Name: Titus Malthair
Age: 23
Race: Human
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 162 lbs.
Occupation: Engineer

Personality:
Animated, yet grounded in common sense and good reason... partially, anyways. Titus is a friendly sort, and can become rather animated when he's excited or discussing topics related to his field of expertise, but he takes great pains to remain true to the tenets of the Brotherhood of Shapers, which calls for all its devotees to remain in control of their emotions. However, there's a great difference between remaining true to a code, and having to constantly drag oneself back to the state of being true. Having never been outside his home country, Titus can be rather curious and inquisitive about things that seem totally commonplace in the rest of Althanas. Occasionally, his curiosity can get him into trouble.

Appearance:
A handsome fellow of average build, unassuming and unimpressive in just about every physical sense. However, it's his deep blue eyes that are the one starkly intruiging thing about Titus's appearance: they seem to shimmer with wit and intelligence, as if they're beings fully sentient and independent of the skull which contains them. Titus is usually to be found in utilitiarian clothes, consisting of weathered leathers and homespun cloth.

History:
Titus Malthair is a subject of the nation of Feldan, a small, enigmatic island nation far removed from the other lands of Althanas. It has survived all this while for two reasons: first, its borders are protected by strange but powerful devices that ere have turned fleets intent upon conquest; and second, its people possess knowledge enough of the sciences and of magic to turn away those threats beyond the mundane.

It is here that Titus was born, the son of the renowned engineer Vectarian. Vectarian taught the young boy everything he knew of science and logic, and so Titus grew in knowledge and wisdom as he became a man. However, at the age of adulthood, he began to manifest the signs of magical prowess. Unlike in other lands, though, this rise to power was not marked by the sudden ability to sling fireballs or summon demons; rather, it was marked by the typical signs for youth of Feldan who came into eldritch wisdom.

Things around him began to change. Simple things, at first. The air around Titus seemed lighter, easier to breathe. Food would change color in the intervening time between plate and mouth. But as time went on, the changes became more pronounced, more unpredictable. That air which was just a moment ago light and salubrious could become heavy as iron in an instant. Simple changes to physicality such as color and shape became more wild. Matter mutated wildly in Titus's presence, or simply ceased to be.

Luckily, the people of Feldan knew to take this in stride. In fact, Vectarian had never been more proud of his son, for Titus now showed the signs of potential to be a powerful type of wizard... a Namer.

Titus was instantly inducted into the finest school of engineering and Naming in the island nation, an institution run by a guild known as the Brotherhood of Shapers, which monitored schooling and Naming in Feldan. He was schooled in mathematics, physics, astronomy and a dozen other sciences, but most importantly, he was taught to control and shape the Naming magic that flowed through him. When his schooling was finally complete, Titus was held up as one of the most promising Namers of his time.

Before he could take his place as a prominent figure in Feldan, however, he was required to complete a Walkabout, a rite of passing for Namers. According to the tenets of the Walkabout, Titus is required to leave Feldan and travel the world, searching for inspiration and guidance. He may return only when he has experienced a profound revelation that will define his life and future.

Skills:
Swordplay- Average skill with swords and daggers.
Marksmanship- Average skill with crossbows.
Engineering- Exceptional skill in mathematics, physics, and other hard sciences. Titus can formulate solutions to related real-world problems on the fly, and almost instantaneously.
Invention- Above-average skill in inventing, developing and building new devices. Whatever the means used to power Titus's fancy- steamworks, clockwork, alchemical reactions, or magic most eldritch- it can be largely assumed that the machine in question will begin breaking the laws of Nature the instant it's activated. However, such machines can be unreliable, operating as they do on theory and guesswork, and thus may not perform exactly as intended.
Naming- Average skill. A strange and relatively unknown branch of magic. Unlike other disciplines, which create matter ex nihilo (out of nothing), this school of magic allows the user to change and alter the qualities of existing matter, such as density, mass, integrity, and other tangible physical properties. As a simple example, a skilled practitioner could alter a heavy stack of books and make them light as a feather to carry, or alter the mass of a foe's clothing to the point that they are struggling under the weight of their own shirt. Armed with cunning and quick thinking, a Namer can be a very dangerous enemy, indeed.

Equipment:
Steel Longsword
Redwood Crossbow w/ quiver of redwood bolts
Machinist's tools
Steel Crowbar
Small pulley block
Rope
Several battered journals, filled with mathematics and physics equations

Familiar:
Achnerode, a small mechanical construct. No larger than an apple or a pear. Roughly human-shaped, though of squat build, and his head is slightly large and dominated by two bulbous yellow eyes. It speaks a language of clicks and clangs that only Titus seems to understand. In addition to being a friendly companion, Achnerode is skilled in fine, delicate mechanical operations, and features an integrated array of tinker's tools.

[My first character. Hope it passes muster!]

I'm going to allow exceptional Engineering because it's basically just knowledge, but exceptional Invention sounds a bit dangerous. For all I know, Titus can make a nuclear bomb and blow us all to hell at level zero. I have to ask you to either lower his skill or somehow limit what he can do with his invention. We don't want him to go around and make miniguns and whatnot. Maybe, at this point, his inventions shouldn't always work the way he wants or something.

Also, while I don't mind Naming being rather vague (since it's applicable to a lot of things), "most highly-skilled" is something I can't allow. You'll have to make him rather average in this particular branch of wizardry for now.

And one last thing. Please clarify on the material of your weapons. The sword and the crowbar can be steel, and crossbow and bolts can be made of any real world wood.

Alright, changes made. Sorry, didn't realize item materials was critical.

"One of the most skilled... in twenty years" is still too powerful for Naming. I don't know how many Namers exit the training school, but I figure there are quite a few in twenty years. Being on top of that class is too strong for level zero. Unless you can give me an example of what exactly can Titus do at the current time, I'm going to have to ask you to specifically say that he is average in Naming.
