Ladies' Man
08-24-07, 09:50 AM
Name: Gabriel Talisman
Age: 26
Race: Human
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Silver
Height: 6.1
Weight: 186
Occupation: Son of a noble
Personality: Aggressive to the point of annoying, Gabriel is so certain that he is the unrealized desire of every woman that he only uses tact and restraint as tools to attract them. The best word to describe Gabriel is cocky. He has a penchant for making people angry, especially women, and is always too proud to back down from a fight. He is quiet only when wary, and though he trusts other people very little, he doesn’t like for them to know that he’s watching them out of the corner of his eye. For the most part, he is charming and friendly, always willing to get into a long talk, especially if the person he’s talking to is a woman. He thinks himself to be quite independent, but the truth is that he is one of the most easily-manipulated person alive, but only when it’s a woman doing the manipulation.
Appearance: On the tall side and athletically built, Gabriel is slim but muscular. His dark hair is casually tousled and falls over his forehead and the back of his neck, usually in need of a trim. He smiles often and leers even more, confident in his good looks and irresistibility. He is clean-shaven, for the most part, and has a few barely-noticeable scars on his face and body. He also has a silver earring in his left ear and a tattoo of a dagger on his right shoulder which is rarely seen by men.
Clothing: When dressed, it is not easy to see how fit he really is, because he wears loose-fitting dark clothes of high quality silk and dyed linen that cover him from flipped-collared neck to leather-booted feet. He wears black gloves that extend from just below his elbows to the first knuckle of each finger, but these are only fully visible when he’s taken off the coat. Beneath his Salvarian winter-proof coat he wears short-sleeved or sleeveless shirts of varying color, except for on fancy occasion, when he’ll wear long-sleeved silk. He has a silver-studded black belt and carries a black backpack. His only visible weapons are two short knives that he wears in black sheaths on either side of his waist.
History: Born the wealthy and pampered son of a land-owning noble in Salvar, Gabriel grew up with six sisters and has always been comfortable around women. Even before he was old enough to be attracted to them, he’s always had female friends and generally prefers to company of women to men. He had his first crush at ten, and since that first tumultuous affair he has never not had a crush, girlfriend, or lusted-for prey.
At the age of fourteen, he rescued a tiny sprite from the cruel hands of school bullies who had captured the wee creature in a nearby forest, half dead from the cold of an unexpectedly freezing winter. He fought the boys for the sprite and wrapped her in his coat until she had recovered from her hypothermia. Eternally grateful, the green-haired Helsa promised the boy that she would grant him whatever wish he most desired. After about ten seconds of thoughtful consideration, Gabriel asked to be magically protected from STDs for the rest of his life. The wish was granted.
Armed with an impermeable defense against the only kind of death Gabriel feared, the boy was so caught up in his blossoming social life that he had no interest whatsoever in the things that so concerned his father, namely weapons and war. The man kept an entire room of their mansion devoted to his impressive weapon collection, and Gabriel only went into the room when giving a new girlfriend a tour of the house. His father insisted on the boy having some kind of martial skill, so Gabriel resignedly trained in knife-fighting, since twirling daggers impressed girls.
Though Gabriel was immune to the call of weaponry, the value of his father’s weapons didn’t escape the notice of everyone. When Gabriel was 24 and beginning to think about possibly looking into the prospect of half-heartedly pursuing a job, a band of thieves broke into the mansion and raided the weapons room. The family guards fought and died bravely, and Gabriel’s father himself was cut down with brutal ease by the terrible bandits. To his eternal shame, the unarmed and unprepared Gabriel was knocked out and tied up with his sisters, and only found out about his father's death the next morning when the servants found the family trussed up like a sheaf of wheat.
The loss of the weapons wasn’t a big deal to Gabriel, but his father had owned ten magical daggers that were called “the Virtues,” (and that Gabriel had teasingly referred to as “the Girls”) that had been passed down through the males of the family for generations. Each dagger has a specific asset attributed to it and could perform some magical modification on the cuttee according to its name (Truth, Vision, Grace, Humility, Restraint, Serenity, Patience, Valor, Wisdom, and Beauty). Feeling guilty for being unable to save his father and indignant at the theft of his birthright, Gabriel left home with the promise of retrieving the daggers and as of yet has only been able to find two, Truth and Grace, but is seeking the other eight.
Skills:
Close Combat: He grew up wrestling and fighting other boys to impress girls and is rather adept at fisticuffs. He is very quick with his hands and has good reflexes. He is best when fighting with knives or daggers, which are his preferred means of combat, and his speed and agility enable him to win duels against weapons of much greater size and range.
Knife-throwing:Gabriel not only wields knives, but he also throws them with fairly good speed and accuracy.
First-aid: He is fairly good at stopping wounds from bleeding and preventing infections and other first-aid things.
Luck’s Favor: Protected by a fairy’s enchantment, not only was Gabriel’s chance of receiving an STD reduced to almost zero (0.8%), but his general good fortune is above normal. Though far from absolute in its deliverance, Gabriel often finds himself talking to a woman who will provide him with just what he needs, and he often makes decisions with negligent casualness because more often than not his luck will make the best of a situation. He is mostly depending on his luck to help him locate the other eight Girls, since he never found out who it was that stole them. There are times when his luck fails him, which is about half the time at level 0.
Equipment:
Four daggers:
Two unenchanted, 4" bladed, iron knives carried visibly on belt.
Truth- (silver, 5" blade) If cut by this blade, a person cannot tell a lie.
Grace- (iron, 7"' blade) If cut by this blade, a person’s sense of balance and hand-eye coordination is inhibited or diminished.
(All effects of the daggers wear off once the wound inflicted by the blade stops bleeding and the severity of the effects are to be decided by the afflicted PC. The effects of the other daggers will be declared and mod-approved as they are attained.)
Concealed shoulder sheath (Grace)
Concealed ankle sheath (Truth)
Two black sheaths for belted knives.
Small backpack with basic survival gear (bedroll, fire-lighting tools, dried food, water flask, needle & thread, spare clothes, razor, soap, whetstone, twenty yards of black rope)
First-aid kit (bandages, scissors, cotton, alcohol, salt, infection-preventing herbs)
His father's gold signet ring with family crest (a dagger) that's too big for any of his fingers
Compass
A book (Trades for variety, used mostly to impress the ladies by showing off his intelligence and education.)
Other Information: Gabriel has slight hemophilia, so his major concern in fighting is preventing hits or abrasions that break the skin, because it takes a longer time for him to stop bleeding than it does a normal person. He also has ailurophobia, an irrational and often crippling fear of cats.
