View Full Version : A possible recruitment...

The Cinderella Man
07-03-07, 12:08 PM
So, I’ve just finished my first solo in a VERY long time, but somewhere around the midpoint of that quest I realized that I was telling only half of the story. And since I’m not overly fond of solos – I find them a necessary evil, especially in a place packed with so many good writers – I decided to get some help for the second part of the story.

This quest is going to be all about carnage and fire and smoke. Victor is going on a path of vendetta and he’s going to kill everybody and anybody that stands on his path. But his enemies are many, and the head honcho amongst them a sleazy little man called Walter Jimes who governs the Radasanth’s whoring empire. We’re going to hit the man where it hurts, taking first his money, then taking out his business, and ultimately take away his life. For that purpose, however, Padre needs help. Your help. I intended to make this a three-person quest, myself included, because a higher number then three in an action-packed story usually gives messy results. I do have some prerequisites.

The first is activity. I can’t emphasize this more. I don’t ask for a post every day, but I do want people that can respond with a post two-three days after their turn has come. Of course, there would be tolerance – we all have lives that sometimes prevent us from writing and sometimes chances are that even I won’t be able to meet the deadline. But if this exception turns into a rule, don’t be surprised if I write you out of a quest, possibly in a rather messy manner. So what I’m asking is dedication. If you don’t see yourself on Althanas in the next month or two, still writing, don’t put your name in the hat. It might sound rigorous, but it’s the way things get done.

Because of this and the specific character prerequisites this will not be a first come-first served type of recruitment. I need active people, but I also have in mind the type of characters I’d like to accompany me.

#1 – I need a firestarter. Somebody who can throw a fireball would be nice. Somebody who can throw a dozen of them would be better. Somebody who can raise hell would be perfect. However, I’m aware that there aren’t that many mages who fit the bill, especially the “raising hell” part. The only name that comes to mind is Luc, but he’s too cocky of a bastard to fit into this story. The alignment of this character should be opposite of the character #2. So if our mage is a good guy, the other participant should be a bad guy. Or girl. One of the two characters should definitely be a chick.

#2 – I need somebody who can kill a man stealthily, preferably from distance. Archers, rogues, assassins and other similar scoundrels, it doesn’t really matter. As long as you’re not a bludgeoner who rushes into a battle headlong, you’re good for the job. There would be some touchy parts where we won’t be able to gung-ho it, so we’ll need some finesse.

But where is your tank, you might be asking now? Where’s the dude with the huge shiny things that likes to poke others with the pointy end? Well, chances are I won’t need one. With Victor packing a lot of heat, and a mage that packs heat in a more literal sense, and an assassin, I think we’re good. However, not all is lost for all of you swordsmen. If I don’t find an appropriate mage, I’d be taking a warrior with me instead and just light the fires with some petroleum or lamp oil or whatnot. It’s less snazzy, but it’ll get the job done.

If you have any questions, ask them here or PM me. Same for registering.

Wow, this turned out longer then I expected.

Would Atzar work for your pyro-mage? I can pull a fair reason why he would be involved - simple morals. So Atzar would be a good-guy mage, if you want him.

I really have been looking to find an opportunity to work with you a bit, but I'm a bit swamped at the moment. If you need someone who can take out a target stealthily, Saxon is probably your man. The question is how active I'm going to have to be in the next couple of months, but with the Gisela coming around and my plate kinda full at the moment, I'm looking at this hesistantly. Put me on the waiting list if you find your people, I'll keep you posted via PM or something if anything changes.

Good luck.

I'm not sure if you want to take along a weaker character, but I would love to join in. I'm pretty sure Kyle could work as an assassin, and, if time is given, could also be a fairly good torturer.

My activity, I'll admit, is kind of iffy when I'm leading my own story, for example the only quest Kyle is in at the moment. If someone else is guiding the bigger picture, this pawn is more than able to do the small work of controlling his character in a timely manner.

It looks like you have plenty of people signing up as assassins...

Well here's another one. Kade is more of sneaking, thievery type. He's good aligned and could easily be swayed into joining Victor if its to stop a whore business. Kade's primary abilities involve stealth and archery. He can hit a square foot target from 40 yards (120 feet) away, and can also shoot two arrows at once from significantly closer.

He seems like a perfect fit for the job, just keep in mind that he's level 0.

If all else fails you know all about Skyler. The queen of stealthy assassins. And with a personal vendetta of her own against the whorehouses of Radasanth. Just throwing my name in the ring.

I'd like to put in a plug for myself. Although my character is a lower level and I'm not really at the same caliber of writing as you, I normally mesh well with stronger roleplayers.

I see Josh being fairly good for the assassin role. Although he doesn't have the means to kill from a distance (unless you can provide a silenced firearm) he does have ninjitsu training, and knows how to blend with a crowd, as well as kill quickly and silently in ways that would leave most Althanas morticians scratching their heads. As far as finesse goes, well, if he had a middle name, that might be it.

On the other hand, if you find someone better for the assassin role but can't locate a mage, Josh doesn't throw fireballs... but he CAN throw molotov cocktails as well as anyone ;)

At any rate, I'm going to be VERY active for the next couple of months at least, so a post every 2-3 days would not be a problem. Here's hoping you pick me!

I believe that I may have to take you up on this. Therefore, I re-present you with Chris, everyone's favorite fireball flinging chef. Now, while he's capable of sneaking around to an extent, and is pretty decent with a sword and chef knives (or a trusty bar stool), he really shines (pun intended, of course) when he's setting things on fire. He's also a good talker, meaning that problems that he can't burn to a crisp, he can always negotiate his way out of. This is assuming that his mouth doesn't just end up getting him into even more trouble. Let's not forget that time the priest walked into a bar. >.>

Christopher has basically been wandering around Corone for a while now, wondering how, and if he's getting back home since his escape from the authorities. (Apparently, he's a traitor... somehow. The guards said so, after all. ;) ) At this point, he'd just be trying to get money for passage back to Salvar without getting arrested again. Granted, he's not a particularly wanted criminal, but he's understandably paranoid. He also has a strong distaste for brothels.

Of course, we can't forget activity. I can sum this up easily enough: I have a long history with writing with Karuka. I'm used to getting poked and hit with things (in the nicest possible way) if I take too long. Activity shouldn't be an issue.

Actually I get pretty mean with him when he's slow. I can vouch for his activity, though.

I'd put my name in the hat and play the 'I'm a red-head' card...but I'm swamped. Have fun, though!

So, here's my predicament. I mentioned above that I need one female character in this, and most characters with their name in the hat are males. Also, as far as I can tell, everybody here is either good or neutral when it comes to alignment. Where have all the evil chicks gone? ;)

Anyways, I'll keep this open for another day or so before I decide.

Yeah, cuz you know, Skyler doesn't count as a chick. And assassins aren't evil. :-p

Letho

I never really saw her as evil. Assassins are people who do their job, sort of like mercenaries. They derive no pleasure from the killing, they don't do it for the fun of it. However, my largest concern with Skyler/you is activity. You tend to disappear from time to time.

Hey I was in the process of moving and had a crapped out computer --- now I'm in a permanent house and have a brand spanking new computer with a working keyboard on a desk. Activity really shouldn't be a problem anymore.

I can put my name in the hat for the assassin, I guess, even though I'm more a pirate.

I throw harpoons, and don't have much of a moral center. ^_^

as far as I can tell, everybody here is either good or neutral when it comes to alignment.

Maybe this is silly, but I can't help trying to push myself for the part. Although I haven't officailly laid down Josh's alignment, I've been playing him somewhere between chaotic good and chaotic neutral. So in a sense, a character who is lawful good or neutral would have an averse alignment.

I have to agree though... there can never be enough evil chicks.

I could make a horribly insane chick whose been mentally and physically tortured to extreme lengths by the dark creatures in the creepy horrible unmentionable places no one wants to end up in after they die. She has no alignment or morals, or virtues. She does things for reasons only she can understand.

Kade Underbough

Ha ha. Make sure she's a fireball thrower, cause I think there's enough assasin's on Althanas to populate an entire country.

Xos

She's a Dollmistress. All her actions are done through her dolls. She only starts off with one, Edward a little knight doll with a dagger for a Longsword. Edward cannot use magic, but her next doll will be able to. Painted man, a sorcerer doll. However, starting out, she can use magic, a fireball should be no problem.

First off, thank you for your interest all of you. I've decided to pick people I never wrote with before. It was by no means an easy decision, but I'll be picking Atzar Kellon for the role of the firestarter and Kade Underbough for the cloak-and-dagger part. You two will be PMd with some additional information and the thread should be up today. The rest of you, I hope to write with you on some other occasion.
