Name: Vania Ambriot

Age: 16.

Race: Human.

Hair Color: A tawny, almost bronze hue.

Eye Color: Deep saffron.

Height: 5'11".

Weight: 130.

Occupation: Performer, Scholar

Personality: Vania is a deeply extroverted person, and always plastered to his captivating physiognomy is a fierce smile, or pearly grin. He can at times be foolish and stubborn, for his ideals and morals are quite unique. After his studies at the Royal Palace, he came upon a theory of order and chaos. From then on, he preferred the chaotic, yet constructive side of the theorem. He is often denounced as a bad influence or merely a lowly scholar, and his recurrent, offensive bluntness and air-headedness causes agitation to those who can scarcely put up with him.

Though, conversely he can become extremely slow and bored at times; just like a child, he loses his cunning energies and becomes a ball of languor. In this state he is very difficult and stubborn, but somewhat more controllable and friendly. In other words, conversation becomes possible in this state, in opposition to his waking, active one.

Appearance: To begin, Vania is profoundly enthralling with eyes of dark yellow and a wild thrush of golden, messy hair. His skin is a dark tint of bronze and his raiment is artfully crafted. And with a wild smile composed of two rows of opaline teeth, he sports unusually large, tapered canines. His lithe and somewhat frail-seeming body is pinned amongst the cumbersome garments; the last remaining clothes he had from his kingdom and from the traveling performers.

His footwear are simple leather boots which are cut off at the midway up his shin and his leg garments, composed of thick, breathable material stained deep onyx, flow over the well-fitting boots. He also wears a burgundy-dyed, long-sleeve shirt with a stiff, upright collar. The topmost and visible layer is a thick shawl of molten ostrich feathers. The plumage of the cascading cape is dyed a deep crimson, all hewn together by a rich, golden fabric. Around his neck lies a necklace of amber, with the intricate insignia of the Mellia Performing Group, which he had custom made by a portly jeweler in some obscure town he had visited once in his travels.

It is assumed that Vania has mauve-amethyst colored eagle plumes suffused throughout his unkempt hair due to his often-impulsive nature, but unbeknownst to all judges is that it was once a common tradition for royalty in the kingdom from which he originated. Some also consider his other-worldly attractiveness to be the result of some kind of odd magic practiced upon him back at the kingdom; the royals of the kingdom are rumored to all be strangely charming.

History: Vania was born in an upscale kingdom, where he would be next in line for the throne and completely foreign to the mainland of Althanas. In the beginning he was favored amongst all other children, due to his aristocratic upbringing and his charismatic beauty. In his youth he was terribly heartless and judged things only on their beauty and cast away anything ugly from his life.

For an extended period of time this cruelty was allowed, and his mother and father left upbringing to the lazy nobles and the overpaid Royal Guard. Though, one day his mother was horribly scarred in an accident and a revelation came to him that everything that he loved didn’t require outer beauty. From that time on he disposed of his vanity and prejudice, and began his studies on the major magical power the Kingdom's army had used since the beginning of time. The Royal Library was composed of hundreds of tombs relating to the subject of the elements that compose the universe, and this is where he attained his passion.

At the age of fourteen the Kingdom was devastated by the fatal blast of a neighboring nation who plotted their downfall. Using modern technologies infused with magic they carved a deep hole in to the heart of kingdom, leaving the surrounding town to fall in to a giant crater in a landslide; very few survived the initial attack. Then, from the heavens came a monolithic beam, said to have come from a legendary cannon, which further decimated the remains. All that was left were charred ruins. Later, an anonymous dwarf who prided himself in the art of digging discovered a mysterious underground lair, which in the past was an ancient civilization of great sorcerers and the crystal rune mines beneath that. These enchanters used ornate runes to amplify their energies and filter it, to create powerful and unique magic, molded by the nature of the runes themselves.

After the blast the vast multitude of crystalline rune stones were scattered across the continent. The collision caused the rune mines to explode, forcing a flurry of orbs and lights through the night sky. The devastation and brilliance was like a diamond aurora borealis and was seen miles away. The true owners of the rune orbs and various fragments would be the royal family, but the sole survivor was Vania. Vania, imprisoned by the crumbling stone and previous foundations of the once mystically beautiful palace, starved for a week and a half. After the blast he was left to rot amongst the runes until an excavator whom was apart of the rescue team discovered him, having found his body huddled in a corner. His cheeks were pinched with hunger, and he couldn’t even muster the strength to speak.

He awoke in the opposing nation, being nursed to health in the royal hospital. It seemed as though this rival City-State didn’t want any of this to happen, but their true reasons for the destruction of his hometown were highly guarded secrets, unknown even to the great Generals of the army themselves. All that was known were rumors that Vania’s kingdom was forging “weapons that could be used to harm the City-State” from the rune mines that lie deep beneath the lair of the ancient civilization.

Vania’s body was also altered to an extent, marked with few embedded splinters of the powerful Rune mines and their ornate magic. Upon his forehead lies the embedded orb called “The Rune of Resurrection” and on his chest is embedded “The Rune of Mist”. The rune orbs took hold to him and they seemed to be the only thing that kept him alive though the duration of being condemned.

After extensive treatment and observation of the elder magic scholars of the rival City-State, he was interrogated. The City-State dictator was deeply intrigued by the vast power of the Rune mines; it was unknown how exactly Vania’s kingdom acquired their great firepower and legendary weaponry, but now it was all clear. The controversy forced Vania in to a multitude of court cases in which he was repeatedly harassed. The system of law and justice in the City-State was twisted horribly and Vania was sentenced to execution.

After many debilitating tests performed on him by the mad scholars, he could no longer stand for the mistreatment. Still wounded, he only stayed for the latter part of his intensive physical treatment for so long. Completely aware of his impeding demise, he figured that he should escape at any cost, even if he was still wounded. Clambering from the hospital bed, he attempted to scale the two-story structure. He only got so far before plummeting from a loose ledge. The impact of the ground injured him further, though he continued on, despite the excruciating pain that webbed through his entirety.

In the nighttime, while feebly hobbling through the back alleys of the City-State, he came upon a charitable group of exotic foreigners who helped him escape the towering, stonewalls of the city. He stayed with the traveling performers for a long time, making friends with the graceful acrobats and other skilled artists, living with them for almost two years. He learned many things from the traveling band of entertainers and saw many places that he never dreamed existed.

While in his travels he cultivated his personality and his skill with the runes, adapting to his newfound family. The dancers and acrobats taught them all they could, transforming him in to a coordinated and talented young performing artist. Vania, now a well-rounded individual at his young age, decided to take a journey of his own and resume the study of magic practiced in other nations. His departure with his circus family was not so much a tragic one, but a joyous occasion, for the memory of their caring and authentic love would be eternally engraved in to his mind and it would never fade. Their love far overpowered the neglect of his long dead family; he decided that it was fate that he would meet his true parents and brethren in a traveling circus.

From then on, he quested to various continents in search of a greater understanding of magic and the various forms it could manifest. Being so philosophic, he dropped any sort of title or reference to royalty except for his pompous and gaudy clothing, a combination of peasant clothes, circus costumes, and an elegant royal cape, which was a constant reminder of the past evil times of treachery he endured and the path of carefree happiness, diversity and knowledge he could pursue in the present.

Skills:

Acrobatics – Vania is capable of many acrobatic feats such as complicated midair turns and flips, along with other performance-based aerial maneuvers. He has never had the chance to use them in any sort of combat, so the skill is rather dull when it comes to that situation.

Rune of Mist –
*Mist Form – The ability to phase-shift in to a cloud of vapor and spread out across the atmosphere. He can only hold this form for a maximum of twenty seconds, but it also allows him to steal through nearby crevices or any other small openings when he wishes to escape a building or confinement. He came to practice and slightly hone this skill in performing “escape” tricks. [Can only be used twice a day.]

Rune of Resurrection –
*Yell – The ability to charge his rune and hurl a minor missile of Holy light to a specified target; the resulting flash of light illuminates the area momentarily and can be somewhat painful to any creature, but the resulting blow is much more severe to a creature of darkness or the undead. When a single missile of light strikes a normal creature, it could be compared to that of a direct hand-to-hand blow, though to undead it sears their flesh, leaving a temporary, bleach-white mark. This skill came naturally to him and drains him physically. [Can only be used twice a day.]

Equipment:
*Steel Gauntlets – These gauntlets he normally wears in battle are thorny, with plenty of sharp points allocated strategically where each knuckle would be present on the armor, while the phalanges are sharpened to a point, tapered like claws. These are his only means of melee attack and defense.

*Mandolin – A stringed instrument given to him and fashioned by his circus companions. Over time he has become quite the player, and like a troubadour, in his travels he sustains himself by performing melodic tunes.

*Satchel – A satchel of iridescent scales, which can expand to hold all sorts of items that would normally tear or pierce through a normal bag.

*Water Container – A water bladder that can expand exponentially, capable of attaining a day’s worth of water.

*Necklace – A necklace of amber and infused of gold. Locked to it is the insignia of his performing group and the purple rune fragment.

*Rune Fragment – A mysterious, violet fragment of a rune; he hopes to find a purpose for this item, for it is only a fragment and he doesn’t have the knowledge of attaching runes to other humans. Though, through his research he feels destined to find some kind of use for it.

*Feather Quill, Tiny Ink Bottle and Scrolls - To record his findings and magical discoveries.
