The small child entered into the shop with wide eyed amazement. He had been sent in there by a nice man to pick up and pay for a special thing within and the small boy had agreed almost immediately. It was easy, and the small child had lived in Radenseth, Corone long enough to know that easy money should always be taken. Especially when it was as simply as picking something up. Normally the kid would have run away with his little down payment, but the man who gave him the task seemed nice enough. He even looked elvish a little too.

The shop in question seemed to memorize the small child. He had spent his time in and out of many shops. Candy places, where the very air itself seemed to give kids a charge, books stores full of musty old tomes and armories all were frequent places to visit. Mainly due to the sheer amount of entertainment that could be found in them. Playing "trick the merchant" was a great pastime for kids his age.

He walked slowly, holding onto the bag in front of his stomach like a pregnant woman. This shop was not in the usual rounds for kids such as himself. The wares all seemed to glitter, or in one case absorb the light. There were several that seemed almost useless, like hand crossbows and made of metal. A few others seemed divinely inspired. The poor boy gulped, going to the counter he was barely tall enough for and putting his hand down. He became all too aware of how much gold was between his arms, as well as its weight.

"Umm, miss, mister, sir?" His voice was barely more then a squeak and a red blush of shame crossed his face. "I want to buy something here. The ang, the hang, the an-gull-ok-ee en russ."

Kale looked over the counter at the child. For a long moment he stared at the boy, a puzzled expression on his face. He wondered what a child would be doing in Elena's shop, let alone requesting a item that sounded exotic.

"Hold on a moment there squeaker." Kale was pleased to find that he wasn't stuttering. Grinning, he strutted off to the back room to fetch Elena. Elena glanced up from the innovatory list she was going over, a single brow rose at the prideful stride.

"What's up with the walk Kale? You seem pleased with yourself." The other brow rose at Kale's smile.

"We have a customer and I didn't stutter." Elena smiled and shook her head as Kale plopped down into the seat across from him.

"Okay, why are you not helping them? Did you leave a customer alone in the shop without supervision?" Sighing, Elena got up, the smiled on Kale's face disappeared.

"Elena?' Kale waited until she looked at him. 'It's a kid out there, but he's definitely a courier, the item he's looking for is something called the 'an-gull-ok-ee en russ'. Ever heard of it?" Elena nodded quietly and headed for the front counter. She paused by her two Moontae guardians.

"If one or the other of you would take Kale out for a treat I'd be grateful. He's done a good job lately and deserves a break.' Elena handed Illianiel a pouch of gold when she held her hand out. 'Thank you, Kale is still a boy by our races standards, I'm not sure if he's ready for carnal acts so unless he makes a move please leave him untouched. Other than that, take him to get a sweet or something and let him wander where ever he wants." Elena paused a few steps later and turned back to Illianiel.

"Don't forget to use illusions. A naked winged woman walking around will draw a lot of unwanted attention to you and Kale." Elena didn't wait for the nod she knew that was coming from Illianiel, she hurried towards the counter and the boy still waiting out there.

Elena smiled down at the nervous child and knelt down by him.

"Hey there. What was it you wanted to buy?" Elena asked to make sure Kale had heard right.

The small boy blushed again, knowing full well that he had butchered the request that he had meant to give. The fact that the pretty lady looking down at him was scaring him did not help at all. He stammered for a moment, then riffled through the gold bag he carried, handing a small, rolled up piece of parchment to the woman.

Sort of figured the kid would need to use this. I am looking for a weapon called the "anguloce en russe." Elvish tongue, if you do not recognize the language. I did not expect the boy to be able to remember how to pronounce it.

In the common tongue, I believe it is simply a dragon horn blade. The item in question that I want in little larger then a long dagger. The horn itself is merely from a young dragon, as well. The whole weapon is made of the same material, that much I know of. Beyond that, as well as its edge, is all I know. Within the bag is 500 gold pieces, which I believe is a satisfactory amount to pay for the item.

I have two envelopes depending on your response as well.

With love

~Miles

Elena finished reading the letter addressed to her and turned the letter over as if expecting to find something else. With a quiet sigh she laid the letter on the counter and looked down that the diminutive courier.

"I have heard of the Anguloce en russe and I do currently have it in stock. I'm afraid that the blade your, employer is asking for is more than the 500 gold pieces." Standing up, Elena picked up the child and placed him on the counter. Reaching blindly over the counter she snagged a large piece of brittle that she kept around for Kale and offered it to the child.

The small kid reached out a hand, taking the small piece of brittle greedily before biting into it. He thanked her in his squeaky voice around a mouthful of the brittle. He didn't really understand the meaning of the letter meant for the nice lady. Nor did he complain about his new seat upon the counter. He ruffled for a second in his pouch of gold given to him by the strange man, pulling out a piece of parchment entirely different then the first. It smelled differently for one, almost of lavender. The pink paper was a dead giveaway from the white of the first. The small child opened it, and the writing was drastically different from the smart, blocky letters of "Miles'" first request. Even the I's were dotted with small hearts. A small piece of cardboard fluttered out from the parchment.

I'm sorry to see that you do not wish to sell the weapon in question for 500 gold. Or something along those lines anyway. One of the main disadvantages as to having a courier deal with business transactions. I myself have researched this weapon somewhat extensively and I know that it is part of a greater set. Beyond that, I also know of its construction. The blade is for a personal reason mind you. Any old long dagger accomplishes what that particular piece can do without being a hair over 500 gold pieces.

Nevertheless, I have procured an item of some value. For a service rendered, you might say. I would enjoy professional courtesy, much more so then you moontae normal have with clothing. The card would be something of a way to contact me, if you would so wish to discuss some more personal measures. OF course, I won't accept it without the Anguloce en russe of course. Call it a little extra in order to ensure a fair trade.

With love and hope,
~Miles

As the letter was unfolded, a small card of paper fell out. The boy hopped off of the table, picking it up and giving it to the shop keeper. Elena's name was writing in calligraphy at the bottom, under the picture of a strange man dressed as a prince. The picture was beautiful, yet disconcerting at the same time. The top right and bottom left parts of the cards had a small "J" symbol upon it. For those who played card games, it was the Jack of Hearts. For those familiar with the card's true intent, is was a contract for a kill; one that was fairly expensive as well.

Elena chuckled at the misspelling of her name and the mistake of calling her Avery's husband. Perhaps there is some truth to that statement Elena thought her eyes gleaming with mirth. She shook her head slightly. Service rendered, how very odd. I wonder just who this Miles is.

"What have we here?" Elena asked the boy as she took the card form the boy. As she studied it all traces of mirth disappeared. Her thoughts raced to the potential value offered through the card and the possible consequences if she denied the buyer the blade.

"I'll accept the offer. Just a moment." Elena handed the child another pieces of brittle with a smile. As she hurried for the back room Elena was glad she had sent Kale out with Illaniel and Serraphiel. She knew the two could protect the boy and if anything truly were to happen they would take him by air to the Moontae city.

Avery. The thought of her husband made Elena pause in mid stride for a moment. She refrained from touching her stomach and hoped that the person sending the letters did not know of her growing child. Hell, I just recently found out myself. I seriously doubt anyone could know. Elena grabbed the cloth covered blade from the shelf it rested on. Refusing to hurry she slowly walked back up to the front counter.

"Here we are."

The small courier boy waited for the nice lady as she got whatever it was his boss wanted. Both of them seemed to be really nice people, and the man even drew her a pretty picture. He made a little promise in his heart, unaware it would be forgotten in the exciting life of a child, that he would be as nice as these two people. He bit into the brittle. He pushed the bag of gold towards the woman as she approached, beaming up at her and raising his hands to receive his boss's item. He couldn't imagine what needed to transacted between the two, but knew it must be important.

"Here you go, squeaker. Be careful and don't run with it." Elena handed the child the blade.

"After you give the blade to the buyer, you can return here if you want. I can train you to be a shop helper for now. The perks is you'll be living with me and Kale, my other shop helper, and earning gold for you to spend." Elena rumpled up the boy's hair and despite herself smiled honestly down at the boy.

The boy did not have to wait long, and he took the blade from the woman with the same pride as a job well done. It was not heavy at all, yet there was still enough of a weight to the strange long dagger that to tell it wasn't metal. He was begining to walk out of the door when he heard the woman's offer, turning around quickly. He stammered his thanks, nodding vigorously to the woman as he turned again and ran out the door with the anguluce en russe, carrying the blae like he would a swaddled child.

Elena shook her head as she watched the child leave her shop. After the door shut she set about collecting everything she thought the child would need. Several sets of clothing, a sturdy pair of shoes and a coat. After laying everything in a neat pile on one of the back room, she pulled out a large metal basin.

Despite the odd occurrence of the day and the card that lay safely hidden away Elena found herself moderately happy. I've collected another child. Perhaps I should just open an orphanage. Elena filled the basin with hot water and hoped the child would return before it got cold.
