View Full Version : The Pokemon Trainer

Who Said Pikachu?
07-17-07, 10:31 AM
Name: Damon Rannoch
Age: 17
Race: Human
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 188cm
Weight: 75kg
Occupation: Pokémon Trainer..

Personality:
Damon's been a little to cocksure and full of himself the last few years having succeeded in his goal of becoming a Pokémon Trainer. Things have perhaps been that little bit too easy, with no challenge to keep his head out of the clouds and he's all the more a dick for it. He quite honestly thinks he's all that and giving his standing and his age that he's more than good enough for anything and anyone.
Really, Damon's the sort who needs a good swift kick up the bum to knock some sense back into him, Presumably being dumped in a ‘real’ world as opposed to the Pokémon realm of everyone’s friendly/nice and the bad guys are always caught will do something about this.

Appearance:
Damon's a lanky teen who holds himself with a fair amount of confidence. The fact he's not the worst to be seen probably helps the matter. Sure, he's not the best looking fella out there in the world, but he sure ain't ugly and he knows how to get a smile with what he's got.
All long limbs with more grace than a gangly teen should have, he's a reasonable height with an athletic figure. Shaggy brown hair, cropped short all around the back with blonde highlights, usually spiked with product tops his head. Brown eyes watch what they will, though tend to miss most. He's a young face as befits his age, no harsh lines, no hard defining aspects having etched themselves just yet past a cheek's dimple from his tendency to smirk.
Clothes abound in black denim jeans, well fitted with cuffs folded up and the knees scuffed. Your trendy teen graffitti shirt (blue with white/grey/other shades of blue randomised). Grey and black hoodie, loose fitting. Black runners with nifty PokeTech branded sides and laces for his feet over simple black socks.
Added equipment would be; a chain that loops the belt around his waist and trails down to his left pocket, a set of six embedded clips in the links for connecting Pokeballs. Wallet, keys, pokedex, all tucked into pockets with various other 'I'm living on my own in the middle of nowhere' gear that somehow fits into your average sized PokeTech branded backpack of blue and black design.

History:
Life’s really pretty much been your average Pokémon world sort of beginning. He went to school, learnt about Pokémon and the various general life skills as you do at school. Came home, helped his mother around the house, played games and saw friends. All your typical kiddy things. He took the test required to apply for a Pokémon licence, failed twice and finally managed to pass at the age of 13 and became legally able to attain his first Pokémon and begin his Pokémon journey.

Damon got his first Pokémon, Krache, a cute little baby Torchic(Gen III, Fire starter).
Together they started off on their Pokémon journey. Not quite best friends from the beginning, but amiable enough that there wasn’t really any issues starting out.

Damon’s first ‘captured’ Pokémon was a young Ralts who’d managed to get itself lost. He didn’t really capture it at first. More Krache was wandering about after some training and bumped into the lost Pokémon. Realising it was quite young he hadn’t felt like battling it despite the psychic Pokémon’s own intentions and instead had called over Damon. Together they took the youngster back to where she was supposed to of come from. This did take alot longer than they would of originally thought as the little thing had managed to Teleport itself much further than it realised. It was over a month before they were able to return the Ralts and in that time they became friends. To the point that when the Ralts was finally brought back to it’s homeland it decided it’d rather join Damon and Krache and became his second Pokémon. Well, okay, second proper ‘main team’ Pokémon. Damon had already captured a couple of others he was putting through rotational training, mostly weak sorts unlikely to be used for too long.

Time passed, Damon got better at his training, he caught more Pokémon, those Pokémon evolved and got stronger. It was still a good two years before he’d completed a set of Gym Badges and was able to compete in the Pokémon League tournament. At this point he had over two dozen different Pokémon in his available roster, not all trained to the best degree, but available to battle none the less. He still had with him Krache and Seinnar (the by then Kirlia evolved Ralts) who had remained within his team fair on constantly since their joining. He also had along with him in the League battle; Braizair an exceedingly tough Skarmory he’d picked up within the deserts of the Hoenn region, Kieza a quite natured Aggron, Zena a lightning fast if rather weak Linoone and Bit a very easily amused Sceptile.

Damon did reasonably well in the Tournament, a top 16 placement, even if just barely was a fairly accomplished feat for someone who’d failed their initial trainer’s test twice and was only two years into training.

The Hoenn region exhausted Damon took himself back home to see family and old friends before heading to a new place in the world to try his luck as a trainer elsewhere.

The S.S. Cruiser took him to the port at Vermilion City where he spent all of three weeks before gaining tickets for the S.S. Aqua and heading to Olivine City.

So started Damon’s journeying of the Johto region.
More battles, more Gym Badges, more friends, more Pokémon. Much of the same, just with different faces and monsters. Things were perhaps a little harder for Damon in the new region, if only for the fact he was a foreigner and nature of the land was that bit different.

Still, things were moving along fine and Damon had gained a good selection of new Pokémon to add to his roster when he went to compete in the Johto League Championship.

This time Damon didn’t just scrape into the top 16 trainers, but also managed to [i]almost knock out his opponent in the top 8 competitors. Which though a disappointment that he’d not succeeded as much as he’d of liked, it was still better than the last and he wasn’t about to complain overtly.

Near on four years into training and Damon had over fifty assorted Pokémon in his collection, mostly stored away in various places and hardly ever seen due to their ‘uselessness’. These lucky Pokémon were often traded to other trainers for those Damon had more interest in collecting or breeding with his own Pokémon to gain the ‘best’ he could.

The Johto region brought with it it’s favourite Pokémon and these Damon switched the most between his current party while travelling. Shadow a highly enthusiastic if bashful Furret, Thrasher a hot tempted and heavy fisted Primeape, SirenScream a Gyarados with a surprisingly gentle nature, VioletSong a Lapras that was the very epitome of it’s species, Vile a Fearow that through circumstance managed to gain itself a place of favour in Damon’s Team, and lastly, Buddy a Venusaur of a rather mild nature he’d traded with a cute girl in Cherrygrove City.

Recent history has Damon in an area he’s unlikely to of gone to without the insistence of another Pokémon Trainer. Having captured a disagreeable Sudowoodo and been offered a trade of a Absol for the Pokémon Damon had been more than pleased to agree. Absol was one of those few Pokémon he hadn’t even managed to capture a glimpse of in the wilds of Hoenn despite quite a bit of effort searching for one.
Still, it’d seem the other trainer had had much the same idea Damon had of getting rid of an irritating Pokémon. The Absol, named Devil by it’s original trainer, though confirmed to actually be called Diasta, was a creature that had no intention what so ever of obeying any human’s command. It did not wish to be a captured monster, it wanted freedom and it was doing all it could short of killing it’s current trainer to be set loose.
Why exactly it was unwilling to go so far as harm Damon couldn’t exactly be said, it had the nature to be happy to do so, and it didn’t fear Krache, the only Pokémon in Damon’s current possession that presented any real threat to it. It just seemed unwilling of it’s own accord. Still, this didn’t mean it wouldn’t make every single moment it was out of confinement a living hell.

Damon being his overconfident and bull-headed self wasn’t about to just let this dark type think it was better than him. No, he was gonna make it obey him and respect him and become one of his prized Pokémon. Or the Gods be damned! Yes.

Anyway, the advice given was to try training in a area more often associated with Absol as their wild territory. Canyons, ruins, places where life once thrived but no longer remained so healthy, this was the realm of the ‘disaster’ Pokémon. So Damon took himself and his current training team to a set of ruins, rumoured to hold ‘mystical’ powers and what not in hope of getting on the better side of his disloyal charge.

Can’t say it worked well. Diasta was just as strong willed as Damon and determined to do exactly as it pleased.

A particularly ineffective training session lead to what brought Damon from the Pokémon world to that of Althanas.

Diasta as per usual was not doing as it was supposed to do. Damon had sent it out against a wild Pikachu in the hopes that it would at least put some sort of effort into a battle, namely as the Pikachu in question seemed quite intent on being cheeky and provoking everything it could. Eventually the sparkmouse did get a reaction from the dark type and in the ensuring tussle the Absol had it’s interest in battle thoroughly motivated and when the Pikachu decided it had had enough the dark dog had no intention of letting it go. So Damon found himself running after the two Pokémon as they bolted after each other deep into the ancient ruins they’d been training in.

One thing lead to another and Damon found himself lost in the maze of tunnels and chambers within the ruins, his only company the Pikachu as Diasta seemed to of finally managed to escape his grasp. Not in the best company and certainly not in the best mood after all that running, when Diasta did finally appear again, above and beyond Damon’s reach he was not impressed. Not that the Absol seemed to notice or care, it’s attention was on something else.. something else that the Pikachu was quick to spot.

From behind them the wall was glowing, pulsating, sending waves of light through the air from a central focus of darkness. Damon was.. well, he didn’t know what he was, scared probably. From the darkness spots of light were growing, spreading, coming forth. The very air itself was changing, vibrating with energies unknown to Damon or either of the Pokémon currently with him.. Well, except possibly the Pikachu, though it had never been this close to such an anomaly before.

It was without warning that suddenly, from what was now behind Damon and the Pikachu, Diasta roared and leapt forth, straight into the swirling depths of the unknown. With the Absol’s sudden launch into the depths of whatever the swirling light was those little focused pinpoints flooded out, spilling into the chamber Damon and the Pikachu stood within. Within moments they were surrounded, covered with the strange creatures that just kept coming and coming with no seeming end. The world turned upside down, inside out, as with a rush the beings whipped the two of them into a mighty storm of light, movement and flashing bodies. There was no stopping it, there was no escape, Trainer and Pokémon were being swept into the unknown and they could do nothing about it.

Oblivion met them both as with a flash and a pull they were sucked away, through a portal to another realm. The last moments a screaming horror as Damon realised that with all the things flinging themselves around and against him that they’d dislodged his Pokeballs, that they were streaming free of him amongst the light and unknown. The Pokémon he’d trained so hard with, that he’d chosen specifically to stand by his side as he tried to gain the loyalty of the Absol who would have none of it. They were being lost and he could do nothing to stop it.
The last moment, a flash of confusion as two minds met and melded for that one instant before separating again and then darkness.

Skills:
Damon doesn’t personally have any skills really. He’s a Pokémon Trainer after all, the Pokémon do all the work. Or at least used to.

The extent of Damon’s skills would be..

Pokemon Trainer: Damon has reasonable knowledge and skill when commanding a Pokemon in what it should and shouldn't be able to do both in and out of combat. General care skills for ailments and hurts aren't beyond him as any half decent Pokemon Trainer should be able to look after their Pokemon after a battle.
Through this he's got a bit of an eye for telling distress in creatures, but only if he's actually looking for something, which more often than not he doesn't. That he has the ability to use observation and pick up problems in animals doesn't mean he uses it.
Most of the training techniques and general knowledge of Pokemon battling isn't really worth much in the Althanas world, it doesn't transfer when there isn't Pokemon for the information to go with. Though it does give him a vague idea of some elemental match ups and combinations and how they could possibly work in relation to each other.
About the only thing such skills are useful for currently is being able to tell that Pikachu's not quite what it should be here in this world. And that the animals in this world aren't Pokemon and don't have the skills that a Pokemon would. That and he's inclined to mistake certain creatures for Pokemon.

Happy Camper: Damon has your average camping skills, basically all the typical skills required to survive out in the wilderness on your own Damon can manage, within reason of course. He prefers proper flint and matches, but he can start a fire without. He can’t hunt though and his scavenging skills leave much to be desired. Damon’s much better with a pre-set camp and meals to going free range in that aspect. Still, thrown in a forest on his own he wont just die.

Otherwise well.. Damon can’t do very much. He can’t shoot, he has no weaponry skills, he’s not even a particularly good swimmer. He’s average in any sort of athletic ability, he’s not really brainy or clever, he’s just him.

Equipment:
Damon has a PokeTech brand backpack, which holds a surprisingly large amount of stuff. You’d think it was magic or something. More it’s just travel packing technology in the Pokémon world is of the utmost importance and such things are made to shrink down.
Inside the backpack can be found.

- Sleeping bag
- A blanket
- Extra underwear
- Extra pair of pants and shirt
- Spare socks
- Mini sewing kit (that Damon has no skill at using/pins, thread, thimble, pincushion, needles, etc)
- Toothbrush and Processed Toothpaste Powder (PTP)
- A rope
- Flint and matches
- Cooking equipment (pan, pot, lid, spoon, etc)
- Cutlery (spoon, fork, knife, plate, bowl, cup, etc)
- A thermos
- A half dozen easy cook meals
- Small first aid kit (bandaids, bandage, clips, iodine, headache tablets, gauze, tweezers,)
- Three spare Pokéballs (One Greatball, two Ultraballs – all deactivated and pretty much useless now as anything other than a funny coloured rock)
- A selection of Full heals(4)/Potions(7) suitable for Pokémon. (None of which are particularly effective anymore, only giving about a quarter of the relief they used to and unable to heal serious injuries)
- Keys
- A Blaziken 4inch plushie.
- Wallet (with various useless cards and PokéDollars)
- A TM (No longer workable)
- Fifteen assorted berries and seeds. (Varying flavours and with slightly better healing factors than the Potion/FH for the Pokémon, no more use than any other kind of food for a human)

Other assorted stuff ~

A plain black belt.
A PokéTech hat.
A chain that attaches to his belt and has clips available for Pokeballs.
A PokéEtch (Has a time keeper, alarm, calculator, memopad, coin toss, Pokémon Type chart, calender, Pokémon health meter, radio, phone listing, weather gauge, map function (defunct as it’s of Pokémon World regions, essentially it’s a Pokémon orientated Blackberry minus the internet and dialing capabilities.)
A PokéDex (Which.. seems to fail miserably at managing to do anything now past listing off numbers and information it doesn’t need to scan for)
A mobile phone.

Familiars: Pikachu
What's a Pokémon trainer without an actual Pokémon?
As Damon has just lost all of his Pokémon to the dimensional rift caused by the Unown in the ancient ruins the only one he has with him currently is Pikachu the Pikachu. And they’re currently together more for the fact that well.. this new world is scary and they’re both from the same familiar one. They’ve at least a little understanding of each other if nothing of a great liking to begin with. The moment’s mind contact created by the Unown as they were pulled between worlds mean both are open to aspects of the other that would never likely of happened otherwise. Damon can actually understand Pikachu and vice versa.

Pikachu’s a cheeky little thing. He’s more animal and yet with more of a mind than he’d had before coming to the strange new world where everything just seems that much more real. Things actually try to eat you in this world! And kill you for no particular reason!
Still, he’s rather upbeat on the matter and even his abilities aren’t so wonderful anymore, he has company in the shape of the human.

Desc ~
Anyways, Pikachu’s still it’s 2ft nothing size, yellow furred with a brown banded back, an oddly shaped yellow zigzag tail with a brown blended base. It’s not quite so squat, but it’s still short limbed, long pointy ears tipped with black, big button black eyes with hints of dark chocolate within and then those two round red cheek patches.

Abilities~
Element wise Pikachu’s a little disgusted with itself to find it can barely more than spark. It’s electrical abilities have changed, they’re not what they used to be in the home world. They take more focus, energy, and if not handled correctly it hurts more than when he was a Pichu first leaning how to spark. For that matter, most of the ‘Attacks’ he should know just don’t work like they should. Quick attack works over barely two meters and merely bruises most. DoubleTeam quite simply doesn’t work. Tail whip only gives a light lashing and puts Pikachu in danger. Thunderwave only causes tingles if he can even get it radiate, though admittedly if he’s lucky it’ll make limbs fall asleep of those within a foot or so.

Static~
The inherent ability of Pikachu to static those who come into contact with them does still work. It’s limited though by being frustrated/stressed/irritated/or just merely distressed in some way. All that elemental energy that’s having trouble focusing dances over the Pokémon’s body in mini static bolts that given close contact will cause pins and needles or under prolonged contact actual temporary paralysis. Only lasts about two minutes and the bigger they are the less likely it’s going to reach much of the opponents body. An average human depending where the contact is will have that limb paralysed and only that limb. The only real danger is if it’s prolonged contact near someone’s chest as it can cause it to seize up. Still, Pikachu’s unlikely to get itself that high up on a person and remain in such close contact while annoyed. Smart people leave Pikachu alone at these times.

Otherwise that’s Pikachu and Damon.

[I]Oh and as a sorta OOC note and what not.
I have absolutely no intention of having Damon come into contact or reclaim ANY of his Pokemon until at least Level 3+. And then it'll only be possibly one every two levels or so if things even work that he's able to claim them again.
I want to play this like once the Pokemon crossed over to the Althanas world they took on the personalities you read in the Pokedex more than what you see in the Anime, which is what Dammon's world is based on. So essentially they're just going to be monsters he's going to come into contact with again at some point and hope they remember him as apposed to trying to kill him.
There's only going to be six other Pokemon out there. The Absol (Diasta) and five others from those listed in the history and no others.
Just in case that's a worry, as well, I kinda figure having a team of six highly skilled Pokemon who are essentially elemental monsters is a bit much for a low level character and what not. Plus, I want to work on the character development between Pikachu and Damon before throwing in a whole team of other characters.

This reads far too much like Ash Ketchum's history from the show Pokemon, meaning I see it as plagiarism and thus cannot approve it.

I'll add a note here:

Because of copyright and trademark considerations, Althanas requires that all players have original characters. Here is a snippet from our character creation FAQ: "It is a requirement that all players on Althanas use original character concepts. While it is perfectly acceptable to borrow general details from other forms of fantasy and fiction (it is fine if you want to be an elf, for example), it is not okay to use another character as a template for your own."

The concept of a character who catches monsters and uses them to battle others and with no combat skill of his own is interesting and should make for a great character. However, you'll need to come up with something that doesn't use the word "Pokemon", "Pikachu", "Pokedex", or anything that comes directly from Pokemon lore.

We've all borrowed from something to make our characters. The important thing is to infuse enough of your own creativity into what has inspired you to come up with something that is unique and your own. You have obviously already put a lot of time and effort into crafting this profile, so I'd love for you to be able to keep up with the concept and make these few minor tweaks. Good luck!

So because I'm using the Pokemon theme, even as just a generic character based off the series I can't use it? I thought it was open to using characters from already established worlds as long as you didn't use a character created by someone else (main character, side character, etc).

.. Mn.
So if I turned it to some ripped off random monster capturing dude that was really obviously copied from Pokemon it'd be okay then?

Pokemon are subject to copyright. You'll notice we don't have Jedi or Sith running around, either.

And I'd have serious issues with approving an obviously ripped off char. We support creativity. Having a Pokemon trainer isn't permissible. Having a beast tamer, on the other hand, is...so long as it isn't plagiarized.

Personally I don't know any beast tamer things so can't see that happening.

Anyways, I'll go about modifying all this. I'm gonna have to get a different name and everything aren't I.. Hmn.

Oh well, to make a generic monster person thing. I'll edit n reapply later tonight.
