Burly Knuckles
06-23-07, 02:04 PM
Name: Paj Hysh'kra
Age: 23
Height: 5' 2"
Weight: 165 lb.
Race: In’wehtos - Human
Area of Origin: R'uuya Spicefields, Fallien
Occupation: Prahna'dyuta fighter

Appearance:
Paj has deeply tanned skin and very short, black hair (appearing similar to the Earth counterpart of Persians), he is lean and fairly muscled given his occupation. He has thin, sky blue eyes, and slightly yellowing teeth.

Personality:
A man of few words, even in his native tongue, Paj is very wary of other people, and usually hostile towards women. He is stubborn, defiant, principled, and prideful- the kind that would do something foolish or dangerous just to prove a point, or prove someone else wrong. He tries to give outsiders more of a benefit of the doubt, as he knows he has communication problems with them and needs patience. In battle, he will do everything he can to win, and if there are rules he will try to skirt the edge of them if he can.
In Fallien, he is particularly introverted, as he is often met with a harsh reaction, getting verbal mockery and accosting, especially by others in the Prahna'dyuta. While he is not banned from it or considered a fugitive, he is still looked down upon.
Also, he is becoming a regular user of niphena, bordering on the start of an addiction.

History:
Imagine growing up in chains, servitude and bondage being the only thing you can remember, even back to your childhood. That's what Paj knows. Sold before he can remember, he was raised by Lehla Hadaj, a rich In'wehtos woman who held the minor title of Rani. She had a love of many things, and combat was among her highest. Paj was one of several boys raised by the Rani as slaves, each being trained in martial prowess. Prahna'dyuta has been around for a while, it's only been recently that it has been open to outsiders. But among the Fallien, fighters like Paj have been competing for years for the entertainment of the masses. While the Fallien only acknowledge their champions now, there are many like Paj who have fought and are skilled as well; often times these fighters are used to spar with outsiders or train them in preparation for the Prahna'dyuta matches with the champions.

Paj is somewhat artistic, and has had a knack for sculpting since he was young. Often times, when in his holding yard- an outdoor pen for slaves- he would find old bones, and use sharp bone fragments to carve the others he would find. The Rani noticed this talent, and would allow the young man carving tools in the pen: it kept him occupied and from starting any trouble, and often she could sell the trinkets he would make. He even made his first pair of knuckledusters from the husk of a large scorpion's molt. It wasn't very effective, but it gave him a weapon he could use to compete in Vajramushti matches for the competition. He fought his way through the lowest tier of fighters, earning many Kiramaini bead strands; but being a slave the spoils and the recognition went to his owner instead of him. In a larger spectacle, Paj was pit in a match against a fearsome beast: a giant beetle. While not as large or as fierce as giant scorpions, the beetle is still deadly and Paj barely survived the encounter.

Though Paj was severely wounded in the battle, he had come out victorious, which earned many rewards for the Rani. She had begun gambling on him, and was pulling in both money and the sacred Kiramaini glass. Along with the success of some of her other slaves, she was garnering a reputation as a good "breeder of fighters". For his last performance, Paj was allowed a portion of the defeated beetle's body. During the weeks of his convalescence, he put his skill at carving to use and molded the thoracic shell into an arm guard, then pierced the two pinsers through the end, making a two clawed weapon similar to patas. He found that he could encorporate the weapon into his Vajramushti techniques, and sought to use it at his next competitive match. However, when he entered the arena, he was disqualified from the fight; it was deemed that the drojpata differed from the knuckledusters too much and would be considered an disallowed weapon.

The Rani was furious. She had already placed a sizable bet on Raj, confident in him after the fight with the beetle. The disqualification means she lost the bet, and embarassed herself in the process. That night, in a rage, she entered Raj's pen and beat him in her frustration. She lost control in her emotional state, and was bordering on causing some serious permanent damage, maybe even killing him. It's not really known how far she would have gone, but at the moment she was losing it, Paj stopped just taking the beating. He normally slinked away in obedience to his mistress, but faced with such a situation, he lashed out and attacked her. He beat her back away to defend himself, then grabbed the drojpata and used it to attack her. He lost it a bit himself, and inadvertantly disemboweled her with an ill-placed stab to the abdomen. As she was dying, he paniced and fled the pen, leaving the Rani there to die. He released the other slaves, and stole a horse, a niphena plant, and some money from the mistress.

He didn't bother stealing the sacred Kiramaini glass: it was known that the ones he had "won" belonged to the mistress, and even in death they were considered hers. Fortunately, the local court was unable to discern which of the slaves had killed the Rani (or if bandits had attacked her estate and freed the slaves), so Paj managed to avoid becoming a fugitive. Still, he is known as being a former slave; so while he has struck out on his life as a free man, he is still looked down on amongst the Fallien people.

Languages: Speaks Fallien dialect. Cannot speak Tradespeak, however has learned a few words or phrases in tradespeak, usually equated with fighting. His tradespeak vocabulary is limited to:

Attack - "Intention is to kill, even if opponent's not ready."
Citadel - "Foreign Prahna'dyuta arena. It's mentioned by outsiders."
Claw - "Drojpata"
Competition - "Prahna'dyuta"
Enemy - "The opponent in a bout.
Failure - "Death."
Fight - "A battle to the death"
Food - "Something to eat."

Quit - "Surrender. It is shameful, and meant for outsiders."
Slave - "A Warrior"
Spar - "A fight where you avoid killing. Reserved for training, children, and outsiders."
Water - "Something to drink."

Skills:
Vajra Mushti - Paj is of above average skill at this close combat art, knowing both striking, grappling, and joint lock techniques, as well as fighting with a hand pommel weapon (such as knuckledusters or his drojpata)
Boneworking - Apprentice skill in carving bone and shells, could make small, single pieces of armor (but not a suit) or small (hand sized) weapons. Can also carve small trinkets or decorative items.
Horse riding - Below average skill; Paj understand mounting/dismounting and riding basics, but sometimes has trouble controlling the horses and cannot spur them very effectively.

[B]Equipment:
Knuckleduster - A bleached, white bone knuckleduster, carved from the jawbone of a lame mare. One of the flat horse's teeth tips each of the knuckles on the outer portion
Drojpata - A black citin forearm guard which straps to the wrist and elbow. Extending from the tip (on the wrist-end are two 6-inch chitin claws. It is an exotic weapon that serves both as a shield and a claw weapon. It was personally carved by Paj from the pronotum (thorax) shell and mandibles of a giant beetle.
Armor - Paj has a leather shoulder spaulder, and a leather armor vest.
Bonecarving Tools - A small hammer, a chisel, a single-edge knife (all iron) kept in a leather pouch.
Niphena Plant - A large glass jar with R'uuyan soil and an immature Niphena plant. It has yet to blossom.
Clothing - laced sandals, rose-red cotton lungi and kurta (robes), grey linen nehru jacket, dull grey linen turban/mask.

Familiar:
Iblis - A stubborn Fallien steed, this filly is a yearling, being approx. 16 months old. She has a dark brown coat and black hair. She is comfortable with Paj, but not fully bonded to him. She has a saddle and two saddle bags, as well as a roll blanket.

(obviously, the Drojpata- while using exotic materials- would not be something Paj would sell, with it being hand crafted and the instrument of his freedom. Likewise, while the Niphena plant is a bit rare, he would not sell it either, as he is borderline to being a niphena addict.)
