"That’s what I’m looking for. Yes, they’re perfect."

His face was illuminated by the dim candlelight of the quaint shop. As the Basillisk lifted a pair of heavy, iron chained grappling hooks into the air in one hand, he gave a thumb up with the other to no-one in particular. They were crude, but the grappling hooks were ideal. Each had a twenty foot length iron chain, and at the end a three pronged curving metal hook used for scaling walls. He tossed the hooks up into the air, trying to get a feel for their weight, and they promptly dropped back into his hands. They felt good.

"Yes. They are very nice indeed."

He looked almost fearfully around the shop to discover that no-one appeared to be serving. Irritated, he knocked on the oaken service counter, and waited, hooks in hand.

“Yo, I need me a valuation for these iron hooks please. I’m thinking of going mountaineering on someone’s face.”

Can you please use a brighter font? That's hard to see on my background.

There was a reason the creaky shop seemed uninhabited to mortal eyes. As far as the living were concerned, it practically was.

After a few moments, some items floated from one corner to the other, and the candle light flickered mysteriously.

"Faces make not mountains, lad," said a disembodied voice with a cackle. "But sometimes thorny personalities make a lovely briar patch. Every briar has its rose, you know. Faces are too small to be mountains or gardens."

A face appeared in a dusty mirror behind the counter. It didn't seem to possess a body, and had glowing red eyes and abnormally pale flesh. "But if you like my rust-prone wares, they're 180 of your gold."

(Sorry, i'm stuck on a lighter profile. Hope this is better.)

That was a reasonable price, Bane thought, as he pondered the offer. They were iron chained, and like the shopkeeper implied would rust if not looked after properly, but he wasn’t after an indestructible wall-climbing accessory. If he wanted that, he would have bought from a relic store. He simply wanted something functional. A pair of iron hooks on two twenty foot long steel chains would still break someone’s nose as well as a pair of steel ones.

“Here…” Bane drew the asking price from his reserves, and slotted them neatly into the shopkeeper’s hand. He’d probably made a good deal today. “…take it with my thanks.”

With that, and as happy as can be with his new toys, Bane passed a fleeting glance at the store interior and left through the door, the musty smell of relics washed away by fresh air.

As the shopkeeper had no hands, the money started falling instantly...caught by some unseen force halfway down.

"Have fun...."
