Well, I'm a new member, and I'm also very new to role-playing. I've written a few works of fiction before (Rarely do I finish), but I've never actually participated in an online role-playing site. I'm currently having a small bit of writer's block, but when that clears I'll write up a character and start questing and battling! I've read basically all the guides I've found, but is there anything else I should know? Any tips?

Thanks in advance,
Caliginosus

Other than to have fun with it and stay away from the baked goods... none that I can think of.

Hello and hope you enjoy yourself here!

Remember not to get involved in more threads than you can handle. Otherwise, you'll create some very angry questing partners!

Welcome though, I hope you get over that writers block soon and stick around for a while.

Welcome Cal!

Well you should know that when you make a character, we slather you in butter and cocaine. If you survive what logically ensues, you're in!

Oh, and the best remedy to writer's block is writing! Think of it as constipation. You just really have to-

So yeah, enjoy your stay here! <3

Haha, that analogy is rather effective. o.o Well I started writing the character up, and although the history is less than well written really, I think he should work decently. Well, I know this isn't the sbuforum to ask questions in, but it seems silly to make an entirely new thread, so I hope I can get away with asking a few.

So you're allowed to have a single character in more than one thread at any one time? Even if he's on different continents, I.E. in one thread the character is finding treasure on Alerar, and the other he's fighting some one in the Citadel?

Also, you're allowed to have as many characters as you want, you just need to have it limited to one character per account/screen name, right?

Thanks for any answers. :O

Also, Ataraxis, you don't happen to play a game called Ashen Empires do you? (One of the bosses on there is named Atraxis)

Yep, you can do that, considering that threads don't happen simultaneously unless you want them to. So in one thread, your character could be fighting a gigantic demon Goat, and in another you're writing in, he could be lazing in the Althanian equivalent of the Caribbeans, three months later. It's a concept you'll come to love, called Fluid Time.

And yes, one character per account, no account limit. You'll have to learn to keep up with your characters if you make a lot, though.

And no, I don't actually! I think I've heard of the game before, but I didn't take the name from that boss. I just chose that name for its meaning: 'a state of tranquility, or peace of mind'.

you can have as many characters as you want. Some members had over 10 or 20^^

And you can have multiple threads in different regions too. Actually it's nice since not everyone will RP in corone.

oh yeah^^

hihi and have fun.

Hello meng! Wassamattaconyou???

Welcome to Althanas!

now where is Witchblade?

Alright. I think I'll mainly stick with one character for now, and possibly make another one later, but with the exp system and stuff it seems better to not have too many characters.

Interesting, Atraxis and Ataraxis are different by only a single letter, yet Atraxis is a really evil boss. He's not at all peaceful. o.o Anyways...

Thanks again for the help, perhaps I'll find myself role-playing with some of you in the future.

Uh... Not too sure about the baked goods around here from what I've seen. Think you guys might have a bad recipe. >.>

Anyways...

How strict is the fantasy setting around here? From what I've seen it's just that as long as it doesn't give you extra advantages you can be from and have anything from different sorts of time periods. Is this right? Or can you actually go as far as to have guns and bullet proof vests? o.o

Also, if you have two accounts and two characters, can you have them be in the same thread? It seems like it'd give you an easy way to get exp, as if it's a 1 vs 1 battle you can make one account use a much better writing style, so I'd guess you can't.

1. I would suggest eating nothing given to you.

2. The setting is fairly loose. I myself have a revolver, but acquiring firearms is fairly difficult. You're not going to get one right away, or for a short while.

3. Yes, but it may get boring for you if you do it all the time. I've done it before, myself.

Welcome, guy-whose-name-I'm-almost-guaranteed-to-mispell.

Biggest piece of advice is to do what you're doing - get involved. If you get involved, people notice you and want to write with you.

But yeah, have fun and enjoy yourself!

Welcome, guy-whose-name-I'm-almost-guaranteed-to-mispell.

I forget the 'i' and spell it Calignosus a LOT. >.> Maybe I shouldn't have taken this name... o.o

Don't feed people or be fed by people... Got it.

*Wonders if talking cats myao-ing at you is normal here.*

Hi :) About those credits... So you have 200 gold, and 300 gold that expires in a month. A total of 500... And so you make a thread in the bazaar and describe the kind of item you want/where you went to get it and a mod gives you a price? What if it's too expensive? Can you haggle? If it's 20000 gold and you have 500, and currently aren't feeling amazingly persuasive do you just say no thanks and have it closed?

I like questions. Srsly.

Hello and thanks to all. :D

Biting and giving poisoned baked goods are supposed to be endearing right? Well then. *Holds out arm and closes eyes, hoping for the best.*

You make a thread and describe the item in detail, but that's really only necessary if you're asking for a custom weapon or something that's odd and uncommon (like a maul; not a lot of people know what that is). If you can not afford it by a tiny amount of gold, like fifty or under, no one will complain aboput trying to haggle the price done. If you simply can't afford your item, you can just walk out and have it closed, or you can change your mind to something different, or simply lower the metal to lower the value (ie. going from dehlar down to plynt, or steel).

Don't let anyone bite you here. Most of them probably have Hepatitis. Or are just slavering to taste innocence or some other batshit concept they'll giggle about.

I liked your profile. We'll do something sometime.

Umm... Not really. Only meself is allowed to. Nya~ :p

Dan here summed it up pretty well. Also, the better you RP, the better chances of getting good quality items and better prices! Some items are best bought at certain places, like metals and firearms in Alerar (although Firearms consist mainly of Flintlocks and Blunderbuss - Revolvers are ahelluva expensive and usually custom-made), magical enchantments of higher class and power in Raiaera, clothes in Corone and Hides in Salvar. You can also bring up a Specialty Store and ask for special items there, or shuffle through some of the finished threads in the Transaction Archives to see which store looks interesting!
