In her time, Chizu had come to adore the intricate details required for working with both gems and mechanics. The fields were involving, delicate, and required infinite concentration and patience. She looked at both with a careful view. But, for her at least, working on the pieces of clocks or shaving minutes pieces off a rare gem was little more consuming than battle. A steady, practiced hand was required for both, patience above brute force. It was a steady and graceful state of mind she had come to know and assume for either.

But just like fighting, tools were needed for gem working and engineering. However, leaving her lands in the east so hastily left her with neither of them. Too bad too, they had been masterwork sets. As she entered the quiet, off the main street shop, her hands fell to her coinpurse. So little money, but she would gladly give it all for just a semblance of what she once had.

“Hey there,” she said in her best common tongue. “I once held a perfect set of tools, both for gem crafting and engineering. I wonder at what you have to purchase. I carry a mere 500 gold pieces however… perhaps that is enough for a set of each, commonly made? Or, could I possibly get those a little better, something above average, with a few more than the common tools.”

Elena looked up at the woman, blinking at the odd request. Recovering from her surprise after a moment she smiled politely in greeting.

"Good afternoon, I'm Elena. We have tool kits for engineering and gem crafting for 50 gold each. Those will degrade quickly though. You can purchase a better grade of tools for 200 a kit. Specialized tools are 50 gold pieces each."

"Fifty gold pieces," she mentally huffed. "No doubt the tools for one are the same as the other... people outside the trade would have difficulty telling them apart."

She eyed the leather bound set before her. "Two hundred gold pieces is quite a high price for a basic set of tools. Maybe I should be in the tool 'collecting' business, putting them together as sets and selling those instead of the finished products."

Chizu laid a delicate, steady hand on both, stroking the worn leather with the tips of her fingers. She carefully opened each, undoing the small button like catch on the sides. The tools were a small, all of them, both sets containing a matching hammer. Small screws were only slightly different than the chisels in the other. "These are a good grade of steel? Is there any better quality of metal for the gem set? Or is steel going to be durable enough?"

"The steel of those two kits is the same grade our swords are made out of." Elena bit back the quip on the tip of her tongue.

"The next grade of metal would be Damascus or Delyn. In my opinion Delyn is far too heavy as it's nearly twice the weight of steel. Damascus on the other hand might be a good option, is lighter than steel and very sturdy. I don't have any tool kits made out of those at the moment, I could order one if that what you want. The cost of Damascus or Delyn is 400 a kit."

"Of course," her curt words passed her thin lips with a sigh. "Gathering small tools to make 'sets' is look more and more promising."

Chizu pushed the pieces around, pulling them out of the pouches and examining them. They were alright, nothing impressive, and hardly what she would be used to working with. Hopefully it would not cost so much to replace them. Over priced shop, maybe she would have to try a different one next time.

"I'll take the two sets, I suppose..." She closed each carefully and latched them shut. "You said four hundred together? Can't get it for a hundred fifty a piece?"

Elena stared at the woman on the other side of the counter and considered ordering her out of her shop. Mentally shaking her head she decided that it wasn't worth it to lower herself to such petty measures or words.

"I'll have to specially order tool sets made in Damascus or Delyn, the cost on those are not negotiable. The steel sets I could sell both for 150 each or just one set for 200."

Her words seemed to be getting more irritable, as if the merchant woman was becoming aggravated by the terse words of the young woman. "I will take the two sets of steel tools then," she decided, trying not to annoy the woman more and loose what little discount she was getting on it. "Three hundred gold pieces?"

The woman removed her pouch and dropped an extra fifty gold on the counter, a tip for the merchant's trouble and patience. Though Chizu was a greedy woman, she knew what trouble customers could be. "And that's a small tip for your trouble, thank you."

Elena swept the gold coins into a pouch, long hours of practice lending a hand to counting coins at a glance. The unexpected tip after the aggravation the woman had cause was a surprised. Arching a brow Elena nodded her head politely in thanks to the woman and put the fifty in with the others.
