Name: Georgia-Ann Mason
Age: 24
Race: Human
Hair Color: Auburn
Eye Color: Light Brown
Height: 5’7
Weight: 129
Occupation: Ghost Hunter/ Candle maker
Personality: Cheerful and soft-spoken, yet not shy, Georgia-Ann is a bit bookish. She can talk your ear off about history or archaeology or candle making, and definitely don’t get her started about ghosts and spirits. Georgia-Ann offer suffers insomnia, mostly because her mind is constantly moving a million miles a minute.
Appearance: Average height and weight, Georgia-Ann has shoulder length straight red hair that curls slightly at the ends. Her eyes are a light brown and often distant as though she hears something others can’t or is focused on some problem the rest of us know nothing about. Often her hair is pulled up into a bun or a braid to keep it out of her face while she looks for ghosts.
History: Georgia-Ann is the youngest of twelve children, a fisherman’s daughter. Her mother is a candle maker in a village on the coast of Corone, her elder brothers (she’s the only girl) are all fishermen except for Danny who is an apprentice carpenter. Georgia-Ann’s father coddled her because she was his baby girl, and in true form, her mother treated her like she was a complete disappointment no matter what she decided to do. Georgia-Ann knows better than to hold this against her mother - Mrs. Mason has a deep-seated need to be ornery and difficult.
When she was six, her mother began sending Georgia-Ann to the market or out into the woods and meadows to gather the herbs and wax she needed to make her candles. This, of course, is how she came to meet Mathilda and discover that she had a talent for talking to the dead. Not directly of course - they didn’t just come and tell her their life stories so she could help them. But if she had a scrying glass, or crystal ball, or divining rods, or the right kind of candles, she could use these things to find out if in fact there was a ghost in her vicinity and what it wanted or who it thought it was. Mathilda was a witch. There were several people in her village who of course sought to have her burned as one, but for the most part people knew that they wouldn’t be able to function without her medical expertise, her spiritual guidance, and her handy little love potions. In a way, she took Georgia-Ann on as her apprentice, which of course drove Mrs. Mason to distraction - particularly since Mrs. Mason was one of the few who wanted Mathilda burned for a witch.
After a few years, Mathilda grew too old to travel any farther than nearby villages in order to expel ghosts from old castles and various ruins, so she began to send Georgia-Ann. At first Georgia-Ann lied to her family, said she was traveling to find rare ingredients for her candles. This only fooled her family for a little while. Danny was the first to guess her lie, then her father - of course neither of them would say anything, since she was flawless in their eyes. Unfortunately, it wasn’t long after they figured out her secret that her mother figured it out as well. That was the last straw for Mrs. Mason and she summarily asked Georgia-Ann to leave. Mr. Mason wouldn’t let his wife go so far as to completely disown their youngest child, or to throw her out with nothing to call her own, but it wasn’t far from that. That didn’t daunt Georgia-Ann though. With Mathilda’s blessing, she soon began to travel all over Althanas, selling candles and offering her services to everyone from villager to noble, the combination of which has supported her for nearly five years now.
Skills:
Candle making: Although Georgia-Ann doesn’t have quite the extensive selection of candles as her mother, she still has enough experience with making candles that with wax and the right herbs she can create a pleasant scented candle that will not only smell nice and burn brightly, but if you wish she can make one to have certain mental or emotional effects - at this point only positive effects such as love, relaxation, focus, etc. She also has a recipe which allows her to make a candle which gives ghosts the energy they need to manifest. Unfortunately, this recipe is difficult to combine properly, and often does not work effectively, often only allowing the ghost to partially appear or angering the ghost.
Scrying/ Crystal-gazing: Mathilda taught Georgia-Ann the basics of using either a smooth reflective surface or a crystal ball to speak to ghosts and spirits. A high quality-mirror works best for scrying - if the surface is not completely smooth the information is distorted. Perfectly still water can work for scrying as well.
Divining: Georgia-Ann also learned how to use divining rods from Mathilda - often these rods, which are made of hazel branches, lead Georgia-Ann to an area where ghostly energy can be found.
Archaeology: This is a skill that Georgia-Ann has only begun to learn, and only because it is often required of her in order to learn more about the building or area in which she is ghost hunting. The whole idea of finders-keepers though, is somewhat appealing.
Ghost-appeal: When in desperate need of defense, Georgia-Ann has the ability to appeal to any spirit in the building or within 100 yards to defend her. She’s only used this once when a building she was ghost hunting in caught on fire and she was trapped. At the moment she can only use this ability once per thread.
Equipment:
Before she left, her father packed her a bag with two pounds of beeswax, a few bottles of essential oils, and 25 wicks. Mathilda also gave Georgia-Ann a scrying mirror, a very small crystal ball, and a set of divining rods.
