Talking About Avatars and Profile Pictures

I was talking to someone about my avatar a little while ago, and thought it might be fun to make a thread about this subject.

So, I ask you, what is your avatar? Why did you choose? Where's it from? Mine is a knight in a pre-Raphaelite painting, but some people say the person in it looks like a famous celebrity - can you guess which? Do you have a favorite avatar on Althanas (I personally like Massacre's)?

Also, those of you who have profile pictures could discuss those too.

Found my Avatar in an art splash page in some tiny little unknown manga, there wasn't a single character in the actual manga drawn like that which was a tad unusual, it pretty much represents how Corvus has always looked since I got him sprited and how Silver drew him as well.

My Profile pic was done by Ciel though there were a few omissions of his features that she simply forgot, still a class pic though.

For The Mime its the same pic done by Blackwhisker as a crap wee doodle as she calls it.

For Goji both pics are of Ryouma Nagare from Getter Robo Armageddon, they share the same clothing and hot-bloodedness though personalities are a fair whack different.

My avatar is pretty easy. It was a request from the old Asuka's Avatar Central. It's how I got started there as the colorist, and how I finally got a start in drawing...of course, now I seem to need some creativity jumper-cables. :(

My avatar is a rendition of Seth. A few years ago when I was just getting started on the site. Bonta Chan (I'm sure she's around and in hiding) decided she wanted to draw Seth for my birthday and basically talked to me about the look I had chosen for seth. The result is the picture you can see by clicking on my username. I just cut the head off and used it for an avatar.

Well shoot. THIS rendition was done by Madgoblin. I happen to like it much as it was done when Seth was still recovering form the horrible things he had done. It captures that almost cocky character he has, as he very rarely backs down from a fight.

Christina's avatar is a picture of Vice-Captain Matsumoto Rangiku from Bleach, edited by Arsenic Ruin. I picked it because generally, Matsumoto is the character I think of the most and relate the most to Christina, both in terms of looks and personality. (I had the picture edited because, one, it look pretty this way, and two, Matsumoto's hair is strawberry-blonde but effectively quite reddish in a lot of pictures, and Christina's is blonde, so just straight out using a screenshot wouldn't usually work.)

Elrundir's avatar was taken from DeviantArt, and it was drawn by a fantastic artist named heise. I picked it because... well, it's cool.

Manda did my avvy for Karuka, and I'm gonna keep it forever -- it's captured her perfectly.

I took my pics for Anila and Seraphima from Massacre's stash, and I found Syn's on photobucket.

The_Archer and Siren don't have pics.

My avvie for this account is of a walking sasquatch on a field of margarin-yellow. Found when I was a-image hunting, it supposedly is the design for a shirt that I would never buy, since yellow is not my colour. I chose it because that particular image represents me under this screename in a few other places.

One of these days, I'll draw Sid's ugly mug and smack it up in there.

My profile pic depicts the Greatly Supreme Astro Cat in all It's outraged Glory. Because Astro Cat loves me and I love It.

American Mcgee's Cheshire Cat from the game Alice. I chose it because it fits Saxon perfectly; out of place, strange, and somewhat sinister. No matter how much I've tried, I've always had a thing for weird macabre, and the stranger is always the better. I had an idea for a story awhile back of making a creature that looked similar to my avatar who was a liaison to a very, very old evil. Might dig that up eventually.

Somehow though, I've had the urge to change my avatar to the face of Bruce Willis ever since I saw the movie Unbreakable.. hm. ;)

Profile picture was drawn by Silvermaiden after I won that contest about 'The Workst Joke Ever'. It had pirates and steering wheels. The hair is different than I had imagined, and she's not as lanky as I thought, but all in all, pretty awesome depiction.

Avatar was drawn by, well, me. I got the idea after looking for a picture of Lillian and ending up on 'Tuesday Comic', where the characters were drawn more or less like bean-figures. Varia, Darkstorm and Indecisive have my renditions of their characters. Fear the eldritch mind beneath the cute and ditzy stare!

Since i dont really want to pester anyone to draw me a proper looking drawing of my chararcter i choose Kyle from the video game Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete.....kyle is basically the same personality and look as Raziel, only difference is that Kyle has long hair and Raziel has his cropped short.

And my other char. Damian i choose the full blood moon for the whole werewolf thing

My avatar is a picture of Rachel Weisz in the movie Constantine. I had another avvy of her a while back, but then got rid of it. I blame Letho mostly, he got me thinking that if Sanoë were a character in a movie or something, she would be played by Rachel Weisz. She's Sanoë to a tee, and the way she looks in this avvy is spot on.

My profile picture is a picture of Sanoë I randomly drew in my sketch book a long time ago, and it actually turned out decent, not to mention how I actually picture Sanoë.

Massacre easily has the best profile picture.

My avatar is Luc. I found it on a website a long, long time ago and always used it. *shrug*

As for Yamihara and AsukaStrike's avatars, they are done by the amazing Cielalune. She first created Yamihara's avatar and I requested a slight modification (with the eyes and frown) to get Murakama's!

...OK... let's see... Oh, yeah! Gadgeteer Mikami's avatar is done by me! None for the rookie thief Haruzame. :p

Of course, I could re-open Avatar Central, but not today. NeNeNe (my loyal and trusty laptop) is currently getting her LCD screen replaced and won't be operational for a month... Oh, t3h H0rr0r! :(

My avatar actually was made by one of my closer friends for me along 2 of my characters (one seemingly looks alot like Vincent Valentine) ; The whole picture is much prettier though.

My favorites in Avatars/profile pictures have always been Dissinger's and Cyrus the Virus's ; Especially their older ones back before the whole server crash thing. I plan to look at Massacre's though the way you say it is.

My Avatar and Profile are both the same picture, done by me. Just did it today actually =D. They are Neptune, ad I think that of what pictures i've done of him, it captures him the best. Undead, Small Smirk on his face, Sexy Fella overall, If your into that "Reanimated corpse" Thing. The Background was done with nifty work of the smudge tool. It shows hidden images of demons and ghouls, in the form of ominous purple clouds moving in on his blue sky. If you look at the sky behind his head you can see little devil horns. A little foreshadowing for the path he has ahead. Though, The pants on this look messed up because of the forced mouse DrawingI'll Update this every character update so you can always have an up-to-date look at Neptune.


Edit: Holy Crud! I just realized that I forgot the cape on his back, its just wrapped around his neck... -_-

I have some of her work favorited on deviantART, and almost used the same picture (Nelicquele) for Alaina. Until I saw that you'd used it for Lily. :p

Buuut.. My avatar is Alaina, of course. I took a stock image from deviantART and edited it to bloody hell. The girl in the photo normally has tan skin, straight brown hair and brown eyes. I made her look half dead! Fwhee!

My avatar is a manatee humping a shark. When I first came upon this masterpiece of art at 4chan, I was touched by the deep emotions expressed in the picture. The manatee only wants to make friends, but the shark is a cold-hearted bastard. So the manatee rapes him. It is so much like the real world, I felt obligated to make it my avatar.

Manda drew my profile pic, and she did a real good job of capturing the ESSENCE OF HIS BEING. Or something.
