Personality

Having awakened to a world that has seen nearly two thousand years to change it since Prime first fell into his involuntary stasis, and afflicted by near-total amnesia to boot, the primal mage has rapidly fallen prey to the paws of paranoia and distrust. Everything and everyone he once knew, every skill he once possessed, every spell he was once able to cast, has fallen into the void of memory loss. Consequently, he is extremely cautious when dealing with strangers and quick to follow his instinct, which usually leads to violence - his actions are no longer steered by the cold ratiocination he showed in the Demon Wars, but by the conflux of powerful, ancient magic within him. A primal force that he can no longer control due to the damage done to his extensive knowledge while he was imprisoned in mystical paralysis. He might be a wise, old man on the outside, but he is wild at heart.

History

Prime’s story spans most of Althanas’s known history, even though the unfortunate amnesiac himself is completely unaware of this. Due to his debilitating loss of memory and the lack of written sources concerning the planet’s earliest history, little is known about Prime’s place of birth, his life until he reached his ageless status, and his real name – or lack thereof. His existence was first accounted for in early scriptures of the Raiaeran Elves, dated about twenty years after the inauguration of the Coronari Estella. However, the author’s words convey a sense of awe and sheer incredulity at Prime’s actions, almost acting as though his presence in Raiaera was a sign of providential goodwill, and his description matches Prime’s current appearance eerily well. This means that even at that point in history, now more than fourteen thousand years ago, he possessed a tremendous amount of magical power and knowledge, which led many to believe that his birth predated even the Elves’ first arrival on the continent.

Having had so many eons to learn and to hone his skills, it isn’t strange that he’s mentioned by many chroniclers as a minor commander of the forces of ‘good’ in their battle against evil. He served as a battlemage in the armies of High Elves in their struggle against the Forgotten Ones during the War of the Tap. He took part in the song-mage’s campaign against the vicious melodies of Enarlin, but his forces were easily scattered by his opponent’s hate-brewing and morale-breaking compositions, causing him to abandon the High Elves’ cause and flee to other parts of Althanas. Information on him then runs short, although brief mentions of him wandering through Alerar, Corone and Salvar. He appeared to have turned away from the way of war in spite of the nature of his magic, which was much like humans: wild, unpredictable, and prone to dominate.

This apathetic behaviour lasted until the advent of the Demon Wars, about two thousand years ago. Several weeks after the fall of Teria to the Demon Menace during the invasion of Corone, he reappeared amidst the alliance of Humans and Elves that strove to keep the infernal hordes at bay; he was described by an unnamed writer as having “a bonfire of bitterness and fury galloping through his turquoise eyes as though he were commanding a legion of heavy cavalry – a firestorm that raged and flared whenever a demon was seen or even mentioned, for these creatures were the antithesis of all that his magic stood for: they brought destruction without creation, wreaking death without sowing life.” It was also in that manuscript that Prime was first mentioned by a name - or more specifically, a title. The writer deemed him Asenör or Old Man in Raiaera's ancient dialect.

Prime's magic proved very succesful in battles against the demons, who were suddenly faced with a force that, at the right time, could achieve degrees of destruction that even the most ambitious demonlord would not dare dream of; his presence on the battlefield became a sign of impending doom for any demon army, and caused a great morale boost amongst the members of the Human and Elven Alliance. Of course, the Demon Menace could not and would not be trampled by the actions of one man alone - with time, every sorcerer, every shaman that could be spared was set upon Prime's trail. Eventually, they found him and after a strenuous battle, managed to lure the powerful mage into imprisoning himself into his staff for an indefinite amount of time, thereby vanquishing the threat he posed to the demonic invasion. The Alliance of Humans and Elves was defeated not much later.

A little less that two thousand years afterward, on the outskirts of Radasanth, the effects of the sorcerer's desperate spell wore off, and he was cast back into Althanas, with no memory of who he is or what he's done in the past - his only name the collection of small symbols engraved upon the ornate buckle on his robes: Prime.

Primal Magic

The magic that Prime wields is a very raw, very pure form of arcane power. It draws power from the basic fundaments of Althanas's existence, in particular its physics and the most ingrained instincts of its inhabitants: as such, it is controlled by a fiery desideratum for domination. Wild and chaotic in nature, careless application of the magic could lead to irrepairable rifts in time and space, although in his current state, Prime is more likely to cause spontaneous self-combustion should any of his few spells go awry. There is much that can be said about this form of magic, but there are several basic rules that it must adhere to - its own physics, if you will.

1. Destruction requires creation. Creation requires destruction.
2. Time and space are abstract phenomena that transcend even primal forces, and can not directly be affected by its magics.

There are more, but they are not relevant at this level.

Arcane Burst
Although much of his knowledge has been lost, Prime has retained the ability to channel primal energies through various parts of his body - a technique that he has honed so much in the past that it comes to him as naturally as breathing, although the power of the projectiles are not anywhere near their original strength. Currently, an Arcane Burst appears like a volatile orb of blue flames, about the size of a pineapple. The fire's intensity is such that it can cause light burns when it hits organic materials, or it can set dry, flammable materials ablaze.

This spell requires energy to be sapped from the environment to create the burst. Continuous casting can tangibly decrease the temperature around Prime's body, since he usually draws off the warmth around him to cast this spell - or in colder environments, his own body temperature (which, of course, severely inhibits his ability to fire consecutive Arcane Bursts at his foes and renders him weak and fragile).

Transmute
A very tiring technique, the reform spell allows Prime to eliminate certain aspects of existing energy or matter. For example, he might take the heat away from a fireball, causing it to be only light. Or he might take light away from the environment to heat up a blast of ice, causing it to melt. At this level, reforming may only be attempted at small concentrations of energy or matter - a fist-sized, magical projectile, or a hearthfire, a puddle, etcetera.

The problem with this spell is that the converted energy has to escape in some form or another - and how it does is often unpredictable and potentially dangerous to both Prime and his opponent. For example, he may take heat away from a fireball, but if that eliminated energy chooses to escape in the form of additional light, the result could be a bright flash, very harmful to the eyes - quite dangerous, considering that Prime has to keep eye contact with the energy he's trying to alter.

Equipment

Light Chainmail
A light vest of chainmail beneath Prime's robes crafted from a multitude of interlocking iron rings. It's not the best protection, but it does not restrict spellcasting and allows Prime to quickly move from place to place.

Mage Robes
Yellowgreen robes that breathe with a certain wizardly authority, even though the cloth itself has no inherent, magical qualities.

Oak Staff
A long staff created from trusty oakwood, thick, round and hollow with overlapping roots at the top. It slightly easens the burden of channeling primal force and is often used as a buffer whenever the magic threatens to overwhelm Prime's recovering safeguards. It is not suitable for melee combat - one strike would splinter its fragile frame.

It looks okay, but don't powergame the effects of Transmute.

Also keep in mind that Ageless does not mean Invulnerable.
