History

Born in a middle-class borough of New York City, Benjamin Elias Kaspar was the second son of an old, respected New York family. His father was a borough politician, and his mother was a rising star in the legal profession. From an early age, however, Benjamin felt more at home on the stage. Through middle and high school he acted in various drama productions through his school, and when he graduated he had to good fortune to gain admittance to Boston University's prestigious theatre programme.

He graduated with top honors, and immediately set his hand to acting. His prominence as the son of an important family helped him land parts. After a few bit roles, he was approached about directing small, off-Broadway productions. He gladly accepted, and soon gained fame through directing some excellent revivals and critically acclaimed new dramas. He continued to act and direct as he was asked, his roles getting better and his productions becoming more admired.

Then his dream came true...he was approached by a backer, who wanted him as a producer of a hit-the-road show that had just closed on Broadway. It needed a strong, competent manager to go on the national circuit, and this backer wanted Benjamin for the job. He gave him three days to think it over.

Benjamin went to bed that night, unsure of what to do. Would he be capable of the job? Could he handle the pressure? But he never found out.

He awoke the next morning on the cold hard ground, on a bench in a strange city. Next to him was a chest filled with plays, from famous to obscure, and a note, "Now that you're here, make something of it. Remember, all the world's a stage."

That was three years ago. The transition was difficult. To be ripped out of New York and placed in Althanas is, of course, shocking and hard to deal with, even without a strange note in a trunk. But he became used to living in a strange place...to seeing dwarves on the streets and hearing elves sing, to seeing magic performed on the streetcorners. But now, after working as a clerk in the Bazaar, he's finally saved enough money to try something. With the help of a wealthy financier in Radasanth, he's opened his own theater. And he plans to put it to use.

(I know the history is a bit filler. I'd rather be able to set off right off the bat with this guy doing what I plan to use him for. He's not really intended to be a character for development, that's why I don't want to have to roleplay out all the transition period.)

Possessions and Property

1 - Room in Radasanth. Rented from a family, he sleeps in the guest bedroom and partakes of their hospitality.

1 - Trunk full of plays. Contains the complete works of William Shakespeare, Oedipus Tyrannus, Our Town, an assortment of famous Broadway musicals, Waiting for Godot, some works by Henrik Ibsen and Federico Lorca, the complete works of Arthur Miller, among others.

1 - Small Theatre. Although not the finest in Radasanth, it is currently suitable for small plays with a limited cast, with gallery seating for about 100 and standing room for around 300 more. It has a very cozy atmosphere, and is outfitted with suitable amenities. The property it sits upon is large, however, and can support expansion if necessary.
