...But on the contrary, that which is stolen cannot be yours."

Name: Kenshin Haruzame
Age: 19 Years old
Gender: Male
Race: Human - Akashiman
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Deep Brown
Height: 5 feet 11 inches
Weight: 155 lbs.
Occupation: Thief (for hire)

Appearance:

This young thief is often seen wearing casual, baggy clothes that looked about two sizes too large. Wearing his raven black hair in a long, loose ponytail and constantly with a nonchalant smile, Kenshin appeared more attentive than what his outward appearance would suggest.

Kenshin typically wears a deep-blue cotton jacket that folds over the front of his body and tied with a black sash. Underneath jacket he wears a soiled white shirt, the jacket usually bulging from the little carnivore the thief keeps inside his clothing. He wears his baggy black pants with cloth straps wrapping his pant legs tight around his lower leg. Wearing soft cloth mocassins, dyed deep blue with rubber-lined sole, he can move around comfortably without causing much noise.

Personality:

Laid back and nonchalance best describes this thief-for-hire when he is on the prowl or during one of his jobs. However, the teen is always deep in thought when he is alone and constantly questioning his life, wondering about the consequences of the path he took. He has a soft-spot for one of the maids in service to an Akashiman House, whom he made frequent trips to whenever he had the chance to stay in the kingdom.

He is not known for his anger, but can really explode when his emotions are not kept in check.

Above all, he values the right for people to live and looks upon mercy-killing with disdain.

Weapons:

Kodachi: A short, curved sword with a single cutting edge. The blade is 2.75 feet long, bringing the entire length of the sword to 3 feet long. The tempered steel blade was forged by the late Murakama Kashihiro, the Akashiman Smith of the Sword and bears the dragon motif along the blade. The lacquered oak saya is stained black with natural woodbark dye.

Abilities:

Free-Running: The kid had self-trained himself in acrobatic maneuvers, mostly for escaping pursuers after a snatch-and-run through the busy markets and alleyway. He is not very fast, but can easily escape most of the fat, slow merchants.

Shinobi-iri: The art of Infiltration. Kenshin often had to break into homes and stores in order to obtain the items he was hired to steal. The "kid" is still not very good at this and often times would find himself being chased down the alleyway by the guards. He makes up for his less-than-perfect techniques with Free-Running in the escape.

Kenjutsu: Self-trained through practice and engaging in skirmishes between the different competing gangsters and street fighters, Kenshin was able to grasp the concept of using the short blade as a shield against other bladed weapons as well as using it as it was intended. However, because of the lack of power due to the shorter blade, Kenshin is at a disadvantage in both striking power and reach. He is also an amateur at best and a skilled fighter can take him down easily.

Knife-throwing: Kenshin often makes use of small knives as throwing knives to make up for his range disadvantage. However, his accuracy and precision is something to be wanting. He could hit a target easily at around 5 yards, provided that the target is as large as a full-grown man and is standing still. Beyond that, it is a really hit-or-miss ordeal. His left hand throw is even worse.

Skills:

Shukuchi: As the name "Reduced Earth" implies, Kenshin applies this technique to quickly approach and enemy or a target within a very short time. Because of the very fast movement, Kenchin almost appears invisible saved for any debris he would kick up in the wake, be it grass, leaves or even dust. However, because the technique is very draining, Kenshin has a hard time using this more than once every day (IC) and can only travel as far as 10 yards in a single second. Terrain is also one of the major hindrance, as he would need good solid ground for maximum effect.

Equipments:

Throwing Knives: Small triangular knives made of iron and kept sharpened for good reason. Kenshin keeps them hidden in a small belt inside his jacket where he can access them quicky without accidentally injuring his pet. He currently has 5 on him. As they are rather hard to make, Kenshin would often have trouble with buying them and had to retrieve the blades after using them.

Smoke Bombs: Small clay balls packed with combustibles and a flint igniter, capable of unleashing a smoke screen within a small area. He currently has 5 in a small leather pouch on his belt.

Familiar:

Misao: Misao is Kenshin's little albino ferret he found while travelling through North Akashima. She is a young ferret with snow-white fur and very high curiousity. She gladly responds to her master and helps with infiltration and retrieval, though most of the times she typically naps inside his baggy jacket. She is quite small for an animal her age, but her agility more than makes up for her lack of power. Sharp teeth and claws are about the only defenses the little thing had

History:

Born to a merchant family in Eastern Akashima, Kenshin was a hard-working boy from the day he was able to start walking. Or rather, he was put straight to work as soon as he was able to walk a few feet without tripping on his own legs carrying groceries and filling the shelves insided the store. Things were fine and his family lived in relative peace until his mother fell ill. Soon after, his father fell into depression and subsequently stopped caring for his store. While his other brothers and sisters tried their best to keep the store running, Kenshin felt this was not the life he wanted.

The boy, then still at a young age of 15, stopped working at the store and travelled all over Akashima looking for adventure and exciting things to do. He became entangled with a group of thieves who only stole from the wealthy but conceited, redistributing the wealth back to the people in need. The band of noble thieves were soon spoken of as the Kamaitachi, the wily thieves who swept in as quickly as the wind.

And one fateful day, everything happened.

"W- Wait a minute!"

It was an operation like the one they had always done - Rob the Rich, Feed the Poor. The group ambushed a small caravan owned by the House overseeing Western Akashima with the knowledge that it held a supply of grain heading for the Capital. However, as the band of noble thieves surrounded the wagons, Kenshin realized somoething was wrong.

"Take no prisoners, boys. Those greedy pigs will feel the pain they have done to us!"

Takemura was the squad captain of the operation and also one of the senior members who held a deep grudge against the House of the West, for reasons unknown to Kenshin. Out of the three wagons captured by the Band, only one had the supply of grain - three bags in total.

"What are you doing this for, Niisan?! I thought we came here for the grain!" Kenshin shouted as the maids and a butler were rounded up, bound and gagged with the squad leader unsheathing his icy blade against the cloudless night sky.

"Shut up, brat! This has nothing to do with you." The older man snapped, "I have a score to settle with this House."

Kenshin would not allow it.

"Hey, this isn't how we do things! We only take what we need and do no harm to anyone unless they fight back! How could you justifty your actions like this?!"

The other gang members glanced at each other nervously, wondering about what to do next.

Takemura said nothing in return. Instead, he drew back his blade and swung it at one of the maid.

Klang!

The icy ring of steel echoed through the dead of night, gasps of terror crying out from the imprisoned servants.

"This entire operation isn't about the grain, is it?"

Kenshin glared into his superior's angry eyes, their blades locked against each other in front of the young red-hair maid kneeling on the dusty road.

The older man growled furiously, only to pull away and return his sword to the sheath. Muttering angrily as he departed, the band of thieves untied the captives and apologized for their rash intrusion.

"Thank you for saving my life, sir."

The young maid smiled at Kenshin as the others helped load the bags of grain back onto the wagons. Her hair was a cheery bright red, even in the dim glow of the darkening dusk.

"Eh, hey, it's nothing. I'm sorry for the rudenes earlier... he he..."

"Still... I am forever in your debt. My name is Kirisawa Kohaku."

Kenshin jumped at the mention of her name.

"I... I'm Kenshin." He meekly replied, his face growing hot by the second.

"It's nice to meet you, Kenshin-san. I do hope we will meet again in better circumstances. Thank you again."

"Y... yeah. Bye."

Even as months had passed since their first encounter, Kenshin continually visited the Estate to see Kohaku whenever she was free. It was also then that Kenshin decided to leave the gang of noble thieves to pursue his own destiny, thanking the Leader once more for giving him the Kodachi he now wields and for taking him in all those years.

"Ey~ No probs. And don't worry about that idiot, Takemura. He'll be taken care of." The Leader said as Kenshin was about to leave. "And it's a good thing you stopped him, too. He would have given us a bad name."

The young thief smiled at the encouraging words, nodding in acknowledgement of their group's motto.

"Like you always told us before going on raids: It's forgivable to take someone else's stuff, but never alright to take away someone's a life."

Kenshin left the Kamaitachi and ventured off on his own, stealing only what was necessary to live unless he had enough to pay. On occasions he would be hired to steal things for a price, but the thief vowed never to steal from the poor or kill a single soul.

Just don't go taking any cheap one-strike-one-kill shots with Shukuchi every time you use it and you'll be fine.

You are approved! Once again, welcome to Althanas.
