I know this forum's basic thing (creative writing) is relatively detached from politics, but I was just curious how interested and/or involved some of you writers are in local/national/global policies and government. Feel free to give a little description of your beliefs, why you do or do not follow politics, and so forth. I know political discussions can get ugly, but I'm hoping this will be more of a way just to get to know each other's opinions and local political scenes, rather than for saying who is right and who is wrong.
To get things started; I'm very interested but not at all involved. I'm a 20 year old American who has never voted, nor have I registered. At first I took a very conspiratorial view of US politics, but even now that I feel my vote might matter, I'm pushed away by the partisanship and the exclusive, theatrical campaigning. Still, I think that government is necessary and that when things go wrong, citizens themselves are responsible to differing degrees. For that reason, I'm going to start aiming my college education at a position in public office (along with writing), perhaps at something like the UN. I'm a member of the globalist camp, I suppose. I have strong doubts that the world system of nation-states can possibly deal with future environmental, nuclear, and terrorist threats; I plan on studying continental unions like the EU, maybe with the hope of helping realize such a thing in North America.
