Sorahn

((Not sure if this is supposed to be OOC or IC so I went with IC cause it’s more fun that way ;) ))

Sorahn walked into a building that he could tell was brand new. The building itself screamed opulence. He looked down at the fine hardwood floor to see his white furry reflection staring back up at him, reflected in the coat of polish. Glancing back up he saw a counter ahead of him made of smoothed granite that gave an impressive official feeling.

Sorahn felt slightly uncomfortable in here. This was not his realm. He was a tribal warrior standing in a room made for businessmen and wealthy merchants. Even more discomforting was the establishment’s newness. He recalled the great days of the Red Hand of old. Ithermoss answered to no one, instead relying on his own power to see him through a war that was now legendary on Althanas: the war on the bazaar. A war in which Sorahn fought, earning him a place within their sacred ranks. A war which, ironically, was fought against the very type of establishment in which he now stood.

But times had changed; a fact which Sorahn lamented, but had to accept. The bureaucracy had taken over, and even Lord Sorahn and the Gol’Bron had to submit. There was an upside, however. The shiny building in which Sorahn now stood, known only as “The Guild Shop”, could provide him and his clan certain services. Services which he knew would prove to be vital in the coming days.

There was a dark cloud on the horizon, and Sorahn could see it coming. War was approaching, in all its bloody violence, and would soon bear down upon him and his loyal clan. He had to do everything that he could to prepare for it.

“Good afternoon, sir. How may I help you?” The man behind the granite counter greeted him politely. Sorahn expected the man to be a bit more apprehensive about his appearance. People on Althanas were usually rather shocked to see him, with his furry and tattooed visage. This man appeared more confident and polite; smiling brightly. Sorahn wondered if his position had already preceded him, even though he had only been leader for a short time.

“Yes. I have some requests.” Sorahn replied, cryptically. The man nodded, knowingly, and slid Sorahn a piece of parchment and a quill. Sorahn took it and began writing, listing several things he needed from The Guild Shop. He wrote as neatly as he could in the common language, which he was only just getting used to writing. He also made sure to note at the bottom that all would be paid for out of his personal account. His members had already contributed to the clan’s treasury, so Sorahn felt like it was his duty as leader to donate something of worth to the clan. Plus, he had plenty of gold.

He slid the parchment and quill back across the counter to the man and awaited a response.

((OOC works fine, but I like IC purchases even more. :p))

Taking the parchment studiously after the Ranoan had completed his entries, the officer looked over them and made note of what was needed.

"Alright, sir. Everything appears to be in order." The man replied with his trademark smile, scribbling down the number of items the Gol'Bron would be receiving in their war efforts.

"You will be receiving fifteen Ballista units and five Trebuchet teams." The man said as he wrote them down on the piece of paper. "As well as a contingent of one hundred cavalrymen trained with longswords. For your defense, we will send you a team of architects and engineers for your needs until the construction is complete. You will also receive five scores of archers to defend the wall. They will be sent along with the construction team."

Writing other details down on the paper, the man slid the completed contract to Sorahn whilst still keeping his smile on as if it was glued to his face.

"Here you go, sir. The price will be deducted from your personal account, as requested. I hope to see you again soon."

Sorahn took the parchment from the man, smiling. Feeling satisfied, he nodded to the man. “Everything seems satisfactory. Good day to you, sir.” With that he gave a slight bow to the man and turned to leave.

As he turned toward the door he saw a man burst through it, running toward him. Quickly Sorahn recognized him as one of his men. The man came to a stop in front of him, panting to catch his breath, and Sorahn gave him a confused look.

“My lord,” He said once he’d finally caught his breath. “I have urgent news.” Sorahn looked at him, a little surprised, and then instinctively both of them glanced to the man behind the counter, who was easily within earshot.

To solve this, the man reached for one of Sorahn’s large ears and pulled it toward him, causing Sorahn to tilt his head. The man hurriedly whispered his news into the ear then released it. His face looked as if he was afraid Sorahn would attack him right then and there.

But Sorahn merely frowned slightly. “You are sure?” He said quietly, his eyes narrowing. The man simply nodded. Sorahn stared intently off into space, his eyes narrowing as if there was something on the other side of the room that made him angry. Several moments passed as he thought, his tail swishing behind him as he did. The information could be false… but that’s a risk I cannot take.

Suddenly he regained his composure and the pleasant smile returned. He turned to the man behind the counter once again. “It appears that the situation has changed. I will require… a bit more.” He said vaguely as he took the quill again and began extending the list on the parchment.

He knew what he was now writing would take almost all of his gold to pay for, but he could see no better use for his money. This clan meant the world to him, and its protection was of utmost importance. He would do whatever it took to ensure its prosperity.

When he was finished he slid the parchment back to the man with a strange defiant look on his face. He was sure the extensive list would come as quite a surprise to the man behind the counter, but Sorahn wanted to send a clear message to all who wished to oppose him and his clan now and in the future. He meant business.

((*Whistles* Wow, that's some serious upgrades.))

The officer stared at the list before him, making unsure glances up at the Ranoan even as he read down the items the Guild Leader intended to purchase. These were some very heavy reinforcements to his army, one that was certainly going to play an important role. But what can one do when the customer had gold to pay?

"I see." The man replied after processing the list in his head, scribbling notes down onto a different piece of parchment. Detailing as much as possible, he finished the list with his signature before showing it to Sorahn.

"You will receive a team of well-trained scouts, consisting of humans and wood elves. For the archer cavalry team, we will send you 80 well-trained cavalrymen with recurved composite bows. They shall be arriving along with the team of archers and architects. As you have asked for magical defenses and offenses, we will send you three teams of mages to your cause - Two team consisting of twenty Thayne Druids with each team responsible for one of your elemental manipulations."

The officer paused here and looked over the list once more, wondering if he missed something the Ranoan had requested. Seeing there were a few more items left, he cleared his throat and proceeded down the list.

"As you have requested additional fortification, we will provide additional materials for constructing your watch towers and barricade spikes. The third team of Thayne Druids sent along with the others are in charge of providing you with the subterranean barriers, though they are incapable of much offensive power themselves. All this shall be delivered to you shortly. Is that fine?"

The officer glanced up at Sorahn once more, quietly waiting for a reply.

Sorahn
08-17-07, 12:11 AM
Sorahn forced a polite smile. The gears of thought were already whirling in his head, calculating and strategizing. All of these fortifications and weapons would each serve as parts in an intricate and well-oiled machine. At least, that’s what Sorahn hoped. In fact, the very act of purchasing all of these things together was also part of his plan. It could have been paranoia, but Sorahn felt like a group could come and attack them at any moment, and he couldn’t bear to have all that he worked for be destroyed by the ruthless and power-hungry.

He studied the list carefully, making mental notes and plans. Each item on the list would be a vital part of his overall defense, and thus each one needed to be examined.

Several moments passed as he thought, causing the messenger to shift rather nervously in the uncomfortable silence. But Sorahn would take as long as he needed to verify everything, because he knew there was no room for error.

The messenger looked relieved when Sorahn finally looked up to the man, the polite smile returning. “This will do quite well. Thank you for your time.” With that almost disturbingly polite phrase, he grabbed the quill and signed the paper. His signature was in Ranoan and consisted of strange symbols, but to him it held more value than a common translation.

“I will eagerly await their arrival. Construction must begin immediately.” He said as he slid the paper and quill back to the man. “Good day.”

He turned to leave with the messenger in his wake. Finally he could let the polite façade drop. His walk to the door was brisk; he was eager to get out of this place of bureaucracy and business. Warriors did not belong in any kind of office, and he felt extremely uncomfortable. However, modern times demanded such politics, and Sorahn was willing to set aside his own comfort for the good of his tribe.

The freedom and warmth of the outdoors was a welcome change from the cold office. The dirt road crunching beneath his bare feet felt so much more comfortable than marble.

Within minutes they had come to a small clearing where that very instant a great black dragon was landing. Sorahn didn’t even blink at the appearance of his loyal companion, since he knew Nyris’s location at all times. Instead he turned to his fellow clan member and offered him a ride back to the town.

The pitiful messenger stared at the dragon, mortified. He stammered something about preferring to walk while keeping his terrified eyes fixed on the dragon’s head. This suited Sorahn just fine. He wanted to be left to his thoughts anyway. He gracefully climbed onto Nyris’s back, and with a great beat of his wings, they left the man behind and were sent soaring into the sky.
