Thorn entered the shop not knowing quite what to expect, he knew of magic and it power but had never tried to purchase anything like magic. Looking around he still had no idea what to expect, any one of these “things” could do, from what he had heard, any number of nasty things to him! He quickly made his way to the counter being very careful not to touch anything.

The desk looked cluttered and possibly dangerous so instead of ringing the bell he just waited, quietly.

And waited, until he coughed, not sure if it was intentionally trying to get attention or just not reacting well to the slightly dusty environment.

But had the kid not let out a startling cough, the storekeeper would not have noticed at all.

"Oh, hallo there. Didn't see ye come in, sir."

Scurrying hastily to his post, a lanky old man appeared to have sprouted from thin air with a blast of smoke and light. Standing before the youth in his sky-colored garb and cap, Elzir clearly seemed a bit too senile to be a prudent salesperson.

Stroking his silky white beard, the magician immediately went about what he was meant to do - sell stuff.

"What'll ye be needing today, sir? A trinket to charm the girls or perhaps an amulet that give you courage? Or, even, shoes that can make you run for miles! ...unless you get tired first, that is. Hehehehe..."

One would wonder who left this old man to tend the store?

As a blast of smoke and light appear Thorn cowers behind the counter his hand on his shiny new staff.

"What'll ye be needing today, sir?" he hears, and pokes his head over the counter. He could see a long white beard, it almost seamed to glow "A trinket to charm the girls or perhaps an amulet that give you courage?" the magician continued looking to the lizards head, then smiling. "Or, even, shoes that can make you run for miles! ...unless you get tired first, that is. Hehehehe..." he joked.

Thorn didn't know what to make of him. He reminded him of his grandfather, obviously not lizard but wise and a bit senile. Thorn came out from behind the counter and "I wanted some information" he said picturing his grandfather, standing next to the sales person and talking to him instead of the unusual man. "How do I learn magic? Can you teach me?" he asked his grandfather hopefully

Elzir paused as he heard the young lizardman's request, his jovial grin turning downwards almost in an instant.

"So ye want te learn magic, aye, young'un?" The old magician grimaced, eyeing the strange youth from behind his spectacles perched upon his arched nose. "And who might ye be, laddie, ta be wantin' to learn sucha dangeerous art?"

Regular customers the old man had were mostly interested in his wares. Customers who actually wanted to learn magic from him, on the other hand, had been nil for a very long time.

Still keeping a wary, albiet curious eye, on the youth, Elzir turned sideways and pretended to be brewing a potion of sort using a few nearby vials he could get his hands on.

"If ye wanta learn magic, I'd be a bit more understandin' if ye answer the question..." He paused, casting a side-long glance around the area once before resuming his inquiry, "Why?"

Taking his eyes away from where he had placed his grandfather, he looked down “my…er...my name is Thorn, Thorn Aldsmith. I need to have some adventures” he said mustering up as much courage as he could. “I’d like to learn magic so I can have better adventures” he said still looking at the floor.

Lifting his head up and looking at the magician he said blushing as he did “I mean look at you, you can do anything you want. You can make potions that do anything.” As he said this his confidence started to rise. “You can make weapons fire lightning. You can literally disappear!” He said slightly breathless.

“I want to be able to do stuff like that.” He said feeling insignificant as he did and looking at the magician with appealing eyes. “Will you train me?”

Elzir listened quietly as the youngster seemed to literally burst out of his scales, the old man's beady eyes staring intently upon him.

After a few silent nods from his snowy head, the aging magi carefully tipped on his spectacles whilst a few items around the shop started spinning in the air.

"Aye... So that's yer reasonin' to wanta learn... Magic, ye say...?"

The old man moved slowly around the counter, his greyish jacket floating away from a clotheshanger pole and gingerly slipped onto his back.

"Magic... might'a make yer adventures more interesting... But ye best be careful, for the Elements ain't so forgivin' if ye messed up..."

Heaving a sigh as Elzir made his way to the door, his rowan staff already in hand, he half-turned to glance at young Thorn.

"If ye be ready for yer training... follow me."

Almost falling over himself he rushes to the side of the old man. "Really? your going to teach me magic? Wow! This will be great." Realising he left his staff by the counter he hurries back to the counter and grabs the staff, looks around to check he has everything, and heads to the old man. "I'm ready now."

"Then let us be off..."

With a mere wave of his hand, the large twin doors of Elzir's Keep slammed shut and sealed shut with a padlock that seemed to have skipped through the breeze.

With a young apprentice at his side, the old magician headed off towards their training ground. It would be a long day ahead of them, but hopefully worthwhile.
