((Please note that the Crimson Crow mythril sabre from "Stormbreaker" has been listed as a spoil under Elexis's entry below the history, and the 2x Iron Hooks are listed as a link in my sig. Thanks.))

Name: Bane Flaresto

Age: Over three hundred human years. Exact age unknown.

Race: Bane Flaresto is a Basillisk, the codename for a human that has undergone the process of becoming augmented with a single elemental property. Specifically, Bane has been fused with the element of Fire, and is known as the Basillisk of Fire amongst other Basillisks and government officials on MannionIsland, his place of birth and upbringing.

Class: Bane is aligned with hand to hand fighting and magic.

Alignment: Good, although the Basilisk’s temperament changes if he is not wearing his vital restraint.

Description: Bane Flaresto is a white, middle twenties young male standing at roughly five foot eleven inches tall, with long spiked brown hair with black tips that hang over in bangs across his face. Bane is seen in the standard dress of what is believed to be Basillisk clothing, i.e. cream cargo pants, a black denim sleeveless jacket complete with white trimming and more interestingly a black and white two tone leather "sweatband" that is clamped firmly onto the forehead of the subject with strong steel clamps. This headband is actually a restraining device used to keep the malfunctions of the Basillisk persona at bay.

Marks of interest are particularly a tattoo on his left should in the shape of a Chimera, and his gold irises.

Weapon: Baneblade Alpha

Bane Flaresto carries an odd weapon, known only as the Baneblade. This strange sword is a metre in length, ten inches across and curved instead of pointed at the tip. Despite this apparent bluntness the sword is still an effective close combat weapon, as the edges of the sword are not designed to cut, but rather to cause damage by impact alone. As far as we know, the sword is crafted from a heat sensitive metal comparable to steel.

Another fact of note is that this sword allows energy at high temperatures to conduct through it and gather at the oval tip. Bane may use this weapon to channel his magic.

Magic: Viper Streak (Level 2)

Bane uses a trademark technique called the Viper Streak to dispatch opponents. It involves using the Baneblade to channel magical power from the hands of the Basillisk to the tip of the weapon, which is then used as a projectile launcher and discharges a wave of flame at a target. This attack is effective at both close and ranged distances, and can now slightly home in on targets.

Skill: Basillisk Elemental Resistance (Level 2)

Bane is partially immune to the effects of fire, being the Basillisk of Fire. All Basillisks are built to resist the element they possess as part of their design. He is now able to handle and create medium fires without damage, but can still be affected by large scale explosions or flames.

Personality: Bane Flaresto is an enigmatic character. His human nature seems to be a passionate, humorous (if not slightly wild), and caring force that somewhat contradicts what his Basillisk instincts were created to be. Out in the world, Bane treats people with a mild respect, helping those in need as they cross his path. Mostly these human feelings stem from his experiences with meeting Levia in his hometown of Sol Deus during the Great Hunt. However, in combat, Bane’s Basillisk side somewhat becomes a mirror image of what he considers to be his true self. He fights tenaciously for what he believes in.

Background:

Bane Flaresto is a former captain of the fleet of a state known as Sol Deus, a colony of humans living on MannionIsland south of Corone. The people of Sol Deus are mostly peace loving but fiercely private, and have poured a vast amount of wealth into their navy, which is their primary source of defence.

Bane Flaresto, once a simple dockyard engineer with a regular pay check and a family, was selected to partake in a government experiment known as the "Basillisk Project". This involved the Sol Deus scientists, who had been researching magical fusion for years, attempting to bind a regular human being with a single elemental property, strengthening both their magical and their spiritual abilities. However, a flaw in the process meant that most of the alpha subjects had their sanity shattered during the experiments, and were confined to the MannionIsland caverns in the mountains. Most of the alpha's mutated into mere beasts during this time, and as more and more reported attacks on the Sol Deus port town were reported, the government became more and more desperate to cover their tracks.

Bane was a Basillisk, an “original”, a living weapon fused with an elemental property, created by his government to hunt down and destroy the first prototype Basillisks who were technically obsolete due to constant malfunction. The alpha’s, the first of the Basillisks, had gone berserk and attacked and killed many of the citizens of Sol Deus. The government under their leader, Kefziel Ouroboros, created a new and improved set of Basillisks to resolve this issue, and ordered they be destroyed as soon as their mission was accomplished.

Bane, without knowledge of his planned fate, of course did as he was commanded. With no restraint, he murdered hundreds of alpha class Basillisks without as much as a single care. But one day, chasing the last alpha, he discovered something horrifying. Something sickening and it made him think twice about everything he stood for. Levia, an old flame of the human Bane, had been kidnapped and against her will transformed into an alpha class Basillisk. Not only an alpha class, but a working one, a fully functioning bio weapon.

He could not kill her. He would not kill her, but, as he peered into her sad eyes as his sword hand and his iron resolve wavered, he knew she could never be the same again. Bane had killed so many people like her, he realized, and each one had a life, a love and probably a family as well. They may have been flawed but they, the ones with control who had been innocent, deserved everything he had too, and so, filled with hatred and disgust for the people he had served without question all this time, Bane spared her life and decided to flee the island, stealing the Stormbreaker to sail to Corone. The state would be made to pay dearly for what they had done.

Other Basillisks were in production at this time, and Kefziel was presented with a problem. If Bane left, their mistakes would become public knowledge, and there would be an uprising. There was also the possibility that Bane would fall into the hands of those that could carbon copy the Basillisk project. This would be a major problem. And so, with the Basillisks at his disposal, he sent them to hunt and destroy Bane and his crew...

The Basillisks

Alpha Class:

Levia Miller, Basillisk of Tide:

Although it would seem that the true Levia Miller perished in the original transition from human to Basillisk, her lost human personality appears to be recovering. Her current whereabouts and status are unknown. Her specialized element is water.

Beta Class:

Elexis Berlios, Basillisk of Storm:

The second Beta Basillisk developed under Kefziel. Elexis Berlios is a powerful influence in Sol Deus due to both her respect in command and her ability to control the temperaments of storms, guiding her fleet to safety or turning the storm on enemy ships to wreak havoc upon their fleets. She is known to have a fondness for Bane, one that is not returned by the Basillisk of Fire.

Death:

Elexis was destroyed by Bane aboard the Stormbreaker, suffering a broken neck by his hand during an encounter with the SSD Vorstock.

Spoils:

The Crimson Crow, Elexis’s mythril sabre, was taken by Bane as a memento of her death.

Goliath, Basillisk of Earth:

Goliath, the Basillisk of Earth, is a wielder of the element of Earth magic. Unlike other Basillisks of this class, he is a mindless brute that lost his ability to reason during the transition, and fights without regard for even his own life.

Gabriel Zambuska, Basillisk of Blizzard:

Perhaps one of the most refined of the class, Gabriel is the master of the ice element. His love for the arts is well known, and often draws comparisons to theatre in battle, often using melodrama and wit to add flare to his style. However, he is considered a dangerous enemy to face as his mastery of ice magic is almost unrivalled.

Yoshimitsu, Basillisk of Light:

A former swordsman from the Sol Deus royal guard, Yoshimitsu utilizes illusions to confuse and confound his opponents, before mercilessly destroying them with his long katana, Samemune. He is not without compassion though, having saved Syne Flaresto, Bane’s brother, from Goliath’s rage on one occasion. He always fights alongside Syne and will not enter battle without him.

Syne Flaresto, Basillisk of Dark:

The Basillisk of Dark, Bane’s older brother, is the master of dark arts, but not by choice. After Bane left Sol Deus, Syne was captured by Kefziel Ouroboros and raped of his power by a new type of Basillisk named Pandemonium, one which tore Syne’s soul in two and filled the void with pure darkness. Although fragments of his original self remained, Syne traversed the path of evil until his meeting with Yoshimitsu, who saved him from the wrath of Goliath. It is unknown whether or not Syne ever recovered his soul.
