eyes. The two shared dinner and talked, but when the guard went to sleep, Madyrn killed him.

Taking the man’s weapons and armor, the fifteen year old traveled the desert alone to the mountain range, where his parents had fled toward when he was an infant. Having heard the truth of what occurred from the guard, Madyrn scaled the mountains for a year until he eventually emerged on the flat ground of Salvar, far south of Knife’s Edge.

He lived a chunk of his live in Salvar, moving from city to city and sometimes living in the wilderness. Madyrn was hardened by the cold, tempered like steel so that his body and heart were durable. He hunted for his own food and learned to skin and gut his own prey, cooking on weak fires in small caverns he’d use as shelter.

When he was forty, the elf left Salvar to head south, via boat, to Corone. His stay on the island was short, consisting of a single encounter with a human man who gawked too overtly at him, and subsequently was killed.

Finally he came to Scara Brae, his home for the last thirty years. The small island was a haven for the elf, who enjoyed the small forest and the hunting it provided. Not of animals, but of humans, who often carried precious gems and weapons Madyrn could pawn on the back market of Scara Brae City. He became excellent at his hunt, eventually able to set up traps so intricate that they could take out a caravan guarded by six guards.

Eventually he got wind of the Scara Scourge, likely a purposeful thing on their part, and he joined their ranks as a freelance assassin and mercenary, learning the ways of organized crime and domination. In recent years, the Scourge has dwindled and weakened, leading Madyrn to begin making a decision: Take over the Scourge, or destroy it completely, taking the remains for his own. He has yet to make that choice.

Level 1

Madyrn did little to broaden his horizons since joining the Scourge. In fact, most of what he accomplished (or tried to) was independent and had nothing to do with the organization.

First, he found a job in Scara Brae, where he was told to sabotage a fishing corporation’s main ship. John the Fisherman (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=3435) and his crew were brutally slain by the elf, who only barely was able to make his way back to shore. His reward was a small fishing ship, which he sold for a thousand gold. This solidified his reputation with the employer, and Madyrn’s fame grew.

An assassination attempt followed on Karuka Tida (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=4404), who had brought the ire of a local in Scara Brae. Madyrn failed in killing her, but had learned enough about her to know what to expect should they ever encounter one another again. He’s decided that not only will he kill her, but he will have her way with her body whether it be breathing or not.

Skills
Enhanced Senses: Madyrn has triple the hearing and visual range of a human being with peak human senses.
Weapon Fighting: Madyrn is an above average fighter with his sword and kukri, average when wielding only one.

Song Spells
Shard Storm: When sung, causes sharp blades of ice to circle Madyrn’s sword, potentially turning a miss into a painful hit. The spell lasts for a short time.
Ballad of Iron: When sung, this song enchants Madyrn’s kukri so that when desired, it can leave a trail of translucent green light behind it that is as strong as iron, and lasts for three seconds. The enchantment lasts until Madyrn uses this effect twice.
Crippling Carol: When sung, paralyzes (numbs slightly) a target’s limb for a time between one and five minutes. The limb affected is determined by Madyrn, typically.
Canticle of Domination: A song that temporarily augments Madyrn’s strength, increasing his mass and making him twice as strong as he is normally at no cost to his agility. This effect lasts for a minute.
Adumbration: When sung, Madyrn enters a state of translucence. In light, it is still possible to see his outline, but in shadows he is very much invisible. Due to the nature of the spell, Madyrn cannot attack while under the effect, which lasts for a maximum of five minutes.

Equipment
Iron Chainmail: A loose-fitting suit of chainmail that extends down Madyrn’s arms to his wrists.
Steel Saber: A long, slightly angled blade perfect for finding passages between ribs.
Steel Kukri: A curved dagger longer than a knife, but shorter than a sword.

A bit much for a level one character. I have to ask you to make several edits before I can approve this.

Make it so that the Canticle of Domination gives him double strength. Also, Crippling Carol seems a bit absolute. I mean, if you cripple someone's leg in combat, they are pretty much done for. For now, maybe make it so it makes the limb sluggish or something along those lines.

I put (numbs slightly) next to paralyze to clarify that it doesn't outright cripple the limb.

The strength is changed to double.

Then you're good to go. You are approved! Keep up the good work.
